How long till Trump starts asking around if there is a cheaper/more efficient way to move humans to a different place on the planet and something like this makes it to his desk:

Montreal is famous for its sex workers….

Just sayin’

Funny addendum to that point: my daughter went to college in Montreal.  Being American, she had to get a student visa.  She got it, and it allowed her to work 20 hours a week (as student visas often do).  But it had one restriction, which cracked her up -- NO SEX WORK.  So, you can go pursue your studies in Montreal, but don't think you're gonna fund those by being a stripper or a hooker.  Those jobs are FOR LOCALS.

“Any prolonged pause in funding could disrupt H.I.V. treatment programs, leading to treatment interruptions, rise of drug-resistant H.I.V.,” said Jirair Ratevosian, who served as chief of staff for Pepfar during the Biden administration. “That’s playing with fire, risking progress that we’ve made over decades to control the H.I.V. epidemic.”

Trump Pauses Disbursements to Program Supplying H.I.V. Treatment Worldwide
Pepfar, which is estimated to have delivered lifesaving treatment as many as 25 million people in 54 countries, faces a funding delay of as long as 180 days.

The Trump administration has halted disbursement of funds from a program that supplies most of the treatment for H.I.V. in Africa and developing countries worldwide for at least 90 days.

The action stems from President Trump’s executive order on foreign aid, which directs all government divisions with foreign development assistance programs to stop disbursing funds to countries and organizations until they can be reviewed.

That includes the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, known as Pepfar, a $7.5 billion program overseen by the State Department, officials were told in a memo on Wednesday obtained by The New York Times.

In a separate directive on Friday, also viewed by The Times, officials were informed that although the initial review of foreign aid is intended to be completed within 85 days, final decisions might take up to 180 days.

The longer timeline, and the pause on funding even to existing programs, dismayed some public health and development experts.

“Any prolonged pause in funding could disrupt H.I.V. treatment programs, leading to treatment interruptions, rise of drug-resistant H.I.V.,” said Jirair Ratevosian, who served as chief of staff for Pepfar during the Biden administration. “That’s playing with fire, risking progress that we’ve made over decades to control the H.I.V. epidemic.”

Resistant strains of the virus that emerge in other nations would also endanger Americans, he noted.

Since its start in 2003 during the George W. Bush administration, Pepfar is estimated to have delivered lifesaving treatment as many as 25 million people in 54 countries. It was due for a five-year reauthorization in 2023, but it survived a Republican effort to end the program and was renewed for one year.

Public health experts had worried that a new Trump administration would end the program altogether, but some hoped the appointment of Marco Rubio as secretary of state would spell good news for the program. Mr. Rubio has previously supported Pepfar.

The directive to halt existing foreign aid initiatives jeopardizes the lives of people who currently rely on assistance from the United States, some experts warned.

“Some of these programs are the only thing keeping refugee communities alive,” said Gyude Moore, a nonresident fellow at the Center for Global Development and Liberia’s former Minister of Public Works.

“Very vulnerable people will be hurt and it is unclear how this advances American interests,” Mr. Moore said.

My one trip to a Montreal strip club was pretty, uh, special. Stunning  women (as there are all over Quebec in general), and they were just all over me. Good times.

But I digress ...

If we decide to move outside the Un-united States of MAGA, Montreal is at or near the top of the list, and not just because of the amazing, hot strippers.

My wife, the boy and I were wandering Montreal one night, on St. Catherines, the weekend we dropped the daughter off (she was already out running around with friends).  We were trying to figure out a place to eat, and were a bit stuck.  We stop along the sidewalk, only to realize that it was right at the entrance to one of the bigger strip clubs.  Bouncer in the door gruffly asks "what are you looking for?"  We turn to him, "ummm....some place to get dinner?"  "Hell, just go right next door here -- Mr. Steer.  Fantastic burgers!"

So we did.  He was right.  Simple, classic.

A C-17 costs about $25,000 per flight hour (internet search). Houston to Guatemala City is about a 3-hour flight.

I think the C-17 will be used for one or two photo ops because it makes everybody feel macho to see anything military. Vicarious manliness for Trump and his voters. Then they switch to trains or cheaper flight.

Who knows, maybe Trump Airline will re-arise to take the contract.

but, but, Biden's pardons were embarrassing or some shit

After actual Trump supporters -- including people Trump just had released from prison -- have called for his summary execution.

Trump is going to get people killed.

