Pics of WWII Bomber Flagged For Removal Under Pete Hegseth’s ‘DEI’ Purge — Because ‘Gay’ Is in Its Name

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon’s DEI purge is wiping out more than just diversity initiatives — it’s reportedly erasing history, as images of Black soldiers, pioneering female service members, and even photos of World War II Hiroshima bomber Enola Gay, have been flagged for deletion.

The database of flagged content, which was obtained by the Associated Press and confirmed by the U.S. government, shows more than 26,000 images already marked for removal across military branches, though one official estimates the real total could exceed 100,000 when factoring in social media and websites.

Hegseth ordered the sweeping purge, giving the military until Wednesday to remove any content that highlights diversity initiatives.

Among the targeted materials: photos of the Tuskegee Airmen, the nation’s first Black military pilots; an all-female C-17 crew during Women’s History Month; and images of Medal of Honor recipient Pfc. Harold Gonsalves. Even a routine Army Corps of Engineers project was flagged — apparently because an engineer in the photo had the last name “Gay.”

I don't disagree that they should be getting out there and counter programming, but it's not about reasoning and appeal. It's about giving permission to hate. That's the core selling pitch for the republican party.

Democracy relies on us not resorting to our baser instincts. Trump is permission to be the mosr base and id version of yourself that you can muster.

I agree with that, but Trump’s supporters suport him because he acts like he wins. Just pause for a moment and imagine how Trump would have been eviscerated by Reagan, Obama, Bill Clinton, Biden in his prime, or even W?

And it wouldn’t have been because they were bigger liars, or because of policy or any of that. They would have made him the butt of the joke constantly, jammed him up until he popped, and made him look weak. Among many other things, Democrats need to change their style. That’s why I said their best play for this ridiculous speech was to just sit there, roll their eyes, and laugh out lough at the stupid parts.

When Democrats try to run on soundbites and emotion, they get pushed about their policy goals. Kamala tried campaigning on vibes for a while, and then the entire media ecosystem was all "What's Kamala's plan for x, y, and z, over and over and over again while completely ignoring Trump's utter lack of a plan. And the Republicans, of course, were even lying about having concepts of a plan.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU COMPETE WHEN YOU ARE HELD TO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STANDARDS?

Fucking this, the handwringing over what the democrats should do is pointless. The party is far broader and no matter what the candidate does or says half the party will be angry that they’re too moderate or too progressive. There’s a reason the “poorly educated” dominate the right, you just have to distract them with a trans girl playing volleyball, and you can literally spit in their face on everything else and they’ll vote in support. Theirs is no way to change that dynamic, we’re a despicable country whose majority are hateful despicable people first and foremost. We’re at the end. The other thread derailed over who wishes or supports terrorism in the US, it doesn’t matter, it’s gonna happen either way, and is beneficial to the right because they will just declare martial law, i.e., actual dictatorship. That’s not hyperbole, and everyone here knows it even those who will pretend otherwise.

American Majority: YAY! libtears!

If you think loud pushback changes anything you’re delusional. Anytime dems are outspoken they lose support, period, regardless of what they do or say. If they had refused as a party to attend the speech they’d get crushed in the midterms as opposed to just loosing badly which is what’s gonna happen either way.

I'm glad that you appreciate the medical systems handling of the Covid crisis. Did the legal system do okay keeping Trump from retaining power the first time? Jack Smith was appointed in 2023, and not in 2021.. Appeals in all of turnip’s cases were not handled as expeditiously as humanly possible. And a failed coup ringleader was allowed on ballots and was elected leader of the free world.

Edited to say that the legal system performed less than admirably in the cases brought after the election of 2020. Sixty plus lawsuits? Outrageous. Torrent of lies, in effect, unchecked. Sure, turnip lost those cases, just as reasonable folks explaining fact counters any given propagandist lie. Cumulatively, the lie is believed.

Is SCOTUS not a part of the legal system? The broader legal community might have focused on that decision and made that the hill to die on while a rational person was POTUS.

