Americans used to act like American democracy was so strong and resilient, but in the end it was extremely weak and fragile. Only took a demagogue and a corrupt political party to completely demolish it.

Likely this.  The idea that a sitting Congresswoman was kidnapped and raped and/or trafficked and we never heard about it is completely insane.

There's a non-zero chance that she watched the first episode of Season 2 of Taylor Sheridan's Lioness, and she treats everything produced by that border-obsessed MAGA choad as a documentary. So she just inserted herself in and changed a few details.

I haven't watched Lioness yet, but I've watched Yellowstone, 1886, 1923, Tulsa King, Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River, and Those Who Wish me Dead. I literally only think I'm missing Bass Reeves and Lioness at this point. And you're saying you think Taylor Sheridan is a border obsessed MAGA choad?

Well, duh.

Lioness Season One was pretty good and not cartel obsessed at all but Season Two Episode One was right back to the wheelhouse.

Most of those movies and shows I listed have nothing to do with the border. At all. So while maybe part of one show is border obsessed...most of his catalog has nothing to do with the border. And there's a lot of progressive ideas in there, as much of his themes is about people being fucked over by corporate greed. I googled around Sheridan's politics, and there doesn't seem to be any comments or definitive answer, so if I've missed something, someone please enlighten me.

If Mitch had do-overs, he’d vote to impeach Trump’s ass next time….but, there won’t be a next time.   Thanks Mitch….idiot.

Something like what is going on has been the Mitch GOP agenda for decades. They persuaded the fools that unions, lawyers, their Congressperson, and the press were evil and working against them. Those are the only things that give the little guy a chance.

The People disarmed. The Powerful unchecked.

You can't look at their political "leadership" and propaganda arms and think otherwise.

Trump, IMO, just pulled them off script. He made the power play naked and voters (increasingly sadly) rallied round the hate he spews. Trump shouldered aside Mitch and the other establishment villains like that foreign leader in Europe.

spacer.png

Trump, as I've tiresomely written often, seized the reins of the hate engine which he can now turn on any GOP not lock-stepping along with him.

Perhaps we can at least be amused about what Mitch and boys in charge thought about suddenly being toadies. And over in the House, they have to take Margerie, Matt, and Lauren seriuosly. What do you think about that, Mitch?

I love the OG sponsored bits he throws into every Landman episode. Obviously designed to go viral amongst the chuds who love tough talk and owning dumb libs

Thus, too, is illegal and outside the executive scope. Shocking, I know.

Fuck Donald Trump.

This is somewhat surprising. Sure, it’s designed to help lower income groups, but a lot of rich white dudes make a lot of money on the legal/financial side.

God bless Anderson Cooper for this.

99% of the time politicians go on those shows and lie, they get little or no pushback from the host because the network knows they'll never get that person (or any spokesperson for the party they represent) on again.  As a result, outright lies and disingenuous arguments get treated the same as good-faith engagement.

For whatever reason, Cooper felt unrestrained here to give the appropriate response... especially the last 10 seconds or so.

https://gizmodo.com/i-regret-to-inform-you-that-a-19-year-old-doge-stooge-named-big-balls-is-now-advising-the-state-department-2000562035

Quote

Few developments better typify the unique insanity of the current political moment than the ascent of “Big Balls,” a 19-year-old software engineer who briefly worked at Elon Musk’s brain startup Neuralink, got recruited to the billionaire’s government-deconstructionist effort DOGE and, now, in a twist so ridiculous it seems like it was stolen straight out of South Park, has apparently been hired as a “senior advisor” to the U.S. State Department.

In reality, “Big Balls” is Edward Coristine, a high-achieving tech wunderkind, and the large-testicle-alluding-honorific is merely his online username. The Washington Post reports that Coristine, who is also a staffer at DOGE, was recently assigned to the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Technology. It’s unclear what Coristine, who only recently graduated from high school, will be doing at America’s diplomatic hub, but it understandably seems to have rattled senior officials at the agency. The Post notes that, for some reason, a government directory also lists Coristine as working for USAID—the international aid agency that Musk has all but shut down in the span of a week.

Wired initially reported that Coristine had previously worked for Path Network, a cybersecurity firm that was known to hire reformed cybercriminals. Bloomberg subsequently reported that Coristine was actually fired from that firm after he leaked “internal information to the [company’s] competitors.” “I can confirm that Edward Coristine’s brief contract was terminated after the conclusion of an internal investigation into the leaking of proprietary company information that coincided with his tenure,” a Path Network spokesperson told the outlet last week. Coristine, meanwhile, has said that he did “nothing contractually wrong” while at the company.

Subsequently, cybersecurity blogger Brian Krebs made the claim that Coristine was also formerly a member of The Com, a loose online affiliation of Telegram and Discord users who have frequently been known to engage in a wide variety of criminal activity. Krebs doesn’t claim that Coristine was involved in any criminal activity, merely that he was a member of the group.

Now, for whatever reason Balls/Coristine has been given a horrifying amount of access to the data and internal systems of the federal government. In addition to Coristine, another DOGE member—23-year-old former SpaceX intern Luke Farritor—has also reportedly been given some position at the State Department. Like Coristine, he is also listed as working for the Bureau of Diplomatic Technology. Gizmodo reached out to the State Department for more information on what Big Balls and Farritor are doing for the government and will update this story if it responds.

Harsh on my part. He's either a MAGA choad or he's smart enough to realize the profitability of throwing out red meat to that crowd. I'll give him due credit and assume the latter.

In Lioness, it's pretty comical. Two seasons of dudes kitted out to the nines pausing mid-gunfight to give exposition on what "the administration" allows to happen (or conceals) on the border.

Even Kevin Costner's masturbatory "I am the wall against which progress dies" speech in Yellowstone. It's pretty damn heavy-handed and clearly meant for a certain audience.

Doesn't bother me enough to stop watching some of his stuff--and, to his credit, everything he touches seems to have a floor of turn your brain off action and entertainment--just eye-roll inducing.

I dunno man, I've watched most of his stuff and just don't get the same reaction. Sure, lots of it appeals to those people, but those people see what they want to see, really. There are a fucking ton of anti-corporate messaging in most of his western shows, and plenty of progressive concepts as well. Shit the ending of yellowstone had howels of protest from MAGATS becuase the ending, well, not to spoil it but it didn't end in a way red hatted twits fucking wanted.

Maybe I'm not as cynical as I thought, but most of his stuff (again, haven't seen Lioness) is pretty effectively delivered in my mind in the famework of "What would this character do/think/say" without necessarily taking a stance one way or the other as a show. Mayor of Kingstown is getting...pretty damn anti-law enforcement in many ways.

You're not wrong. MAGA loves them some yellowstone. But MAGA is stupid, and without nuance.

Lulz. Okay, YouTube videos do use the question mark in their URL. At the end of that URL there should be “?v=“ followed by a string of characters that need to be included. Then if there’s an ampersand (&) after that, delete it and everything else that follows.
