Trump’s America

The military not being beholden to the President might actually come to a head. Leaders of the military might stand up to Trump at some point. They swear their oath to the constitution. Start bullshit treason stuff against military folks and that might not go well.

This is going to be a shit show.

Wait wut?  The withdrawal that he blamed on Biden?

It's a pretext to fuck over Milley.

I realize the legal system may be precarious at this point, but I'm hoping it holds long enough to keep these fuckers at bay.

And, there's that damn pesky definition of treason coming to the rescue again.

Also UCMJ does not contain a crime of treason.  It has mutiny for rebellion against military authority and sedition for civil authority.  Neither of which would apply here.

“May?”

It’s still sending poor non-violent offenders to prison for long stretches, and doing nothing* to set them on a better path after release so it’s still working as intended.

*Well, they do wring as much money out of they families through privatized phone services and commissary sales of luxuries like soap and toothbrushes, so they are learning that corporations are their masters and that trying to better themselves is likely futile, so they do get a better real world education than their crumbling public school could manage.

That's the status quo ante.  And that's not the legal system, that's more at the feet of the legislative branch.

And, like it or not, the legal system was working as intended w/r/to Trump.  Those pesky due process things SHOULD work just fine for the actually innocent who are suffering political prosecution.

This board is going to become big fans of official immunity and motions to dismiss indictments as politically motivated.

One thing we have learned (and lawdogs already knew) is that the system is slow.  It's not just Trump that can drag things out.

So, one might expect any cases brought to linger out well past the midterms and very likely until the end of Trump's term.  This will apply to political persecutions as well as other things.

The "inefficiency" or deliberativeness of American government and justice is likely to make things rather difficult for Trump and his sycophants, at least in the early going.

You actually don't have to spend that much money to invoke your rights and delay the system.  Most especially when your assertions of rights have merit.

Where it gets expensive is when your assertions are mostly utter bullshit and you have to assert every single one, no matter how farfetched or trivial.

Or they may just resign from the military. Which is the likely goal - make sure all the leaders are loyal to the fascists.

Even still.  Criminal venue is narrow.  It's going to be hard/impossible to venue any of these cases in Amarillo or Fort Pierce.  It takes time to get to the Supreme Court, no matter what.

The shoe is about to be on the other foot.

Exactly. The majesty of our legal system is that any very rich and powerful person can act with impunity.

If only there were some sort of professional association that could oversee and weed out unethical legal practitioners before they were appointed to the bench.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm openly antagnostic to the middle class, have been for a long time. They have enabled the rise of people like Elon Musk while keeping poor Americans poorer.

Interestingly enough when you use descriptives of who you are thinking of in terms of these voting blocks, you never describe middle class people.

This you?

I don't know that a conviction of any single individual is the end goal as much as using the government to attack them, harm them mentally, and drive them towards bankruptcy due to attorney fees, plus the resulting silence or acquiescence from the public who'd want to avoid that type of retribution.

Yeah, the rap/ride problem persists.  This guy thinks Biden ought to pardon them all. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/11/presidential-pardon-trump-critics/680627/

Price gouging is a hell of a thing, man

I see price gouging in grocery stores here that is just incredible. 18 dollars for a frozen pizza just makes me laugh. I can go to a chain pizza place and get two pizzas cheaper than that.

He also thrives on conflict and on inflicting persistent unease on the American public.  Dragging out cases and engaging in a constant drip of successes versus setbacks in a long-running war against internal “enemies” deflects from what will be a complete failure to actually deliver anything and allows him to continue to posture as the outsider eternally in conflict with ever shifting deep staters and globalists.  It will look a lot like Orban or Erdogan than Putin.

I am a very ardent supporter of the people in our military. I believe they take that oath they took to the Constitution seriously. Push comes to shove I am of the belief that our military will tell him to kick rocks on harming American citizens. For me the historical perspective comes from looking at how the Japanese were sworn to protect the Emperor. Not the people, but the Emperor and their honor first. It was not an oath to a document of ideas for the country. It was an oath to defend their Emperor to their very last breath and then it was off to Yasukuni Shrine.

See I think liberals need to kind of shut up about this IMO.

1.) He can unilaterally institute sanctions. So he’s going to do it

2.) Inflation now helps Dems. So just let him tank the economy. He’ll blame everyone else but he controls all levers of government. Maybe some political gravity still holds true.
3.) If we say inflation will run rampant and we miss even by a 1/2% then we look dumb.

Im of the mind to let Trump run the car in the ditch and just have a message to those getting out of the car holding their heads while dazed and confused.

Youre not going to get America to slow down to stop their joyride with Dotard and his band of grifters.

Best to channel your energy on the day after.

Yeah, so...I guess this is all about sending a message: "Learn to acquiesce or else."

The next time a pollster shows results that make him or his policies look unpopular with the American public, they'd better think twice. Dear Leader can't let Americans know if other Americans think he's doing a shitty job. Besides that, his ego needs good headlines.
