Forgive my ignorance, Troph, but can you direct me to an organization that I can join and be publicly on the right side of this persecution? My anonymous posts don't seem to be having much impact. I don't want to be stuck here on the sidelines.

Seriously, my friend.

Crazy busy this weekend, let me put some thought into it I’ll DM you, and if you can let me know where you live (city) that might help. DM me if you need to. I can also think about national orgs.

Anecdotal, but last week a soldier in my son’s class made some horrible obnoxious racist remarks, and when told he would be reprimanded laughed and exclaimed “no disrespect, sir, but a month ago I would have. Now that would be illegal.”

He’s right. And that’s a painful pill.

I work for a climate tech company.   Some of our recent outreach has been met with “drill baby drill”

There are other, less formal, ways of instilling discipline and camaraderie among the troops.

Paritioners are in a huff over the Pope's letter regarding the misuse of theology by Vance, supposed Catholic concert, and the Administration's rhetoric against immigrants. I have yet to see anyone actually refute the theological and ethical framework the Pope lays out. Rather, they argue using the same fallacy as Vance and the same failed rhetoric of the Trump administration.

It all seemingly boils down to, "Would you label Jesus Christ(an immigrant) an "illegal" or not and would you immediately expel him back to persecution and suffering (good Samaritan)?" Brains break. Am I simplifying too much?

Adult converts to Catholicism are the best because they generally cite apostolic succession and authority as a prime reason for conversion and then their brains break when the Pope tells them they’re wrong.

My family’s brains are broken on this even when I have cited that Eucharist is the body of Christ and when we receive it that is the physical act of being in communion with the global Body of Christ. They don’t care because they watch too much Fox News to contemplate scripture or Catechism

I have not removed my hat, faced the flag, or put my hand on my heart for the anthem in close to a decade.

also Canada’s anthem blows ours out of the water.

Absofuckinglutely -- it's chill-inducing watching it sung before Canadian hockey games. The one in Edmonton is fantastic and last night's before the Canada-US game was phenomenal.

La Marseillaise is fucking metal...

Against us the bloody flag of tyranny is raised; the bloody flag is raised.

Do you hear, in the countryside, the roar of those ferocious soldiers?

They’re coming right into your arms to cut the throats of your sons, your comrades!

To arms, citizens!

Form your battalions

Let’s march, let’s march

That their impure blood

Should water our fields!

fuck yeah! lol

Our anthem is at its best when played by a marching band with no singing.

The one thing every European agrees that the US does better than every other country is our national parks. Why are we attacking park rangers who make maybe 25k? What's the point. How do all these layoffs increase efficiency because that's not what that word means.

Most liberals like national parks. It’s as simple as that.

Most republicans do too, but they’ll change their mind when told to do so.

My BIL, who might actually be the most interesting man in the world, worked a summer seasonal job as a park ranger in Yellowstone four years ago. This is a man who has a PhD, is a master wooden boat builder, built his home by himself, has fished salmon in Alaska professionally, served in the Peace Corps and has been a Fulbright Scholar in India amongst other accomplishments. He lists his summer in Yellowstone working the entrance gate and interacting with visitors as one of his favorite experiences. Our national parks are a treasure that should not be trifled with.

Yep. Friends daughter did it this past summer. I thought it was curious as I had never heard of anyone having the inclination. Pretty the same sentiment from her, best experience.ofnher life. She could have easily flown the world on the parents dime after graduation, but that was her choice and she regretted none of it. Entered a PhD program this Fall as well.

My wife was trying really hard to get on one of their conservation teams. Not  anymore. Told her last night she had a better chance getting a gig with a non-profit in africa counting angry hippos. Basically all of them.

Spoiler

1

To Anacreon in Heav'n, where he sat in full Glee,

A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,

That he their Inspirer and Patron would be;

When this answer arriv'd from the Jolly Old Grecian

"Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,

"no longer be mute,

"I'll lend you my Name and inspire you to boot,

"And, besides I'll instruct you, like me, to intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

2

The news through Olympus immediately flew;

When Old Thunder pretended to give himself Airs.

"If these Mortals are suffer'd their Scheme to persue,

"The Devil a Goddess will stay above Stairs.

"Hark! already they cry,

"In transports of Joy,

"Away to the Sons of Anacreon we'll fly,[28]

"And there, with good Fellows, we'll learn to intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

3

"The Yellow-Hair'd God and his nine fusty Maids,

"From Helicon's banks will incontinent flee,[29]

"Idalia will boast but of tenantless Shades,

"And the bi-forked Hill a mere Desart will be

"My Thunder no fear on't,

"Shall soon do it's Errand,

"And dam'me! I'll swinge the Ringleaders, I warrant.

"I'll trim the young Dogs, for thus daring to twine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

4

Apollo rose up, and said, "Pry'thee ne'er quarrel,

"Good King of the Gods, with my Vot'ries below:

"Your Thunder is useless"—then shewing his Laurel,

Cry'd "Sic evitabile fulmen,[30] you know!

"Then over each head

"My Laurels I'll spread;

"So my Sons from your Crackers no Mischief shall dread,

"Whilst snug in their Club-Room, they jovially twine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

5

Next Momus got up with his risible Phiz,

And swore with Apollo he'd chearfully join—

"The full Tide of Harmony still shall be his,

"But the Song, and the Catch, and the Laugh shall be mine.

"Then, Jove, be not jealous

"Of these honest fellows."

Cry'd Jove, "We relent, since the Truth you now tell us;

"And swear by Old Styx, that they long shall intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

6

Ye Sons of Anacreon, then join Hand in Hand;

Preserve Unanimity, Friendship, and Love!

'Tis your's to support what's so happily plann'd;

You've the sanction of Gods, and the Fiat of Jove.

While thus we agree,

Our Toast let it be.

May our Club flourish happy, united, and free!

And long may the Sons of Anacreon intwine

The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

Good thing you didn’t go to San Diego then.
