This is a classic Trump misdirection. He doesn’t want the media talking about his debt ceiling loss this week or keep talking about President Elon. Instead he makes a wild claim and the media jumps at it 24/7.

the worse the real story is for him, the crazier the comment he makes.

I’m not that person. I’ve been increasingly anti-social lately. I do not really hang out with these people here in town.

Now, my college friends are 100% Trump.  I can’t talk politics with them.

I have an ability to hang with any group. I will not let someone’s politics, unless they are way too extreme, affect the way I feel about them.

What?  The guys that sang "there will never be a nigger SAE" are 100% Trump?   You don't say?

Don’t worry Panama. If this idiot’s history is any indication he’ll be onto his next distraction point within 48 hours. You and Greenland are safe, for now.

He is worth at the very least a million dollars

You keep saying this as if it has any relevance. Like a million dollars would render a person evil, or could magically provide life experience that wearing a tie clip with any politician on it is fucking retarded.

I wouldn’t give up Puerto Rico to get it, but he’s not wrong about Greenland

Or, I mean....we could simply be a good NATO partner and have all the access to Greenland we want or need that way.

TLDR; Why buy when you can rent it for cheaper?

I'm not sure we can rent it cheaper going forward. For what it's worth Greenlanders seem to broadly prefer independence with EU membership, but I'm not sure how realistic or sustinable that is for anybody.

Worth pointing out that Greenland is in North America, and we've got a pretty strong claim.

At the risk of my sarcasm meter being broken, what claim of ownership over Greenland does the United States have?

Well, we have to have a period of deep rural pain to finally eliminate those family owned farms that have been treasonously not selling their property to ConAgra.  President Trump will fix that.

Take greenland now, sell it to mineral companies to strip it bare over the next couple of decades. Then they sell it to Conagra to become the new Midwest when climate change turns the lower Midwest into a barren wasteland.

Who said anything about anyone being "evil"? Soft as baby shit. Spoiled, stupid, privileged white boys who can run their mouths but crumble at any amount of return fire.

Actions and words have consequences. Grown men who aren't pussies understand that.

He is a representative of the university. He is making conscious choices to endorse hate against students and alumni. Fuck him.

This post ranges from irrelevant to the discussion I was having to fantastical bullshit.

A Bigly one. Duh!

if global warming gets worse, we’re going to need access to ice.  Lots of ice.  Trump is playing 5D chess while libtards focus on carbon emissions.

Trump has now made public statements suggesting the US annex/invade/buy Mexico, Panama, Canada, and Greenland. Am I missing any? What's next? Bahamas would be cool.

Cuba had better watch their six. As I'm sure you're aware, we've got a history of invading them, and the Confederates wanted to annex that island. So, that seems like a logical next threat.

Publicly promoting a politician who advocates literally deporting his fellow classmates who were born in America isn't fantastical bullshit. That's literally what Quinn is actively choosing to do over and over.

Is he doing it because he's a virulent racist who hates them? Is he doing it because he's a fucking moron who doesn't really think carefully or deeply about life and politics? I don't know and don't care.

Absolutely fantasy bullshit. I suspect it’s because he’s a 22 yo moron as I said in my first post. I certainly don’t know. And I don’t care. I just think it’s noteworthy a big contingent were bitching about this during the game, here. And then using non-sequitirs like his NIL deal.

Which part?

It's "noteworthy" that maybe 10 people on an Internet message board took a few minutes out of watching commercials to comment on one of their university's representatives choosing to make a completely unnecessary political statement that's a massive middle finger to many/most of his classmates and teammates? What's "noteworthy" about it? We're supposed to be locked in watching the Taco Bell nuggets chick for the 20th time this CFB season and it contravenes expectations that we're posting instead?

"I'm just saying..."
"I just think it's interesting that..."
"I'm just surprised that..."

All sentence starters from people who either haven't thought through their own thinking or are unable to contend with it because it's fucking stupid. Say what you actually mean, bud. Say it with your chest.

Do you just stare intently at the screen for 4 hours when the game starts? What's the right way to watch a fucking football game on TV?

Denmark has never really held Greenland in a meaningful way and never wanted to. A little history: Vikings maintained a small settlement in Southern Greenland going back to the 12th century or so, and accepted Norwegian overlordship in the 13th. Norway and Denmark were combined in personal union under the Danish Oldenburg dynasty over the 16th-17th century. When they were forcibly split in 1814 by the British after the Napoleonic Wars,  Denmark wound up with the settlement.
After the civil war United States sent explorers to the rest of Greenland and claimed it, which prompted the Danish to claim it too. We then recognized the Danish claim as part of the purchase of the British West Indies in 1917, and successfully prevented the British from buying it for Canada or getting a right of first refusal to prevent us from getting it. So in 1921 Denmark was stuck and actually had to declare sovereignty over the whole island. Sort of.

fast forward to WWI- Denmark is occupied by the Germans, who then make moved in preparation to invade and occupy Greenland, so we put the coast guard in place and begin to set up bases, and there we have been ever since.

Greenland is essential to US strategic defense. Holding it is consistent with the Monroe doctrine, and because the current Danish claim is a post 1823 European colony we tolerate it as an exception.

I’m glossing over a lot and some details may be wrong, but that’s the gist.

I mean it fits with our history of hegemonic terror in the Americas pre, during, and post the prime Monroe doctrine enforcement era with maybe a bit of coolness in the Good Neighbor Era depending on how cynical you are.

Gen. Narcisco Lopez - with support from Southern planters and local newspapers including the Daily Delta - left from New Orleans on a filibustering expedition to free Cuba in 1850.  That site is now the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

These plaques sit in front of the courthouse.
