Trump’s America

We're buy all of our big needs now.
Already planning with the wife for 25 percent increases. Will go out far less and minimize what we consume. Honestly, it's something we needed to do anyway. We had become too complacent in materialism. This is a good time to reject American consumerist culture.

I reject your dumb ass.

I'm making my kids watch that so they'll think twice about buying shit off Shein and other shit cheap labor companies. I think second hand stores are going to do really well the next 4 years as people both have to sell their shit to afford stuff and people only buy shit from these places because it will be cheaper than going to retailers. Fuck, if Trump kills Shein then I'll actually put that down as a huge accomplishment of his that I would be in favor of.

The major, broad tariffs on Mexico and Canada in the face of his own treaty is so phenomenally stupid and harmful to the American economy that I have to think the Trump team, rest of the GOP, donors, etc. get him to never implement it. The supposed justification is another migrant caravan bit, they probably just make up another story and say it dissolved in fear of gigachad Trump border control or something.

And the prices will never come back down even after the tariffs are removed someday.

Exactly, at least short of a recession or a depression, which might not be far off. Just like the idiots who voted for Trump 'because inflation' which he helped kick off in the first place. Inflation is back to normal, and those prices aren't going back to pre-covid/Putin levels.

Spending a lot less time on this shit these days as I’ve made up my mind to finally retire, but I am 50/50 on whether he really will do it.  The chaos it creates is 100 percent on brand for him but given his history I could see him doing nothing of the sort as well and claiming fentanyl imports dropped due to his threats.

Either way, you think framing a house or pouring a slab is expensive now, good fucking luck next year.  I’ve made all the major purchases I need for the next few years with the sole exception of a used vehicle and that market keeps improving.

It’s going to suck for consumers next year though.

Probably better than a 50% chance of that path.  His history of making outrageous threats if you don't do X....then you don't actually do X, but move some furniture around pointlessly and say "look, I did something," and he declares "the greatest victory in American history, at levels never seen before" is rather extensive.

His entire persona and history is performative, not actually substantive.  When he DOES veer into the substantive....he does shit like bankrupting a fucking casino.

What is the United States if not a giant casino?

Yeah...that's about to change for the worse.  You might want to get moving on that purchase sooner rather than later.

Good thing Americans are fat, lazy and don't eat veggies. How will RFK handle this?

The U.S. imports approximately 60% of its fresh fruit and 40% of its fresh vegetables.

And among the countries of origin for those products, Mexico is the biggest contributor — meaning U.S. consumers could see higher prices for a range of grocery and produce items if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his latest threat to impose a 25% tariff on all items brought in across the southern border.

According to data from the University of California, Davis, Mexico is the leading foreign supplier of tomatoes, avocados, raspberries, bell peppers and strawberries for the U.S.

Overall, Mexico made up 64% of U.S. vegetable imports and 46% percent of U.S. fruit and nut imports in 2021, according to the data from UC Davis. Between 2000 and 2021, the value of Mexico’s horticultural exports into the U.S. quadrupled, the university estimates.
