What world are you living in? You keep acting like rules and norms mean something anymore.

Nothing about my post indicates that rules or norms mean anything.  Quite the opposite, it assumes thunderdome.  A thunderdome where Trump is out of the picture sooner rather than later.  GOP is going to have to find other ways to cling to power.  How will they do it?

I think short term, they continue to kowtow to him out of fear of some form of retribution.  Longer term, I'm not so sure.

Ok.

Also I think it's important for Trump supporters to see how this plays out today and coming days.

- Kamala will concede

- Outside of the fringe, no one is going to say the election is rigged

- You will see a lot of sadness, not violence.

I hope they absorb this and reflect, however unlikely.

It won’t matter. These are despicable people. They’ve been telling you this for years. Start believing them.

I know I’m stating the obvious: this is who America is. We were always a fundamentally center right country, and we are moving further right.  This isn’t a bunch of dumb people who got tricked into a second Trump term. The country does not agree with the Democratic Party.

He won a landslide. This is about as close to the 1932 election in reverse as you are likely to get. The Democrats need to look at who they are.

Agree 100 percent.  It was also a pocket book election.  People feel poorer than they were.  It doesn’t really matter why, they blame the person in charge.  I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that.

It’s really a handful of tech billionaires that want to play god with all their money.  Vance and Trump are just stooges, the next guy will be too.  It’s the Christian nationalists that worry me because the only thing at the end of their road is a bunch of dead people. It’s like one of the biggest cautionary tales in history.

The issue is that Trump gives them what they want because they flatter him. Vance gives them what they want because he’s one of them and a true believer.

There’s a big difference.

Oh, goody. Maybe our center left party can move further right. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Sweet. Glad to see that the stock market being up matters again.

I don't imagine we'll have to wait long to see the GOP reminding us that our inflation is actually pretty low compared to the rest of the world.

I was going to rage rep this, but I’m done. This is the reality. We all just have to wake up to it. This decade long nightmare is going to continue. Forever.

Biden gave the left about as much as he could within the constraints of our governing system.  But I look forward to hearing Bernie and Warren telling us that Scandanavian style socialism is what will cure the party’s electoral ills.

I don't think there is any need to move left or right.  Or any concern if there is a slight move left or right.

Dems lost this election because Biden did a shitty job of actual efforts on the border and marketing those efforts.  He and Harris also did a shitty job of explaining the inflationary effects of the infrastructure bill and how we overshot the mark but were doing it to protect jobs.

But mostly just the world economy and higher prices over the last four years.

Covid giveth the Dems a victory and Covid taketh away.

I woke up at 430 this morning and opened my phone to a result I already knew. I've been through a gamut of emotions since then including anger, disgust, and condescension. 3 hours later I've come to the conclusion I'm going to continue to help and fight the good fight. I think we will be ok. Inflation was the driver and I don't think we are ready as a country for certain things....like equality. Hopefully soon.

It’s clear to me that the GOP and Democratic Party operate by a different set of rules. I’ve accepted a while back that Dems are always gonna be the party that wins when the republicans fuck up or at least perceived to fuck up.

I literally watched the Democratic Party run Howard Dean clear out of the primary race for getting too excited on stage during a rally and going on to lose the election with John Kerry to a C avg student from Yale. Dems are the cleanup crew and I just don’t see that changing. The only positive is Dems will absolutely win in 2028 regardless of who they put forward because the orange baboon will absolutely hammer us for four years

lol that you think there will be a meaningful vote in four years.

Remember every accusation being a confession? It’s going to be rigged as hell.

We voted for our authoritarianism, we will have to shoot our way out of it. That’s what history teaches.

12 year olds shouldn't have to feel this way about a goddamned presidential election, but here we are.

This was my original conclusion, although I’ve inadvertently let myself get away from it.

Look around the map: Democratic candidates of all types were trounced last night. Much like the rest of the world, this is a bad time for the party in power. 2008 Obama would have lost last night.

I had to tell my son not to get into it with anyone on the bus this morning.

How do I teach him to be ethical and moral, to treat people with respect and dignity regardless of race, gender, etc., when the president of the United States calls people who act that way suckers and is just a mean person? Lesson: shitty people win?

I'm aligned with Mr. Fuck.

It was nice to feel happy and hopeful for a few months. It's not uncommon at all for me to be wrong in a political prediction.

When a nation tells you who they are, believe them.  Hateful, fearful, racist "Christian" nationalists who chose an anti-moral would-be totalitarian to lead them.

The belief that the US would spit Trump out made the first term amusing as well as maddening. It won't be amusing this go 'round.

What is bitterly interesting is observing so many here talking about issues like inflation, Dem mistakes with voters, and other issues. That's old paradigm. This was a conquest not a rational debate.

Checkmate.

That in and of itself brings on this sense of hopelessness I have this morning.

There was hope that with defeat, the GOP would be able to move on from Trumpism and maybe move a different direction. Yeah, nope.

Trump may have a Senate, House, and SC and more than half the voters supporting his plan. Hopeless, that’s what I see for the future. My oldest daughter is already exploring semester abroad programs, she will likely look further at more permanent solutions.

The American electorate is stupid and hateful. See @Frank Drebin and @Balcones in this thread.