And not only will Trump supporters, including every Trump supporter who has ever shown up on this board, not object....they will be PLEASED.  Because summary executions of political enemies entirely outside the rule of law tells you that the fascist authoritarianism is working.

Now he's destroying what was basically the only good achievement of the W Bush administration. I think it's pretty clear that the oligarchs have decided a mass die-off serves their best long-term interests.

This is full-on sociopathy. And Americans are celebrating it.

someone explain to me how tariffs are about national security ?

Well, at least in theory, tariffs can drive manufacturing "back home" by making domestic goods price-competitive.  And some industries, like metals and semiconductors, raise national security issues.

Of course, doing that involves using carefully targeted tariffs. Like those against Chinese EVs.

man...i don't even know what thread to put this one in...i'm pretty disturbed by it tbh, prolly cause it's on the heals of several other things...

one, the conversation with my French friend i shared in the international thread, depressed the hell out of me cuz in the end you kind of still hope 'maybe it's just us, maybe we see too much of the minutiae so our view is skewed'. turns out nope, the world is indeed watching in horror/glee.

two, without providing too much detail for the law enforcement monitoring this board (🖕), currently assisting in a situation with a young woman who traveled many miles to get access to a service that is freely available where i live but recently outlawed where she lives. been a few fun conversations around CYA and what not to say and to whom, and changing phone numbers to escape harassment from a party that does not want her accessing said service...and being aware that said party can report her, and the friend that road with her, for a literal bounty, and making sure there is actually no proof of anything anywhere...and, you know, all of that. fun. there's something about the dawning horror of realizing what the conversation you are having actually means in terms of being a female citizen of the US in 2025.

and now...just had a puppy playdate with a new friend here, who...i can't even really unpack this one. she is nice, i like her, our dogs adore each other, politics just doesn't come up, as it shouldn't and used to be, right...and she advises she was diagnosed with aggressive stage 3 breast cancer three weeks ago. so she has an oncology team, and is getting a second opinion but is, at least as of now, planning to follow recommendations for the chemo/radiation then surgery treatment protocol. maybe. because...

...she's also going next month to a facility in AZ for eastern/holistic treatment. and she's started giving herself ivermectin already, and some other crap i never heard of, Mel Gibson said it worked. and thankfully Trump is in office now b/c RFK will 'open up' access to all kinds of alternative treatments. and did i mention she got laid off about 3 months ago and hasn't found a new job yet? so no insurance...but thankfully she qualified for...you know where this is going...Medicaid and so far she hasn't received a single bill! yay.

i mean, i got in the car and started crying b/c one, that totally sucks, and also EVERYTHING ELSE IN THAT INSANE CONVERSATION. what is even happening😖it's an honest to god struggle to even know anything to say in response. i just kept falling back on 'uh, well...oh i am just so sorry!!' and hugging her.

TL/DR - the past 24 hours basically:

tomorrow is a new day, hopefully a better one too

At 80 deportees per plane ride, it’s going to take 137,500 flights or almost 377 flights per day to get all those undocumented immigrants out of the country over the next year. Efficient, indeed. As you pointed out, chartering a 737 or A320 is going to be a lot cheaper than using a military C-17 and at a 50% load factor, we’re giving these folks a comfortable ride back to their home country.

Porn plus assholes like Andrew Tate talking about “high value women” and it’s gay if you have sex isn’t helping. Seriously - guys with any ability to talk to women should be knee deep in pussy.

I was mostly rageful the first go-round with Trump. This time, while still incredibly angry, particularly with people I care about (like my parents) for voting for Trump, I am just very depressed. I had a pretty good idea what was coming, but seeing it actually occur still fucking sucks.

For my own sake, I'm happy I have kids so I don't just drink myself into an early grave. For my kids sake, this is the worst. Assuming the fat fuck lives long enough, he will be the first president my eldest remembers.

Cuz it has mexicans on it? They know to play the pressure game. Look Meester Trump, we will help you with these bad central and south americans. They are ALL, everyone of them, MS-13, Mara 18, Tren de Agua and illegitimate children of either Che or Pablo Escobar. But, let our people stay please. Our gangs? No, they are not mexicans. It is those evil central americans.

Our mexicans, they love USA. They prove it everytime we play soccer. Those are not tackles, those are love taps. And for our people in the US without papers. It is just an oversight. They are hard working, have no vices, and build your homes. Don't you love how Lupita makes your bed at MAL? We can send you her sister and all her family so everyone will not have a bed as nice as your bed.
