Well, except Bessent was doing jackshit to restrain Trump.  Either way, he's a lickspittle.

If he is having second thoughts, it's probably because he sees his post-administration stock trading career circling the drain.

he’s a failed hedge fund manager.

How could the commerce secretary be such a fucking idiot?  This administration is mind-blowing.

Pretty unavoidable to conclude that the world would be a much better place if this dude had been with the rest of his firm on the morning of 9/11.

Yes. Yes I have.
There are a bunch of Internet rumors that Scott Bessent is going to bail. If that happens, imo the U.S. is in serious, serious trouble. For all of Trumps idiocy, Bessent was a competent Treasury Secretary. He was the adult in a room full of mental midgets.
He's supposedly so sick of Trump already, he’s had it, just like Tillerson. Without competent financial leadership, this situation could get very very scary financially.
This tariff policy is the absolute worst possible action that could have been taken by our government, given the problems we currently face financially.

Don Jr is tanned, rested and super buzzed. Ready to roll on that finance stuff.

But seriously...you have never contributed to any campaign?

Act Blue is a godsend for Dem candidates. So much so that the GOP did their own version, "Win Red".

All the infrastructure is already in place, and the money goes right to the campaign.  Sure, the website will ask for an optional "tip", just as imma does on this board.  Servers and bandwidth isn't free.

Yep. I think the money is better spent supporting organizations that help the victims of the administration. Gay advocacy, legal support for persons of color being rounded up indescriminately, food programs, and the like.

I don't want to starve the Dems, but they are not the best instrument in this struggle, at least so far. Public outcry may alleve some of their fears of losing their seats. So many Dems are so timid.

@immamac

why do you still allow shitposting Republicans , like @Wulaw Horn, to steal @UTPhil2006 Mortgage business on the website? Phil had one of the longest running threads before the  crossover and nobody ever heard a public story about why that asshole Gabe got a sponsored thread. Why we get regulated to seeing this dickhead pat himself in the back with pictures of dumbass trophies and hope for economic calamity to make business good for himself bothers everyone.

What are you even talking about? Is this one of your sarcastic posts it's hard to tell what you are joking about anymore.

I think Trump supporters who are rooting for economic and government failure should be shamed and face the consequences. When the new board started he snaked the mortgage thread and a sponsorship role from a much better person.

The hilarious thing that occurred to me this morning.  When all of this is over, whenever and however it ends, we are going to have a lot of work to do to....(checks notes) make America great again.

Generations worth of work.
And we’ll never restore it all. Once the empire is lost, it’s lost. Ask Great Britain.

Yep, every other time when the market shit itself you could buy in and know that at some point you are going to get a return on your investment.  It might take longer depending on how quick you tried to catch the falling knives.  This time, there is no guarantee we ever get back to where we were or at least not in our lifetimes.  When other nations start making alliances without us we are sitting here sucking our own dicks in a lost couple of decades ala Japan from the late 1980's or as you said GB.

We could shit can the dotard and his entire team tomorrow and it won't change shit now that the trust has been ruined.  Other nations are not going to put their security at risk over the whims of a few uneducated rube slapdicks in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc every four years.

Hopefully the Saudis give him the Khashoggi treatment.   Maybe they will take out Kid Rock, Lee Greenwood and Couch fucker while they are at it.

He did back in the Trump 1.0 days and his political hot takes were… something. Probably realized showing his ass was bad for business.

SIAP, but it's unbelievable (well, not really) that the White House posts shit like this. I had to make sure it was actually the official account:

They use fist bump emojis when talking about covert military strikes.  These are not serious people, they are drunks, grifters, morons, basically imagine you emptied out a fraternity of the worst kinds of members and then created a new fraternity with those outcasts.   That is the republican leadership.

Not too worried about it, comes with being an active poster.

I'm not gonna speak for Wulaw, but I do know he's not in CR much if at all these days and he's definitely not openly rooting for anything like stassney is saying.

If it was obvious that he was supporting things antithetical to the spirit of surly we would stop the sponsorship. I need some help understanding that though if it's the case.

Yeah, wasn’t endorsing or agreeing with Stassney. I put him on ignore ever since he went off the rails and became a loon. Was just adding some background that wulaw was a regular CR poster a number of years ago. Haven’t seen him post here in a long time which, as I mentioned, is probably good for his business because his hot takes made him look like a moron.

Just don't threadshit with Politics only, leave any spin or opinion on the political side out of it you can put any opinion on the economic/news/business side of it.

Rick Reilly wrote a whole book about this.  Its all of it, is the answer.  My favorite anecdote is when he didn’t play in the first round but announced he had shot a great round at another course earlier that week and used that score.

But yeah, he kicks balls, his caddy will throw other players’ balls in hazards, he will give himself mulligans, etc.

Pick up 8 foot putts. And I could be mistaken, but my recollection was he just showed up at one of his courses on the day after a tourney or something and asked what the winner shot. He was told the guy’s score and then said he shot better last week and made them change the plaque to put him as the winner. He didn’t even play in the tournament.

Yeah.  I’m hoping that he had an epiphany.   He was very much on team “ pull yourself up by your own bootstraps you lazy slackers who deserve your life situation” in discussing social issues.

Then, after a lifetime of stuffing his face with high calorie food and being a fatty, he started a thread that said “it’s not because I stuffed my face with high calorie crap food and don’t exercise that made me a fatty - the doctor said it’s not my fault.”

All the poor less successful people raised in dysfunctional families by poorly educated parents in poor neighborhoods, eating unhealthy foods and receiving crappy education in inferior schools might - just might - not be as successful as Wulaw because they did not have his advantages in life….and there was no surgery to correct that list of life challenges.

To be clear, I absolutely supported Wulaw in his journey to new health status, and in no way are saying that the reasons why he had weight challenges are not absolutely accurate.  I’m just hoping that he can see how his situation could translate to other people’s different situations, and have the same understanding why some people may have a problem succeeding that is not due to their character flaws.

Social security administration in a "death spiral."

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/06/musk-doge-social-security

Office closures, staffing and service cuts, and policy changes at the Social Security Administration (SSA) have caused “complete, utter chaos” and are threatening to send the agency into a “death spiral”, according to workers at the agency.

The SSA operates the largest government program in the US, administering social insurance programs, including retirement, disability and survivor benefits.

An average of almost 69 million Americans per month will receive a social security benefit in 2025, totaling about $1.6tn in benefits paid during the year and accounting for 22% of the federal budget. While expensive and challenged by an ageing population, social security remains overwhelmingly popular with Americans. But the agency has been dubbed a “Ponzi scheme” by Elon Musk, the billionaire whose so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) is currently slashing its staff and budgets.