They don’t even have a code of ethics. The Buda Planning and Zoning Commission is more bound to conduct itself subject to the law than the Supreme Court.

I think you are understating reality. When it has been proven by actions that laws and the constitution that underlies them don’t have to be followed, I would posit that the entire legal profession has been turned on its head. Our judicial system is a joke and works to the benefit of the rich and powerful. If polled, what percentage of respondents would respond that they have trust in our legal system? I have lost all trust and I come from a family of attorneys, including a federal judge appointed by Truman.

That's fair.  Certainly wasn't up to prosecuting Trump.  Not like it would have made one tiny bit of difference.

I share the opinion Jack Smith should have been appointed in 2021 and not 2023. I'm not sure the end result changes, though. The part about the appeals not being handled fast enough isn't specific enough for me to comment, but I think we all wish the wheels of justice turned faster. In court, Trump was convicted of multiple felonies and found liable for sexual assault, so I tend to blame the American voters for electing the coup ringleader.

Regarding the edit: all the courts can do is rule on the cases brought, and as you point out, Trump lost those cases. The courts can't make people believe the truth instead of propaganda.

I appreciate you taking the time to rationally express your thoughts on the issue.

A conviction that carried a finding of an act of insurrection would have absolutely made a difference, in that Calvinball would unequivocally be recognized as superior to the Constitution in the eyes of the current SCOTUS, assuming their immunity finding came down as it did. In that scenario, with months to go before the election, we might have been witness to impeachment proceedings of SCOTUS members.

Very good posts, my friends.

These moronic and monster tendencies were already present, but it was Reagan and Rush who started galvanizing them into the malicious and self-righteous political force that they are today. Aside from wickedness, their strongest trait is their absurd level of confidence in their beliefs.

Fuck Reagan and we should have buried Rush alive.

Well, even so, the appeals process would have prevented that from being final, both of the conviction itself and the disqualification. And, in the meantime, it would have made no difference.

Trump wanted the Declaration of Independence on display in the Oval.

But the president has also asked advisers in recent days about moving the Declaration of Independence into the Oval Office, according to people familiar with the conversations who requested anonymity to describe the planning.

Trump’s request alarmed some of his aides, who immediately recognized both the implausibility and the expense of moving the original document. Displayed in the rotunda at the National Archives Building, in Washington, D.C., it is perhaps the most treasured historical document in the U.S. government’s possession. The original is behind heavy glass in an oxygen-free, argon-filled case that can retract into the wall at night for security. Because of light damage to the faded animal-skin parchment, the room is kept dimly lit; restrictions have been placed on how often the doors can even be opened.   But to the relief of aides, subsequent discussions appear to have focused on the possibility of moving one of the historical copies of the document, not the original.

No, but holding a majority coalition in such contempt and disdain is also symptomatic of why Democrats lose.

Good use of symptomatic. There are other symptoms as you allude.

The main reason we lost is that we're the minority. I don't know that I want to abandon contempt and disdain for the active and acquiescent who are responsible for where we are. I'm in the camp of those hoping for some element of that minority to awaken and act due to implosion. I don't see any winning strategy at the moment.

To be clear, I don't think what I've written is in disagreement with what you have written.

Perfect example of why people have lost trust in the legal system. For those with the resources, the process can be prolonged as such to delay any real consequences.

A conviction is not a conviction until it is final, meaning appeals are exhausted.

There would first have to have been a final conviction and then likely a civil proceeding challenging the application of the 14th Amendment.

That's about eight years worth of litigation in our system.

Sigh. Well, as it pertains to an effective 14th Amendment:

More than any other single thing, even the Supreme Court, the delay inherent to the system (even before you get to Trump's dilatory tactics), made it impossible to secure a final conviction, for anything, in the space of four years.

Note that his NY conviction is on appeal and is thus not yet final.

Honest question for which I should probably know the answer:  is sentencing always delayed until the appeal process has been exhausted?
