This and the CFPB.  Could there be any more blatant signal that Trump and his government do not give one single solitary fuck about consumers?

NIH is the world’s largest funder of cancer research—

Shouldn’t they be asking those questions? I could give you a list of abuse and waste and fraud, and you don't have any interest in hearing it. I mean, I just see by these questions, just wondering, with all of the bad things that have happened, with all of the things we found, you have no interest in those things. You only have an interest. So what about this? What about that? Our country is going to be strong again because of what we're doing, and this is not a sustainable model, what we're looking at. And I think very importantly, I had a great election. Won all seven swing states, won millions and millions of votes. Won millions of votes. They say it was the most consequential election in 129 years. I don't know if that's right, but it was certainly a big win, and that's despite cheating that took place, by the way, because there was plenty of cheating that took place.

my favorite excerpt:

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that you have to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia. You haven't done so. Aren’t you disobeying the Supreme Court?

Well, that’s not what my people told me—they didn’t say it was, they said it was—the nine to nothing was something entirely different.

Let me quote from the ruling. “The order properly requires the government to facilitate Aboriginal Garcia's release from custody in El Salvador.” Are you facilitating a release?

I leave that to my lawyers. I give them no instructions. They feel that the order said something very much different from what you're saying. But I leave that to my lawyers. If they want—and that would be the Attorney General of the United States and the people that represent the country. I don't make that decision.

Yeah.  Just skip ahead to the last page.  Lots of preliminaries, lots of "will it or won't it."  But just cheat, and read the last page.  That's what it says.  Everything else is delay and pointless exposition.

No one is dying in the streets for a judge helping an illegal immigrant in Wisconsin. I would bet that if you polled the NFL draft tonight, you’d get less than 20% think it is a major issue at all. No one knows how fascist countries become fascist. They just look at the results or end of the regimes and think that we are too far away from that happening here.

It’s telling just how much Trump resents the justice system: He absolutely loves, adores and identifies with criminals. With him, the more criminal one is, the better:

https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/politics-and-government/nevada/michele-fiore-says-shes-been-pardoned-by-trump-after-federal-guilty-verdict-3362518/

President Donald Trump has granted “a full and unconditional pardon” to Michele Fiore, the former Las Vegas councilwoman found guilty of defrauding donors who believed they were giving money for a statue to honor a fallen Las Vegas police officer.

“Today, I stand before you — not just as a free woman, but as a vindicated soul whose prayers were heard, whose faith held firm, and whose truth could not be buried by injustice,” Fiore said in a text message statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday.

Fiore was found guilty of conspiracy and wire fraud charges by a federal jury in October. Federal prosecutors accused Fiore of raising tens of thousands of dollars through a charity and political action committee for a statue honoring Metropolitan Police Department officer Alyn Beck, who was shot and killed with his partner in 2014.

Prosecutors said Fiore spent the donations on rent, plastic surgery and payments on her daughter’s wedding. On Thursday, Fiore’s defense attorneys filed a motion to vacate her May 14 sentencing and included a copy of Wednesday’s order from Trump pardoning Fiore.

She was never really punished for the crime,” he said. “That sends a horrible message if you’re an elected official who engages in public corruption.”

Return to the bench?

Fiore cast the pardon in biblical terms. Her statement began with a phrase lifted from the book of Isaiah: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper” and said she would return to her position as a Pahrump justice of the peace.

“On Monday, I will walk back into my courtroom as the elected Justice of the Peace — not because man permitted it, but because God ordained it,” she wrote.

Pahrump Justice Court administrator Alisa Shoults said she did not yet know if Fiore, who was suspended without pay by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline, would return to her position Monday.

Still wondering if Canada can accept WA, OR, and CA as their newest province.  Surely Trump and his minions wouldn’t oppose these liberal wastelands becoming another country’s problem.

then he wouldn’t want to annex Canada quite so much.

Well, what would you prefer me to do?  Rant and scream about something completely ineffectual?

Or provide useful information that explains why the charges won't actually stick.

Of course it's intimidation and it's bullshit.  But at least this class of victims has the knowledge and likely wherewithal to challenge this.

It is conceivable, but probably unlikely, that a federal judge enjoins ICE from attempting to enforce these statutes against state officials, who cannot be commandeered to enforce federal immigration law.

I told you people that you'd come to love due process of law once the tables turned.

The thing that makes my teeth itch is it wasn't "a judge helping an illegal immigrant" - it was a judge not allowing cops to go arrest someone without a proper fuckin warrant.

This judge is being arrested by trumpco for not giving him the ol okeydoke like they've become accustomed to. I'd love to hear from @TwiceHorn why this ISN'T a serious attack on the judiciary - even if the charges are complete bullshit. I really don't understand your earlier comment on how the charges will obviously get beat so it's not such a big deal

Never said it wasn't.

But the first question you have to ask when criminal charges are brought is:  can the defendant be convicted.

Because if an indictment alleges an offense on which someone can legitimately be convicted, most other shit goes out the window.

Now, given the incompetence of the Trump administration, a deep dive into documents and statements might actually prove a political motive and selective prosecution, but those aren't notoriously successful motions to dismiss because intention is usually very difficult to prove and very easy to pretextualize.

Also note that this wasn't, apparently, because Judge Dugan had ruled against the government in immigration cases.  She's a Wisconsin county-level judge who wouldn't rule on most anything approaching an immigration case.

It was because of specific actions she took with respect to a specific party before her court.  Nonetheless, it appears that the charges will not stick.

Explaining it is the issue. The administration knows how to market their evil. Explain the nuance between what she did and what is out there and you will get nowhere. And even if you can get the average American to understand it, you will likely be asked why you are okay with an undocumented immigrant not being deported. Why? Because  Miller and his minions have spent the last 8+ years vilifying immigrants.

You want people to be in the streets risking violence? It has to actually affect the average American. Or like elections, a white woman in Pennsylvania to be exact.

It's more that trumps target audience doesn't give a shit about anything except what he says. They're fully into the cult of personality, and will fully argue that the sky is yellow and the sun is blue if trump says so.

They WANT everything trump says to be true. It means the world is simple and can be addressed with the simple solutions that trump proposes. It takes some strong stuff to break that spell. For 1930s/40s Germany it took most of their men dying in war and their cities being turned into bouncing rubble before nazis started to believe they just might not be the master race.

We're dealing with the same caliber of evil today. Today they even borrow yesterday's phrases and slogans.

That’s not about giving Trump and his people too much credit. Conservatives and rich, white alumni have gone after Ivy League admissions for the last decade. They have funded a lot of lawsuits that have helped reshape admission processes after being unable to dissuade the schools on their own. The ultimate goal in regards to this topic is less international students. Hating bad brown people and other foreigners would still not convince Ivy League schools to go away from a successful model they have right now.

Plus he likes to claim that because his uncle was smart, that means he’s smart. He’s big on inheritance that way. (Except in cases of rape resulting in pregnancy, of course. That unwanted child should totally be brought to term an won’t inherit the violent criminal nature of their father.)

I see it like they don't want brown people to come here to vote.  They don't mind educating them as long as they don't try for citizenship.   They don't necessarily want white people getting educated to the point where they start critically thinking.    They want the people who can vote be part of their hive mind cult, easier to maintain.  Educated brown people can do all the high tech stuff, and they don't have to pay them much when they can threaten them with deportation.  The best of both worlds for the corporations that mean to rule the world.
