I guess this proves that there is no "deep state" controlling everything, and that we are being run by a group of disorganized sociopaths.

Yep.  Remember how all the Trumpers wouldn't shut up about how we all need to be armed, because "that's the last line of defense against an authoritarian state - disarming the public was how them Nazis were able to run roughshod and kill all those people!"???  Turns out, the fuckers were right about that.  They just didn't tell us that they were the authoritarian state we'd have to worry about.

We're getting pretty goddamned close to "last line of defense" territory.

No other position makes sense.  Normalcy would dictate that you would want to correct an obvious wrong if you could.  They cant because the dude is dead.

One position that would make sense is that backing down would pop this little trial balloon they've floated, asserting their authority to do whatever the fuck they want.

Someone needs to take her out and dye her hair purple so that shallow fuckers who are so gotdam wound up about stupid shit like that (e.g., Johnny Sack, aka Frank Drebin, but not him per se, as he's a fucking christofascist to the bone) won't give that evil cunt the time of day.

Note: I don't actually believe this; I just wanted an excuse to hurl an insult at that hypocritical Baptist trust-fund deacon who has a weird fixation on purple hair.

Prolly should be a separate thread, but what type of "arms" should a person who knows fuck-all about guns (me) look to invest in?  Fired my first non-pellet gun at a range during my bachelor party about 8 years ago.  Wife will be a hard sell to keep them in the house, but desperate times...

never hurts to have a shotgun or two handy for inside intruders. in that situation you don't want to worry too much about aim. beyond that, whatever you're comfortable that you're not gonna accidentally shoot yourself or your loved ones with. and no, this is entirely the appropriate thread for this conversation

Pretty good thread here, but it ends with a little bit too much faith in "the streets" for how I'm feeling right now (she's an activist).

The essay she writes based on this thread is worth reading if you've got 10 minutes. There are a couple of interesting points she raises in the essay mentioned at the end (https://www.cawshinythings.com/fascism-minus-kampf/) I haven't considered or heard before, especially regarding perceptions people had about the economy during his first term.

My husband and I are looking to get a couple Glocks. We have a shotgun already. I’m not a gun guy, but through some research found that a Glock is a good beginner gun

yeah that's the Reddit consensus I saw for a low recoil starter handgun.  Wife who has never even touched a gun will need something almost toy-like to learn.

And the shotgun is def on the list.  Hunter buddies have been telling me that for years - pistol-grip shotgun with buckshot for general home defense.

I doubt they know or care if he's alive or dead. It's more because if you let one person back in, it can create a legal opportunity to let more people back in or to show that you can in fact go back on the policy if something is done in error. It's an all or nothing approach that's consistent with MAGA thinking. Look at abortion.

This.  Something you feel comfortable with.  Keep it simple and mainstream.  A basic semi-auto, probably in 9mm for ammo availability.

He may have been raised by one and gone to a private school affiliated with them (according to posts regarding its sports teams), but he belongs to a Baptist church (according to posts where he mentions the specific church). But don't mention the names of either place in association with him. Otherwise, he'll cry to the mods and have them give you a timeout, accusing you of trying to dox him.

So he's the unicorn that actually joined an SBC church instead of abandoning them for a husband/wife preaching duo non-dom church in the suburbs.

I have no idea if he was ever Church of Christ but can say my mom, who was raised in that church, married and "converted" to Southern Baptist after marrying my dad. It's something her Church of Christ mom never forgave her for, saying we (our little nuclear family) were all going to hell for it.

if you are not gun people, my only recommendation is to choose a caliber and weapon that does not have a ton of recoil.

And often people are not as familiar with a semi-automatic, and working the slide is hard for some people.  My recommendation is to get a Ruger LCR revolver in .327.    this will go against the grain of many people here, but I don’t think I need to go against the entire zombie nation, I most likely will need to defend my home against intruders looking to steal stuff.

That Ruger revolver means you can shoot the very effective and powerful .327 cartridge, but also 32 magnum 32 regular and 32 short.   You will be able to find a cartridge that you can manage without flinching.   Being accurate and placing your shots is far more important than having some hand cannon that you can’t hit what you were aiming at.

Lastly, a revolver is as uncomplicated as it gets and is a reliable weapon.  I’m an older guy and so I love me some wheel guns.   My final suggestion would be that when you purchase them, you take them to a gun range and find out which ammo caliber and brands your gun likes and you like. When you find the right ammunition that you will be using for self protection, make sure you practice at the range with that exact ammunition. You need to be comfortable and proficient firing your gun.

Anything less than being comfortable and skilled is a danger to you and a danger to others.  if you ever need to use it, you do not want to be nervous and unfamiliar with using it.

Good luck.

Not a lawyer, not even close, but a bunch of you guys are.  Help me understand or give some clarity.   If they come get me off the street(say it’s the student from up in the NE).   They then fly me blindfolded to Lake Charles or Alvarado(these are the two big facilities I’m aware of).  So they are saying they are detained in Louisiana or Texas and not where they are taken?   So what’s the period called where you’re taken off the street and flown to a final destination?   How is that not kidnapping?

Absolutely fucking wild!  And of course Kasmerick sits as a fed judge in Texas.  They want friendly judges who support this shit

I get that, mine too.  But how is it legal to call Texas or Louisiana where everyone is detained.  If they cuff me, they are detaining me right then and there, correct?

fuck this - brisket is 10000% correct.  Blood is going to happen when anyone tries to detain anyone now.

I honestly don't understand what nuance you're looking for here. it's kidnapping and disappearing of american citizens. there is no spin here. none of this is legal.

It's sad that a guy with some faith in the system gets insulted and shouted down like this. No dissenting opinions allowed? Sounds familiar. I haven't lost all hope yet, and for good reason.  None of this shit has played out, despite what anyone says. If all of you really believed that the Republic was dead, why haven't you done something?  I mean, something other than lament it on the internet. If the courts abandon the Constitution and bend the knee or if Trump Co. openly violates a final court order, then I'll believe it's over.

I was where you are now back during Trump's first term and while the wheels of justice slowly ground to a halt during Biden's term.

I'm now fully out on Brisket's ledge.

I don't think it's nuance as much as people are trying to make sense of the potential logistics of it all.  So you're stopped on the street, put in cuffs, and stuffed into a van.  After that, I assume you're blindfolded and either taken to a random holding facility or straight to the airport.  Is it there where someone tells you "I hope you told your family you loved them this morning because you'll never see them again.  You're going to a South American torture prison where you will eventually die."

Or do they take a page from the family separators at the border and lie the way ICE told parents that their kids would be returned to them after a medical evaluation?

I'm not sure what exactly is gained from this clarification, but it's a mind-boggling series of events that we're witnessing and will likely need to explain to our kids someday.

From what's been reported, they don't tell the people they kidnap where they're taking them or give them the opportunity to contact anyone. The only practical way for anyone who has been detained to file a habeas petition is for a friend or family member to know that they've been taken and hire a lawyer for them. If you're kidnapped, you have no way of knowing where you and you have no way of hiring an attorney for yourself.

Last I looked, all of your posts are still up for all to see. So yes, dissenting opinions are allowed. People telling you what they think of your opinions, also allowed.  Which means this site is currently one up on the USA as far as free speech goes.
