Tip - for long layovers in fantastic european towns (Madrid is one for sure), take the train into the city.  I had an 18 hour layover last year in Amsterdam and saw 2 museums and got incredibly high.  In Madrid, you could have some great tapas and drink enough vermouth or sangria to make your cares go away...

Istanbul is great for long layovers because if you have one, Turkish Air will give you a short free tour and meal.  Hit or miss on what you see (Hagia Sophia is incredible but the porcelain factory less so). The meal is a standard, good kabob and salad. You don’t have to be ticketed on Turkish.

You know how I'm always going on about my sheer amazement at how fucking stupid Tommy Tuberville is? Yeah, welp. Here's exhibit #eleventy bazillion and 49:

Tuberville forgets triangles exist while advocating for Pentagon cuts: ‘We need to make a trigon’. “Pete Hegseth has welcomed DOGE to come into the military. We need to start in the Pentagon. We need to make a trigon -- three sides -- instead of five sides in the Pentagon”.   https://www.al.com/politics/2025/02/tuberville-forgets-triangles-exist-while-advocating-for-pentagon-cuts-we-need-to-make-a-trigon.html

That works great if you know how long your layover is.  ATC strike of unknown duration?  Ain't nobody leaving the airport.

The Epestein reveal debacle is a source of endless amusement to me, but it’s also been a theme of mine that we reached the event horizon of scams in America.  I love seeing MAGA get rugpulled, endlessly cycling through memecoin crashes. But we built a country where almost everything is fake, grasping, and gilded and it didn’t breed immunity to getting scammed.  It overwhelmed antibodies and made it so we don’t know how to do collectively do anything else.

I'd say it's more the sickness of our fucked up markets finally metastasizing and impacting our political process. Ultimately, a major factor in voting trump was the presumption of it making you personally a boatload of money. Now, those idiots did get scammed as you describe, but they are suckers for that bait

"How far we get" has nothing to do with convincing Ana not to be a disingenuous asshole.  You might as well try to force the sun to rise in the west.  Rather, "how far we get" relates to how we communicate with the audience of Ana and folks like him.  Counter-programming and such.

How many years is it going to take before you realize you’re wasting your time? You’re operating at cross-purposes. If he was attempting to engage in honest, thoughtful, rational discourse then you might have a point. But he’s not. He’s intellectually dishonest. He’s an impulsive contrarian who gets off on the attention from being a fly in the ointment. And he’s not half as smart as he thinks he is if you haven’t caught on to that yet.

I put him on ignore back when he was parroting Trump’s “collusion delusion” catchphrase, that was around 8 years ago now. I’ve got him figured out. Nothing I’ve seen in the years of other people quoting him has revealed anything new to me. He is now exactly who I thought he was then.

He’s a troll. He adds nothing to the conversation other than disruption and distraction. By engaging with him you reward him and help him disrupt and distract. Are you surprised by anything he says? Or does he say exactly what you’d expect him to say because you’ve got him figured out and have for a long time?

It is nice, but if you are heading back to the US and going through Istanbul, and Trump puts back on his Muslim ban, it fucking blows cause you get to go through security 3 times.
