Yes,  My grandfather took most of the photos you see of the Atlantic Charter meeting between Churchill and FDR in August of 1941.  If Trump was president in 1941 he would have brought Charles Lindbergh as his advisor and said "Winston, you don't have any cards, you're gambling with World War II, I just want this war to end.  Give me Canada and Surrender to Hitler."

Can someone photoshop Trump in this photo for me so I can send it to my Step-Dad.

Counterpoint: there will be a story about a trans kid playing high school basketball in Who Gives a Fuck, upstate New York, and every Trump voter will fall in line.  Because destroying the economy, eating soup made from leaves, being subjugated to Russia, having the government empowered to kick down your door for the crime of disloyalty to the regime, are worth trading so we can make sure that Pat in Who Gives a Fuck never takes so much as a free throw.

You really haven't been paying attention.

Counter-counterpoint - people ultimately care way more about money than fringe social issues.  As soon as Joe MAGAT starts paying noticeably higher prices, can't get certain products and his 401(k) balance drops by 25% I think you'll see they care way less about the trans basketball player.

I've been paying attention.  I see what I see and I don't see what I don't see.  I look out the window and I don't see America as a smoldering husk of its former self.  Not right now, anyway.

What you mean is that the building hasn't burned down YET.

But it's already over.  The fire has been set.  It has damaged numerous critical support systems already.  You think that because you don't see massive flames pouring out of the upper windows, it's not burning down.  Nope.  Fire destroys from the foundation, and it does so faster than you think.

It's already done.  The smoldering rubble will come, it takes time for large, redundant structures to completely collapse.  But remember the rule about how things fail.  They fail two ways: 1) very slowly, then 2) all at once.

Whatever Dems do, you know they will make the wrong choice.

Scoop: Some Democrats are plotting to disrupt Trump's speech to Congress

Quote

Democratic lawmakers are discussing a litany of options to protest at President Trump's speech to Congress on Tuesday, including through outright disruption, a half dozen House Democrats told Axios.

Why it matters: Some of these tactics go beyond their leaders' recommendation that members bring guests hurt by Trump and DOGE. This sets up a potential clash between party traditionalists and its more combative anti-Trump wing.

"The part that we all agree on is that this is not business as usual and we would like to find a way — productively — to express our outrage," one House Democrat told Axios.

There is widespread disagreement among Democrats, both inside and outside of Congress, over what would be the most appropriate and effective form of demonstration.

What we're hearing: Some members have told colleagues they may walk out of the chamber when Trump says specific lines they find objectionable, lawmakers told Axios.

Criticism of transgender kids was brought up as a line in the sand that could trigger members to storm out, according to a House Democrat.

A wide array of props — including noisemakers — has also been floated:

Signs with anti-Trump or anti-DOGE messages — just as Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) held up a sign during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech last year that said "war criminal."

Eggs or empty egg cartons to highlight how inflation is driving up the price of eggs.

Pocket constitutions to make the case that Trump has been violating the Constitution by shutting down congressionally authorized agencies.

Hand clappers, red cards and various other props have also been discussed, multiple sources said.

The intrigue: In closed-door meetings and on the House floor Monday night, lawmakers were specifically discouraged from using props, two House Democrats told Axios.

And Democrats largely share one thing in common.

These tactics are also a source of considerable internal debate among House Democratic rank-and-file — in large part based on what they've heard back in their districts.

"There are definitely a lot of constituents that really want Democrats to disrupt and there are ... constituents who feel like that just plays into his hands," one House Democrat told Axios.

Zoom out: Disruptions during joint session speeches used to provoke outrage, but have become increasingly common in recent years.

Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-S.C.) outburst at former President Obama — ''you lie," he shouted — was a shocking event in 2009.

Former President Biden was persistently heckled by Republicans during multiple State of the Union addresses.

Then there was the aforementioned disruption of Netanyahu's speech by Tlaib.

Zoom in: Some groups of Democrats plan to mount more traditional protests through the use of color coordination in their wardrobe choices.

Pink: The Democratic Women's Caucus wants all their members to wear pink in a unified display of defiance to a president many of them despise.

Black: Female members of the Congressional Black Caucus have separately discussed donning black to more accurately capture the party's somber mood.

Blue and yellow: Ukraine Caucus co-chair Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) will distribute ties and scarves with the colors of Ukraine's flag to signal support for President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Others plan to sit stone-faced and refuse to clap during the entire speech, another time-honored tactic for opposition party members to silently protest the president.

