taking over elections next, because musk said computers can't handle the task ....

Trump: "I did ask Elon because he knows more about computers than anybody I know. I said, what do you think of the voting system? He said, computers are not meant for voting. It's too many transactions taking place too quickly."

I agree. There is no way a computer can handle 150,000,000 transactions.

Wait…checks my iPhone. It handles 35 trillion operations per second. Better put that back in my pocket.

Either Elon knows absolutely nothing about computing, or he just knows he can spout complete bullshit like this and get away with it and that amuses his spectrum-y little 12-year-old personality.

Didn't you see that Raizin Cane is a successful entrepenuer?   He's going pay for the all of those expensive toys that the military needs by hawking Trump's shitty sneakers and NFTs.

I've been saying for well over a decade that the impetus behind this rise of the far right is white American terror about being replaced as the majority, and I was hardly the first.  I got all kinds of pushback.  Hmmm.

Motherfucker cannot stop lying.  Caine was promoted to LTG in October 2021 on Biden's nomination.

There's nothing obvious in his background that makes him a hack.  Bit light on combat command.  He is a chair force guy, so probably fundagelical, although he attended VMI not USAFA.

We are in the era of anti-empathy. And I don’t mean that empathy ain’t valued; it’s seen as an EVIL trait that must be crushed (that’s all being “woke” is, BTW - being aware of other people’s lived experiences).
Empathy is evil, and must be stamped out and crushed.
It’s beyond fucked up. It’s how you get to “the cruelty is the point.”

Over the last few years the concept of "empathy is a sin" has taken hold in Christianity. It's pretty wild to see the concept take hold as a sin in a religion that used to be consider it a virtue.

To be fair, looks like he was an ANG commander and IP, rather than like Hegseth.

I go to a church that focuses on God, our relationship with God, and spreading the good word. The pastors acknowledge division in the country, but otherwise does NOT talk about politics.

When I read shit like that in the previous post, I see why people fucking hate Christians.

I have to tell ya…I struggle with churches that don’t believe they have an obligation to pursue social holiness as well as personal piety.

Why can’t we be more like Brazil? From the BBC:

Brazil's chief prosecutor has accused former President Jair Bolsonaro of leading an attempted coup after the ex-leader was defeated by his left-wing rival in the 2022 presidential election.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged plot aimed to prevent Bolsonaro's successor in office, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, from taking office and included a plan to poison Lula.

Bolsonaro, 69, denies any wrongdoing and says he is the victim of a political witch hunt.

It is now up to Brazil's Supreme Court to decide whether to accept the prosecutor's charges and put Bolsonaro and 33 others accused on trial.

“No President – Republican or Democrat – can withhold Federal funding authorized and appropriated by Congress and paid for by Maine taxpayers in an attempt to coerce someone into compliance with his will. It is a violation of our Constitution and of our laws, which I took an oath to uphold. Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by his Administration, but we won’t be the last. Today, the President of the United States has targeted one particular group on one particular issue which Maine law has addressed. But you must ask yourself: who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you? Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end? In America, the President is neither a King nor a dictator, as much as this one tries to act like it – and it is the rule of law that prevents him from being so.

We need more people like this.

Hey man if they are going to tank the economy, I would rather they not keep putting us in charge to deal with it.

I believe it is and she probably knows this regardless.  Still, it is relatively uncommon for a federal judge to take an "independent" stance on scientific or technical issues before them.

In most senses, this is a product of the adversarial system in which the facts are those produced by the parties in evidence before the court.  Like juries are discouraged/forbidden from independently researching a case, so too do federal judges tend to avoid extrajudicial knowledge.

The rules don't forbid it for judges and federal judges in particular have more freedom to do it and to comment on it in court, even before a jury.

There's a judge in San Francisco/San Jose with a degree in math that is an amateur computer scientist who presided over Google v. Oracle and was openly independent and skeptical of some of the assertions of the parties there based on his own knowledge.

More typical, though, is Chief Judge David Godbey of the ND Tex in Dallas, who has a BSEE but feigns not knowing what a transistor does.

Csb David lives down the street from me and our wives are close friends.
