You mean there isn’t a 72 inch water spigot from Peugeot Sound - the largest fresh water reserve in the PNW - directly flowing to Los Angeles just waiting to be used for this?

Come on, Troph.  Everyone nows that the Citroen and Vauxhall Rivers flow north across the Lancia Flats in to Opel Bay not Peugeot Sound.

Dow and X-energy have announced the selection of Dow’s UCC Seadrift Operations manufacturing site in Texas for its proposed advanced small modular reactor nuclear project.

The project is expected to provide the Seadrift Site with safe, reliable, zero-carbon-emissions power and steam as existing energy and steam assets near their end-of-life

I think someone else also brought this up, but LA gets some of its water from the Owens Valley.  Technically not the Central Valley since I think it lies just to the east of the crest of the High Sierras and generally slopes to the south.  There may be some other water projects of which I'm not aware, but Mullholland was best known for draining the Owens Valley dry.

But as we sit here and have a rational discussion about the particulars we might lose sight of the fact that TFG actually believes there's a twist valve somewhere that will magically divert limitless water from Canada to LA.  It's just evil politicians in CA that are preventing it for some unknown reason.  I wish everyone on the board the best of luck that we, and the country, survive this era.  God help us all.

True, re: Owens, but there is a California aqueduct, of more modern vintage than the LA Aqueduct, that connects NorCal water to SoCal.

And, there might be a diplomatic problem if we really started suctioning water out of Canada.

He's a fucking moron any way you slice it.

It's a little known but true geological fact that Peugeot Sound consists of a system of Fords, much as do similar sounds in Norway.

Americans are saying no to sex like never before — with young men leading the depressing trend

https://nypost.com/2025/01/23/lifestyle/sexlessness-on-the-rise-in-america-young-men-lead-the-trend/

I've noticed something on various Twitter and Reddit posts.  It's that Gen Z is now obsessed with "body count."  They think anything above 10 means you're whore or a porn star.  (This is even a plot line on the "Sex Lives of College Girl" on Max, which isn't a terrible show.)  Older people have pushed back saying numbers of 50-150 aren't terrible depending on age.  (It's fairly easy to average 5-10 per year and extrapolate that over time.)  I've trolled them and said if you're an adult man and are reasonably attractive and have decent people skills and at least an OK job, sex is easy to get.  They get visibly angry at this.

On one thread, some dude weighed in and said he was an attractive 59 year old, attractive doctor and regularly has sex with 4-5 women every month.  (If he's in a big city, that is believable.)

I've also noticed that the young women seem to have higher numbers than men, which is backed up by this stat in that link.  A lot more young women are having sex than young men.  That tells me the young men that are having sex are having sex with lots of girls and the incels are at 0.

A whopping 24% of males 22-34 had not had sex in 2022-2023 — up from 9% in 2013-15. For females, the number was 13%, up from 8%.

We need to accept that a substantive chunk of fellow citizens are, in fact, fascists.  The evidence is there. The rumors of rewards for turning in undocumented neighbors to ICE were false but they wished they were true. The most common complaint is that DJT is not authoritarian, retributive, or lawless enough.

I am serious when I say that you should treat Trump supporters in your life as potential Stasi informants and adjust your relationship accordingly.  They aren’t, now.  But they have shown they are willing to be.

Fascists if it’s “Christ centered” and they aren’t a target.

It's just nothing but hate and destruction. And we knew it was coming. Great job by the democrats of verbalizing what would happen in another Trump administration. I didn't have a lot of complaints at the time so I'm going to be a hypocrite here, but maybe the whole "they're so weird!" thing wasn't the best way to go about warning people about how Trump would purposefully destroy America and sell whatever is left for parts.

I am not into body count discourse, but to get to a number like 50-150 by averaging 5-10 sexual partners a year, that means you have likely never maintained a long-term monogamous relationship and are having a lot of one-night stands or are sleeping with multiple people at the same time.  That would be the red flag to me if I were looking for a monogamous relationship, not the “number.”  If you’re not, though, then go wild.

It’s also wildly higher than the average which I believe is something like 6 or 7 partners.

The average is 6 or 7 because you have a lot of 0's and 1's for various reasons.  (Also, people lie.)  Five in a year isn't a big deal.  That's basically one every other month.  That's just adulthood.  College is structurally engineered for people to hook up.

But 1/4 of men under the age of 35 haven't had sex at all in the past year.  That's astounding.  Getting sex is easy.

I agree that five in a year isn’t a big deal, but if you get to be almost 30 and have never had at least a year or 2 when it’s “only ” then I would absolutely question whether the person I’m seeing is capable of a monogamous relationship.  Especially if the answer to “did all the people you were sleeping with know you were sleeping with other people at the same time” is “no.”

They spelled out Project 2025 and no one fucking cared. Blame our shitass electorate who didn't bother to pay any attention because of Gaza or egg prices or the whole list of bullshit reasons they voted for that man who they already knew everything about. It's as if Covid never happened or any other crisis that happened from 2016-2020. January 6th didn't matter. Nothing fucking mattered. But oh boy it will now.