What they're saying: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) wrote in a letter to House Democrats that he and other leaders plan to attend the speech to "make clear to the nation that there is a strong opposition party ready, willing and able to serve as a check and balance."

Jeffries also said leadership understands if some members skip the speech — as several have said they plan to do — but urged a "strong, determined and dignified Democratic presence in the chamber."

House Democratic caucus chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) told Axios leadership is telling members to "keep the focus on the health and safety and the economic wellbeing of our constituents."

The bottom line: "Whether we are wearing pink, or black, or yellow and blue, we are all conveying our displeasure with this administration," said. Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-V.I.).

"What's more important is our work together and the pressure for three Republicans to do the right thing for everyone," she said.

Entirely possible.  In my version of the analogy, though, Trump et al. are at the playing with matches stage.

I wish I could buy into this.  I used to say that GOP and then MAGA has done a great job getting people to vote against their own self-interest.  I don't believe that anymore.  MAGA's self-interest prioritizes persecuting the "other" and having an idol to worship over their own well-being.  It's fucking sad.  My only hope is that Trump kicks it and no one else has his ability to coalesce the deplorables to action.

This.  This the whole thing.  This ethos governs our nation right now, and there's no way to get off of this ride.

We will literally fucking destroy ourselves in order to hurt "the other," with the people getting their faces eaten only meekly complaining "wait, I didn't want you to hurt ME, just hurt THEM!", which won't even slow down the train that's rolling over us all.

We DID have one of the greatest countries in the world.  And we're going to destroy it to chunks of rubble because we just couldn't handle the idea of there being some people who also lived here who we don't like for various stupid reasons.

America is being sold to the highest bidder...

The fascinating thing is that literally ALL restraints and constraints are gone.  There are none left.  We have no laws, no guardrails, nothing at all.  The POTUS can straight-up require that people pay him (via his businesses) huge sums of money in order to get favorable treatment.  He can set up crypto scams/grifts that allow him to make many more millions off of insider info.

At this point, he could absolutely require Vladimir Putin to deliver him several billion dollars in exchange for the US deploying military force AGAINST Ukraine, and it would happen, with nothing to stop it.

There are some things you can't come back from, and can never recover from.  This Trump presidency is such a thing.  We will never have a non-corrupt, non-oligarch State again.

Right... even if those sensible get back in power, how does the continuation of government even take place? They've fired or are firing anyone who is impartial, those pledging an oath to the Constitution and country, to serve in the best interest regarding of their political persuasion. So hypothetically in 4 years, does the next President hire everyone who was fired and then fire those who are compromised pledging an oath to maga? We can't repeat this every 4 years with Democrats putting in place programs helping Americans, only for Republicans to destroy it all.

Hell I'm worried dude may not leave with all this Third Term Project nonsense. I know they need to amend the Constitution, technically... even so, Trump may just stay in office again and say screw it, Presidential immunity.

I've been chatting with my son, who is in college and his friends. The most depressing thing to hear is how pessimistic they are about the future of this country. And I can't think of anything positive to say at the moment.

Massive bloodletting, ala WW1 or WW2, is the only thing that "solves" this issue. We are headed there in a hurry though, so that's good.

Sucks that all the dumbasses in this country voted for this outcome. I guess I am along for the ride, not much I can do personally. thisisfine.jpg

you know...i don't know about you guys but i'm really starting to feel like 'Trump's America' kinda sucks 😣

Why, just because the market's plummeted like 7% in less than two weeks, GDP growth is all of a sudden projected to be negative, grocery inflation has already started, there's suddenly an employment crisis, we've turned on an ally very publicly, we've stopped cyber ops against our old enemy Russia, and all of our European allies hate us now?

Yeah, but at least women don't have sovereignty over their own bodies anymore and military-grade weapons can still be purchased at sporting goods stores.

Fixed that for you.  Oh and about the Ukraine thing, I am guessing if Putin told Trump to attack Ukraine with missiles and drone strikes it would happen immediately and the Republican politicians would explain what a great move it is by Trump.

It will be a quick chain reaction. Safety net hospitals in smaller communities would be the first to close. The burden will then move to safety net hospitals in larger communities. Those will become so strained that, they too, will have to close or turn away patients. As the volume moves into the community, profit and not for profit hospitals will start feeling the pinch and have to start making tough decisions.

Not a tough decision at all for the for profit hospitals.  You got money, we'll treat you.  Hey you, yeah you over there bleeding out from your eyeballs... take your broke bitch ass down the road.
