Buttigieg ran for DNC chair in 2017. Since he'll be out of a government job soon, I'd love to see him run again if he's up for it.

This is an interview he did after running in 2017, and I think he understands the bigger picture more than anyone else high up in the party.  I highly recommend watching.

I'm not sure I put this on the party, either.  It's not the party's fault Biden is as old as the hills but wanted to run again.  I'm very confident that Harris did better than Biden would have.

I suspect this was all about woman + inflation + immigration, right or wrong.  I suppose one could make the argument that Harris wasn't the best choice, but she was clearly better than Biden.

I'm telling y'all, watch that Buttigieg video when you have time. There is not a better mind in the Democratic Party, he is a generational political figure and needs to be most influential member of the party now. What he said in this interview 7.5 years ago resonates even more today.

He's my favorite Democrat and would love to see him exalted within the party like you say, but I also feel like he'd be a bad nominee. I don't see this bigoted-ass country electing a gay man president anytime soon. I truly believe a significant hurdle for Harris was that for many people, a woman (especially a brown one) doesn't match their mental model of a president. Homosexuality would pose the same problem, even though most people are tolerant of lgbtq these days.

I'm not really talking about his as Presidential nominee in this thread. Just being a very influential voice for the strategy and future of the Democratic Party.

You and others that have mentioned it are most likely correct that it's too risky for him to be a Presidential candidate, but if there is one gay man that can overcome that "issue" for voters, it's Pete.

Something like 45% of people said they were "worse off" than four years ago. Inflation hit people hard. It's the biggest reason Trump won.

It doesn't matter what the macro numbers say - if you feel worse off then it doesn't matter.

Add to this a few other issues that run deep in the Hispanic community.

1- Their idea of economy is different. The average dude does not have a stock portfolio.

2- The Catholic church. even if they do not attend, it is part of their culture.

3- LatinX. Most I hang out with hate it.

4- They give zero fucks about Taylor Swift and Clooney.

This. Don’t forget machismo. Trump won heavily hispanic Cameron County, however hardcore Trumper Mayra Flores lost to her Democrat opponent Vicente Gonzalez in that congressional district. At the end of the day she’s still just a woman that talks a lot.

This is every household of every race. And has been for all time. But some men get embarrassed about that and have to show they are “real men” for some reason. Then you get to where we are.

You should look into how elections are conducted and how much of it is based on each state's desire to participate.

Tell me I'm wrong, then do some googling.

Then come back and quote my post and add some frantic, unhinged sounding text about how we just had our last election.

(the fact that I googled that ^^ + bill clements and got no results amazes me).

I agree. Look I am all for being disappointed in what this election says about the country.

But obviously a new direction is needed in the Democratic Party. We need to sweep away the old leadership and have new ideas to show the electorate. Putting Pete in charge and having a youth movement makes good sense to me.

Pete is still tied to Biden because he was in the Cabinet. Dems need to get their own billionaire TV star like Mark Cuban because people are just getting dumber.

Yeah but most people have no idea who the DNC chair is. Cuban or whomever would be the one running for office.

What are we supposed to fucking do? Become Nazi Lite? At a certain point you have to stand for decency and reason.

The Dems’ demise (and the country’s) originated in decisions made decades ago to shift right and abandon the working class. At this point those people are lost. But it doesn’t benefit anyone for the Dems to shift to the right again.

But this is all moot. We’re just rearranging deck chairs. Votes and platforms and appeal to voters and shit are all irrelevant going forward. Welcome to the single party US.

I'd like someone from the DNC to explain voter turnout.   2020 killed this one in numbers.  How did Harris get over 10,000,000 fewer votes than Biden did in 2020?  They didn't go to Trump.  He didn't top his 2020 number either.

IMO (a meaningless one I know)... is in large part because no one had vested interest in Harris.  No one voted for her to be their candidate. Then she tried to distance herself from Biden and his policy yet also try and run on it. Biden wasn't out campaigning for her so how is the average democrat voter supposed to get energized about her candidacy when it was clear even he wasn't.  You were going out to vote against Trump and what he stood for.  While a great reason, she originally sold her campaign on moving forward past Trump, being positive, talking hope but them in past month went all in on negativity and anti-Trump.  She did a lot given her extremely late start and how she came into being the nominee, but the entire campaign was a bungled messaging mess.

And it was during a pandemic. I had to make a 20 mile round trip just to drop off my ballet in 2020.

It's only the economy. It always is.  All the other issues are just noise to the working class. Their world view doesn't extend much past their town, family, and job.  They may have an opinion about another issue but it's not driving them to vote.  Their view of the economy is limited to their purchasing power.  High interest rates and inflation negatively affect their purchasing power.  20+% gains every year in the stock market is irrelevant to them.  They don't own stock or have significant retirement savings in the market.

If you get the economic messaging right, you can say whatever the fuck you want about any other issue and you will get the working class.

Quite literally a bunch of people are saying that the democrats were not left enough, the others are saying they are too far left. There's no answer, the people of America are complete morons, there's no strategy to appeal to idiots without going into full trumpism yourself.