This.

This is the reason.

Thought there is no way, that it must be made up. But here we are.

https://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2025/jan/24/tennessee-republican-womens-group-takes-down/

Quote

After facing online scrutiny, the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women has taken steps to remove a reading list for children from its website that referenced Adolf Hitler as an example of leadership.

"Hitler and all intelligent leaders throughout history have understood that the way to change a country was through the training of its youth, to get them while they are young," the organization's reading list said.

On its website, the organization has a photograph of the Israeli flag and touts its support for the country. The organization's president, Sharon Boreing, did not return calls, voicemails or a text message from a reporter, but emailed a statement to a Chattanooga rabbi after he reached out about the list. "The document has been removed from our website because it inaccurately reflected our intentions," the statement said. "There is no doubt that Hitler was an evil man who led atrocities against humanity, and we must learn from this horrific time in history so that it is never repeated again.

"As we move forward, we will be more careful with our word choice and ensure the resources are presented with that important context."

Her statement did not include an apology. Also, the document remained online as of Friday evening at the group's internet domain, including the Hitler reference, although it was no longer linked from the group's public-facing web pages.

Michael Dzik, president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga, said that there is nothing positive to say about Hitler. "Any kind of use of Hitler's name really takes away from the gravity and the magnitude and the evil, really, of the Holocaust," Dzik said by phone. "So when people make that reference, there's really nothing to compare Hitler and that evil to anything else." Dzik said that any reference to Hitler is disappointing to see from any group or individual and that he would like to hear an explanation of why it was included in the list.

Oscar Brock, a Republican National Committee member from Chattanooga, spoke out against the reading list in a social media post. "I absolutely condemn the author(s) and publishers of this work from the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women," the post said. "This message of hate has no place in any Republican affiliated group, in Tennessee, or anywhere. Bravo to those Republican Women who've already condemned this."

Vicki Love, a local Republican and member of the Jewish community, said she was horrified to find out about the reference to Hitler. "I can't figure out at all what would have drawn someone to put that on there," Love said by phone.

Love, who supported President Donald Trump in the November election, said she would like to hear the president's thoughts on the list, citing that his daughter, Ivanka Trump, is Jewish. Craig Lewis, rabbi at Mizpah Congregation in Chattanooga, said that "get them while they're young" was the most disturbing part of the statement. "That was all about using propaganda and bullying to indoctrinate the youth of Germany," Lewis said by phone. He said that listing Hitler as the exemplar of intelligent leaders by which others will compare themselves was shocking. "If there was one thing that I thought we all agreed upon," Lewis said, "was that Hitler, as a leader, ultimately failed, that he was wrong and the source of evil, and is not someone to be emulated."

Lewis said it is horrific that anyone would want to implement the same tools used by Hitler.

"The women I know that are involved with all three clubs in Hamilton County affiliated with this state organization — the women I know best — all despise Hitler and what his Nazi party stood for, and find him to be a vile human being," said Mark Harrison, Hamilton County GOP chair, by phone.

Austin Center, a leader in the local Jewish community, said people are so far removed from history and the impact it has on a human level. "I think they use these things without even understanding what they're saying," Center said by phone. If people want to understand the history, Center said he is happy to give them a tour of the Children's Holocaust Memorial in Whitwell. He also mentioned an upcoming exhibit at the Jewish Cultural Center where visitors will be able to see artifacts such as the uniforms worn by prisoners in concentration camps.

The now-removed reading list, dated March 2024, was titled "Growing American Patriots Through Literacy." The books suggested included "Camilla Can Vote" coauthored by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and "A is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing Americans" by Lynne Cheney.

Blackburn's office has not responded to a request for comment.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Air Force has removed training courses with videos of its storied Tuskegee Airmen and the Women Airforce Service Pilots, or WASPs — the female World War II pilots who played a vital role in ferrying warplanes for the military — to comply with the Trump administration’s crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

No, the Dems aren't perfect but they are not why Trump won fucking Christ

The weakness of Democratic Party leadership played a big part in getting us here.  The Democratic Party doesn’t have much of a coherent agenda beyond “we will stop the Republicans from doing the bad things” and they have catastrophically failed at that agenda.

The last monumental policy win was passing a watered down republican healthcare plan 15 years ago and our healthcare system is still an overpriced racket. When you repeatedly don’t deliver, voters will look elsewhere or just give up on giving a shit.

I do not expect any self reflection or change in tune from the Democratic Party either.  They will double down on failed neoliberalism and pandering to people they continue to screw over.

Are the democrats responsible for Trump entirely? No, but they’ve repeatedly proven they are not part of the solution either.

Thing is, what have Republicans ever delivered?

Neither party has delivered effective or efficient government, or real help for the little guys.  But the realistic Republican record is far worse.

The truth is is that it begins and ends with messaging.

They tell their constituents that government is broken and then break it.  They deliver that over and over.
