Honestly a tragedy that so much of America doesn’t have a passport and can’t go see that virtually all of Europe even with migrants is safer, cleaner, healthier than virtually anywhere in the United States. The idiots will believe this shit.

The problem is much deeper than Trump or MAGA. Those are just smoke screens to keep people distracted.

The real problem is the takeover of the country by a small set of billionaires who each rule kingdoms that they feel should be free of government and public interference.

They (people like Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin and Leon - there are many other mostly Tech Bros) want to rule their fiefdoms as they choose. Just like all kings do. No king wants to take orders from anyone. Human nature hasn’t changed, those in power want to keep power. Those with power, do not wish to share it.

Tech Bro Kings aren’t concerned about equality or fairness or anything much to do with the public as long as what is due to them comes to them. The price of a dozen eggs means nothing when you can buy the entire egg industry. When you can easily buy senators, vice presidents and presidents then democracy is just a fun ruse.

Slashing the govt (with Elon out front) is just a way to make the public believe that the Tech Bro Kings have the answers. Planes are crashing? Starlink will fix it. Mail isn’t being delivered? Amazon has the answer. National Parks can’t be booked? AirBnB has a system. Want an education? Google has all the info you need. Each thing that is given away just strengthens the kingdoms.

Unfortunately there is no going back. The battles are lost. Democracy is dead. The only hope is one day the kingdoms will come in conflict with each other (which always happens) and they will destroy themselves and something better will rise.

I don't necessarily agree with 100% of this post, but you sure are on the right track IMO

It's going to be amazing to watch all the people who built up Reagan as a superhero these past few decades, suddenly switch on a dime to "What, Russia's the bad guys? Why, whatever do you mean? The real bad guys are Canada and the UK."

I assume this is our plan to get in the prisoner exchange game. All Germany needs to do is meet our demands for 5,000 gallons of Hefeweizen, 2,500 pounds each of schnitzel, pork shank, and sauerbraten.

Easy on the realtor talk.  I know some great people who are realtors.  What could Ricardo have done to make her react this way?  You're in a damn Mexican restaurant.  If this is a hoax by Ricardo (doesn't look like it) then shame on him

My former law partner is doing her normal escape Carnival season and went to Isla Mujeres.    She has been going there several times a year for 35 years.

She said that this is the first time that she has felt self-conscious being an American there - as this is the first time she has felt an undercurrent of animosity toward her.   She said the interactions were never rude or overtly negative - but instead of her normal experience ofmultiple wait staff at different locations being super friendly (like she has always experienced), this time they seemed to show more forced professionally polite demeanor- and very neutral in their communications.

Maybe a first time visitor would not notice that, but she texted me that she was deeply saddened and depressed by the whole experience.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Trump wants to be a dictator, fawns over dictators, and chose someone as his VP who has openly said in the past that America needs a dictator. Hold on, let me see if I can piece this all together....

Headed back there in May, and this is exactly what I've feared would be the case. Beautiful people and a vibrant culture, and we've always been welcomed so nicely. That's probably over. Thanks Trump, you POS.

It sounds like you’re saying that some laws are bullshit and should be selectively enforced. Namely those that you don’t agree with and Violators should be absolved of their crimes. Why not rob a bank and give $ to a charity then? If some good comes out of it, then it’s not really a bad thing. Sounds like a solid defense.

While we all just sit around and wait for the collapse and/or to become a Russian territory... I was wondering if there is any opposition to this. Chris Murphy seems to be doing his part. That's about it.

Maybe they're waiting on Trump to announce the merger between the US and Russia, where Russia controls large parts of the US. That seems like something that might come down the pike soon.

No, what I'm saying is that the US should be doing just the opposite of what is happening now and instead of villifying those who want to come to America in search of a better life -- you know, like your ancestors did -- stop making it an increasingly high bar to clear.  But you knew that.

I'm not in the "democracy is over" camp...yet.  I continue to say that this is the cartoon version of a fascist/oligarchical takeover of the U.S.  Yes, some actual, real shit is happening and there are some people who are actually being affected by the implementation of Trump's policies, but it's not over yet.  I fail to see how the President can shutter a federal agency (USAID) that has been funded by Congress, for example. That issue has yet to be fully taken up by the courts.  My tipping point will be either when SCOTUS openly forsakes the Constitution or if the President and executive branch refuse to abide by a court order. I foresee a lot of this shit being overturned and rolled back; most of it, actually. I also foresee inflation going up, jobs reports going more negative and the economy entering recession. The midterms are going to be a fucking bloodbath for the GOP and the Trumpanzee will be emasculated with two years to go.

And they are welcome here. We have a process for it and everything. Hell, I married one of them.

I have zero problem with anyone wanting to make a better life for themself, assuming that America offers such, which apparently we don’t anymore. Are there countries that encourage immigrating to them illegally that I’m not aware of? I’m not sure why this is such a controversial issue. Black people used to not be able to vote and neither could women. There are countless examples of what we used to do way back when that would be ridiculous to be continuing the same practice today. This includes letting people in unchecked because we are a land founded by immigrants.

Counterpoint: there will be a story about a trans kid playing high school basketball in Who Gives a Fuck, upstate New York, and every Trump voter will fall in line.  Because destroying the economy, eating soup made from leaves, being subjugated to Russia, having the government empowered to kick down your door for the crime of disloyalty to the regime, are worth trading so we can make sure that Pat in Who Gives a Fuck never takes so much as a free throw.

You really haven't been paying attention.

WASHINGTON — Mexicans dislike President Donald Trump. A lot.

According to a new poll, just 5 percent of Mexicans trust Trump’s judgment in international affairs. That’s the American leader’s lowest rating among citizens of more than three dozen nations polled earlier this year.

The survey released Thursday by the Pew Research Center said 93 percent of Mexicans had “no confidence in the U.S. president to do the right thing regarding world affairs.”

Lol at 1,000 respondents. Where they were from would make a huge difference as well. Mexico isn’t a monolith. My family down there (NL) says the views on trump mostly range from positive to agnostic.
