In know that pain all too well.

Growing up without a lot of money, there were many a tIme I was forced to take that long walk back to the apple refrigerator at the grocery store to return 1/3 of my apples.

I just wish that grocery stores would not try to hide their prices until you got to the check out line.
They should place clear $ per fruit or $/ lb of fruit directly on each individual fruit fridge.
When will we learn, people?
When will we stop the indignity that is grocery shopping?!

the same, i told my butler to stop boring me with his stories and cut up my apple asap

What grocery store keeps apples in a refrigerator?

She must of been shopping at the market store in the lobby of the St. Regis on 5th Ave.  That store was an apple refrigerator chilled to a perfect 37 degrees for maximum flavor. The also have a produce butler and a Sommelier.  Poor lady had to return to her 2k/night room without all apples than she wanted.

Fuck it. Bring back smallpox. Ban chlorine from drinking water treatment. Fuck it all.

Hey where's my MPGA hat? No worries. Surely Trump will be hawking them in ads soon.

Yeah I remember when my Uncle Benton and his identical twin brother Clinton would come to my grandmother's house in Tennessee over the Holidays. The only way us kids could tell them apart was Benton being barely able to walk at all on his horribly misshapen left leg. It was from the bout he had with polio as a kid, but whenever us kids would ask our parents about it they would always try to change the subject because they didn't want us to have to worry about something that wasn't going to affect our future health. Welp, so much for that going forward, I guess ...

At this point, we are at best a few weeks away from "treated drinking water is woke."

I am only about 25% kidding with that prediction.

I don’t care if we want the sun up later in the evening but doing away with day light saving will have the sun not rising until 9am and even 10am in some places. The further west you are in the time zone, the worst you will see it. Any law will not change the number of daylight hours.

its what the people say they want so let them have it. Guarantee some will complain that they wanted a 12 hour daylight and why didn’t Congress deliver it,

Congress had voted on December 14, 1973, to put the US on daylight saving time for two years. President Nixon signed the bill the next day. The US had gone to permanent daylight saving time before, during World War II. Then, too, the measure was enacted to save fuel. Permanent DST wasn’t close to the wackiest idea about time floating around—Paul Mullinax, a geographer who worked at the Pentagon, came up with the idea of putting the continental US on a single time zone. “USA Time” would apply from Bangor to Barstow, eliminate jet lag, and standardize TV schedules. His idea even got traction in Congress, via a bill from US Representative Patsy Mink of Hawaii. “The human being is a very adaptive animal,” he said. “There is no reason we have to be a slave to the sun.”

Quote

By August, though, as the Watergate scandal caused the Nixon administration to crumble, the country was ready to move on from its clock experiments. While 79 percent of Americans approved of the change in December 1973, approval had dropped to 42 percent three months later, the New York Times reported. Seven days after President Nixon resigned, US Senator Bob Dole of Kansas introduced an amendment in August that would end the DST experiment. It passed. A similar bill passed the House. In late September, the full Congress passed a bill that would restore standard time on October 27. President Ford signed it on October 5. Energy savings, a House panel noted, “must be balanced against a majority of the public’s distaste for the observance of Daylight Saving Time.”

I thought the plan was the opposite. We would keep the summer clock year round. People don’t want the sun setting before 6 in the winter months.

Ma will be tending the garden and chickens. I reckon that'll be the only way some people will have food to eat.

I'm willing to bet there were Germans who died in the 1960s and lost their sons on the Eastern Front who still loved Hitler.  Makes me wonder how much pain it will take to break the fever.

What's not clear is whether they want to completely get rid of DST, i.e. stick with standard winter time year-round with the sun going down an hour earlier in the summer than it does now, or just go to DST year round (which is what Trump seems to prefer), which would keep summer DST year round, giving us a later winter sunset than now. Personally, I'm in the latter group, which is where I think most people are. I think most people think that our later sunset in the summer is standard and DST is in the winter. It's winter time that's standard.

Most US states change their clocks forward in March and back in November, attempting to balance the amount of sunlight people receive on a given day. Some advocates for change support a permanent standard time, keeping the clocks as they are from November to March year-round. This would lead to parts of the country experiencing earlier sunrises and sunsets than they usually do during those five months – leaving more light in the morning and less in the evening. This approach is supported by medical groups and professionals who say it most closely aligns with the body’s natural circadian rhythm.

Others advocate for a permanent Daylight Saving Time. The sun would rise and set later, giving people less daylight in the morning and more in the evening. This approach is often supported by retail, business and restaurant groups and organizations that want people to have enough daylight left after work or school to be out and about and participating in the economy, and by those who say more daylight in the evening could reduce crime.

From a public health standpoint, standard time is the right answer.  The sun needs to go down and people need to get their asses to sleep.  Also right now if we were on DST the sun would be coming up in Texas at almost 8:30 in the morning....people need the sun to wake their asses up.

Sounds like a problem if America or at least Trump can’t agree on which time is better. Do we just default that he gets to make the decision? Populism-authoritarianism at its best.

I’ve honestly never looked into this and thought radical conservatives just want to get rid of it because they are dumb as fuck and think everything is government overreach

The West Coast states (and British Columbia, should it go into effect in WA, OR, and CA) all adopted permanent daylight saving time 5 or so years ago. However, Congress must approve any changes to observance of standard time and they've not acted one way or another on it.

Ending DST is possible by state action, so any state could be on solely standard time; HI, AZ and parts of IN I believe do this already. A bill to put WA on permanent standard time was introduced in the WA legislature this year but it did not get out of committee.

Getting rid of DST is healthier for people. Our circadian rhythms get fucked up with such late sunsets and sunrises leading to a lot of health issues

Perhaps NASA can come up with a plan to straighten the earth to keep consistent sun rises and sun sets.😀

The guy,DeJoy?,  in charge of the USPS has been an advocate of getting rid of the usps. He's a Trump appointee that Biden could t get rid of because the senate stopped Biden from filling open usps governor roles. The usps has undergone many structural changes under DeJoy which doesn’t seem to have improved the service. You have to wonder if this has been a slow plan to privatize them and instead outsource mail carrying to ups or fedex.

one thing that might stop Trump is that many gop senators and reps are wary of changing if not eliminating the usps. Rural citizens depend more on the usps than urban. Personally I find it amazing that I can hand a mail carrier a letter and they will effectively hand deliver to someone across the county for 60 cents within a few days. FedEx something and you’re paying a helluva lot more.
