Shumer is actually voting to give trump and musk money to continue destroying the government?
It's starting to get to the point that Democrats not doing the obvious thing and drilling these assholes publicly for the shit they're doing means they're secretly ok with it all happening. They aren't poor. They aren't losing their jobs. Their kids go to private schools too.
Not rising up as a voice for the American people at this time means they just flat out don't want the responsibility of following through on promising to help the American people.

They’re scared. Plain and simple. Most don’t want the mob sicked on them and/or eventually sent to a camp or prison.

So we need to threaten them with violence to get them to represent us? Is that what they are saying?

Then it's all over, this is a dictatorship run by the dumbest dictator since Nero, and we all might as well just enjoy every day the system and infrastructure hasn't collapsed on our heads and killed us.

It's okay.  We'll be distracted by the war with Canada before the end of the summer.  So we have that to look forward to.

And no, I'm not kidding.  It has ratcheted up from "no fucking way" to "maybe it could happen" to "holy shit, it's really going to happen" in no time.

You cannot demonstrate the level of belligerence that Trump has towards Canada and NOT end up in a shooting war.

Dear God, this is all so dumber than even I could have imagined.

Nothing bad has ever happened under Trump.

Is there any doubt that if he hadn’t been president in 2020, he’d be saying “Covid never would have happened with me as president!”.

Gavin Newsom, perhaps the front runner for the dem nomination in 2028, started a podcast last week. His first guest was Charlie Kirk. We are so screwed.

The rationale is that if the government shuts down, Trump and Musk will go hog wild destroying institutions and do far more damage than if the government stays open. Would we even hear what all they were cutting until the government re-opened?

They're going to do it anyway. Don't give them the funding and approval of Congress to do it. Make them do it on their own and fight it in the courts.

in other words, "all of you people under 150K, give us free reign to reduce the govt and we will reward you with no income taxes." This is the illusion of a bribe that will never happen.

... but rest assured that regardless you'll pay 3x as much in increased costs due to tariffs (while the rich folks somehow end up paying even less as we eventually gut any progressive taxes in favor of regressive sales taxes / tariffs).

Lulz. It’s ok, you don’t understand how this specific process has worked, or more generally how the adcom process works. I told y'all the strains were already selected with the FDA and CDCs involvement.you are correct that there are lots bad processes at the FDA. I thought that this had become obvious to most during the COVID period, but maybe not.

I hope it yields a good result, and this isn’t my area of expertise. But I’m not sure how removing independent external experts  makes the decisions of public bureaucracies better.

“As the premier Arts organization in the United States of America, we must work to make the Kennedy Center a place where everyone is welcomed,” Grenell wrote. “We clearly have work to do. And I hear your outrage.”

He cited the center’s diversity as a strength. “As President, I take diversity and inclusion very seriously,” he wrote. “I have met with many of you, and I love that we are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, agnostic, gay, straight, black, white, Hispanic and absolutely different.”

“Intolerance towards people who are politically different is just as unacceptable as intolerance in other areas,” he added. “Everyone is welcome at the Kennedy Center.”

He knows what he is doing, this is all just a game to them.

It’s their new thing. “Don’t be shitty to us just because of our political beliefs. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to get back to burning this country to the ground for Russia.”

Only a matter of time before all colleges and universities are remade into Trump University.

Trump administration outlines ‘next steps’ toward restoring Columbia grants

Oh, it’s about to get a lot worse in Texas:

Texas bill would increase oversight of universities’ hiring, curriculum and compliance

Senate Bill 37 would create a state office to investigate complaints against universities and require governing boards to ensure courses don’t endorse certain ideologies.

At this point, our only shot is for 1) invasion of Canada, leading to a hot war, which 2) leads to mutiny among members of the military and/or secession by multiple states that will not go along with the madness, leading to 3) civil war, and then 4) maybe when it's all over, and we've only used 3-5 nukes on our own soil, we can slowly reconstitute ourselves into a functioning nation with 5% of its former prosperity and power.

I'm thinking that's our BEST case scenario, FFS.

I told you earlier up thread. The adcom is just a rubber stamp. The political hay, to the extent it is to be made here, is pointing out the role of the WHO GIDP group and the necessity of effective collaboration between FDA/CDC and that group. Despite the loud public rhetoric from the admin leaving the WHO, the key partners were waived to engage with the GIDP flu surveillance group, shared our data, and contributed to the strain selection process. Which is good, it's an important process. And that engagement needs to continue in the future. There is lots to criticize the WHO about, but this is an important function. Our political climate doesn't allow for much nuance though, so here we are. Take those talking points as my gift to you, and next time miss me with the @ when you run across a tweet in a subject matter area that you have no idea how it works.

Maybe make Canada the 51st state. Republicans never win another national election and we get universal health care.

Correct.  It's over, and the Democrats know it's over, and they are afraid of what is coming, and rightly so.

Let's say just for a second the country gets incredibly lucky, again, and there are actually elections in 2026. And Republicans get hammered because of this insanity, and trump backs down because he doesn't want to be arrested after getting impeached by a Democrat Congress.

Either in 2028. Or 2030. Or 2032... Americans will turn it all back over to Republicans.

There's no hope because there's no learning from mistakes. There's no acknowledgement of reality. It's rinse and repeat until the country has devolved into Russia.
