I can't get over the fact that Trump seems to be pulling this off given his obviously limited intellect, which is likely compromised further by age.  I guess I always thought dictators were evil geniuses, but in reality it seems far more important for them to be able to garner the blind support of a significant fraction of the people and weaponize their fears.  That doesn't take smarts per se, it takes audacity and "charisma" (for lack of a better word).

Musk is no dummy, but is as much of an opportunist as he is a crafty thinker.  He seems to be Trump's Hermann Göring.  All dictators need a right hand man who will actually do the work.  Here we are.

Yup, musk is leading all the actual work. Trump just gets in front of the camera. Everyone wins except Americans

that’s not to say I expect republicans to just turn on Trump. I think we are in a devastating trap of populace having brain worms and the oligarchs can money whip if needed any elected official. I am too, but we had been recording her show and I decided to watch the latest.

Pitzker speech was her lead, he was good.

Polling is declining for him, over 90% of Americans don’t trust Putin, Trump does. That will impact him.

Some republicans are starting speak out - focused on Ukraine push back, people are protesting, and news papers all over the country including in rural-ish areas are blasting Trump based on headlines she showed.

Thanks.  Text group I'm in was discussing Pitzker this a.m.  Now I know why.  As for the rest, it all seems reasonable.  As the Zen Master said, "We'll see."

Great info source there, homeshank.  All presidents have staffs that assist them.

Ironic that you would talk about a 30 hour work week when your orange god has spent 29% of his second term on the golf course. https://trumpgolftrack.com/

Better golfing then napping. All the meanwhile doing exactly what he said he would do. Clear up the gender fiasco, begin to secure the southern border, expose government misappropriation of funds. Not saying I agree with any one thing more than the other but he’s done what his voters elected him for.

Exactly how is he clearing up the "gender fiasco,"  and what is it exactly?

What government "misappropriation of funds" are you talking about?

And what has he done to secure the southern border?

How about inflation and the price of gas?

Wow, eggs must be heavily weighted in the CPI calculation.  It was @ 2.4% in September and is currently @ 3.0%.  Damn the luck.

I thought the economy was the main thing his voters elected him for.

But in any case, fair enough. A certain percentage of his voters have to turn against him for much to happen.

That’s funny. We are prepared to stay in Texas for 3 years but know our signals, we’ve been preparing for loss of proper identification - avoid government interactions, how I would drive less or not at all, avoid police interaction, possibly move my residency, then researching states and countries to move too, making moves for early retirement, and all the while and this is probably THE most important …. My friends tell me I have a magical ability to “alchemize” events and circumstances from the negative to the positive so the problems I face become challenges not to overcome but opportunities to triumph. If I’m forced to leave we will live twice as legendary as if we stay. I don’t know how I do it, I just don’t have the innate ability to suffer the plight of a victim, and while there is some ableism in that statement even when I was severely sick, I worked my ass of to triumph through it. I guess the “what if?” line of questioning always leads me to opportunity. They circle the firing squad so to speak on me and my people, what if we went on an adventure? Instead of OMFG we are going to have to flee. And then I just ignore the negative what if’s… I do not think about what if I had more time to think about ordinary things, what if I was cisgender and could run for office, what if I was still a guy, how much money have I lost because I’m not a dude…. What if I get tossed in a men’s jail cell. Those thoughts are not ones I entertain. Instead what if we live on in the mountains of Mexico and wake up to the vibrant cool air, the slow pace of life and without the American soulless social media and for profit industry for everything bearing down on us? I could go on and on. There is a winning mindset in times like these. I lucked into it about the age of 5 in a train wreck or a family of origin. How I chose adaptive behaviors instead of maladaptive behaviors at such a young age? I don’t know, maybe Jesus really does love me.

Yet he fired the people trying to address that as a "misappropriation of funds".

But Trump made the price of eggs a big thing during the election, so seems reasonable enough to bitch about it.

How is firing thousands of employees working on things like air safety, cancer research, national park upkeep, etc. "exposing the misappropriation of gov funds?" These are congressionally authorized funds going to people doing important work that helps everyone. He's just willy nilly slashing jobs.

Just because you may personally believe that cancer is not worth combating, doesn't mean the funds have been misappropriated.

I guess we just needed a politician to make autocratic decrees to solve all problems. Ultimately we will see how this issue gets resolved. I don't think it is solved at this point though.

As for Biden, well I am generally against having major political leaders over 70. Call me ageist but I feel like this is a job for the middle aged. But I never voted for Biden except when he was going up against other 70 year olds.

I agree. I would love to hear the reasoning behind each cut that is made bc I do not agree with all of it. But tens of thousand of dollars to climate change in Sri Lanka is questionable.

It’s interesting, there seems to be the belief that the gender “war” has been won among my Republican friends.  They are ecstatic about the banning of men in women’s sports. The term tranny also seems to be making a comeback as well, so there’s a lot of gloating going on lately.

The reasoning is that they are trying to destroy as much of our government as they can, so they can say "See?? Government sucks. Only way to fix all this shit now is with a dictator."

Sure. A careful review of every expense and cutting things that are wasteful is a great thing. I am certainly all for any government audit. Particularly when a new administration takes over with different priorities.

But they are moving way too fast to be doing that. And being done by people without oversight by anybody and by a guy who only got his position because he bribed the President. Also one of the government's biggest contractors. Musk should have been approved by Congress and had divested himself from all government contracts before taking this role. And generally this needs to be done with Congress involved as they are supposed to ultimately decide how money is spent.

Basically the way it is being done couldn't be more corrupt. And it seems pointless as we should be working to eliminate the deficit and pay off the debt, yet it seems any savings will be washed away in another unaffordable and giant tax cut that will continue the death march of our government. I hope I am wrong on that one.

You're awfully blase about the president ignoring acts passed by both chambers and signed by the president. trumpo and elmo are illegally halting payment on programs that are THE LAW OF THE LAND.

Stop preemptively conceding to fascists that they might be right about something. Your attempts at finding common ground aren't going to help persuade them. They're fascists, they're not persuadable. All you're doing is telling anyone else reading that the fascists have a point about something.

This guy seems reasonable on some issues. Besides it feels productive to lay out my thoughts on these topics.

I agree on the age. If you haven’t stood out in your political career before becoming a senior citizen then maybe it wasn’t the job for you.
For the record: I have no problem with any person living their life the way they want to. But when it comes to legal documentation and representation in athletic events I think you should be grouped into the gender that you were genetically born into. I’m not trying to start any kind of shit. Just trying to add to the convo.
