free flow thoughts below trying to touch on your items.  And for the eleventy billionth time I’m not a Trump supporter, but am certainly right of the baseline CR occupant.

I expect the TCJA gets renewed and perhaps expanded(50/50)

I expect a significant decrease in regulatory state and regulation.

I expect illegal immigration will be significantly decreased.  More wall built

I suspect the IRA gets carved up significantly

I think Chips stays as is

I think tariffs will be targeted, but probably with a lot of bluster

I don’t have a clue if Ocare gets any attempt at replacing/repeal.  At this point Ocare is what exactly…marketplace, pre-existing conditions and employer mandate.  Maybe they go back to not enforcing employer mandate?

No way Trump goes for abortion ban.(we obviously need to define ban here). Maybe the house will be crazy enough to waste a bunch of effort on something (is a trifecta certain at this point?)

I pray the Ukraine war can be ended with maintaining Ukraine sovereignty/security. I don’t know how that could work out but don’t believe for a second it ends up with Putin getting a sweetheart deal.  I’m sure if a peace was agreed to tomorrow and Putin keeps a square millimeter of Ukraine there will be non-stop Putin Puppet nonsense.

I really don't know why you try to shake the Trump thing so hard when you've pretty consistently toed the line but whatever you say man. Coping some questions from the other thread:

Broad extension of the TCJA? Permanent or extending out to 2029 or something?

This is kind of vague. Are you saying we should expect a pretty standard GOP deregulation agenda of just generally shifting the sliding scale toward business interest? Or do you expect a more significant gutting of the federal government along the lines of major headcount reduction, agency elimination, partisan purge, etc?

Illegal border crossings are already relatively low - below 2019 figures, actually. Are you saying you expect exec action to reduce them further? If so, how? Is family separation back on the table? Do they pass the bill from earlier this year? What about deportations? RE: wall - Define this. Are we talking an actual wall from San Diego to Brownsville? Portions that have been authorized or started to date?

Obviously a big law - high level, what should we stays/goes from the IRA?

Fair to say you don't think tariffs will be broad enough and/or big enough to have an inflationary impact at a macro level?

Well, the Trump campaign has mentioned wanting to repeal (admittedly I believe this to simply be a tactic to rile up the base with no intention of real action). So the burden is on them and the GOP to tell us what they're talking about. They haven't. That's why I'm asking what to expect. There's plenty to go after - preexisting conditions, out of pocket max, eliminated annual lifetime maxes, covered essential services, employer mandate, premium subsidies, cost sharing, expanded Medicaid, etc etc.

I think it would be a pretty big surprise if Democrats won the House at this point. The House probably ends up within a couple seats in either direction of where it is now; which is to say slim, unruly GOP majority. I'd define an abortion ban as any law imposing a more restrictive limit than existed under Roe v Wade. I don't think such a thing would get through Congress but the Trump campaign and GOP have talked out of both sides of their mouth on the issue, similar to the ACA, so I'm asking what to expect. Do they go after abortion rights? Do they go after any other civil liberties - contraception/birth control, same sex marriage, etc?

What would it take for you to consider a hypothetical ceasefire/peace agreement in Ukraine to be a sweetheart deal for Putin? What's a reasonable expectation of a peace agreement? Do you think we should expect US involvement in Ukrainian reconstruction efforts?

What about the Israel-Gaza conflict? Will there be any notable difference between Trump and Biden with regard to that? What if Israel makes a larger offensive push into Lebanon?

Quickley until the house is settled it’s impossible to put any detail into what can and can’t be done.  Then even if R control we have to see if R’s are going to want to waste a pile of political capital on a speaker fight

The mob mentality of the far-left purposely pushed most people of the board for sharing a different opinion. When a person gets a handful of middle fingers every time they post, it’s not exactly considered an open forum, but more of a club of assholes who only want to bitch amongst themselves, not engage.

Remember when that fucking orange shitstain said "who knew that Lincoln was a Republican"?    Because I remember

The mob mentality of the far left on a board comprised largely of former Bush-McCain-Romney voters in the suburbs of Dallas, Houston, and Austin lol.

Yeah fair enough. Consensus is Republicans will have a slim majority, but I suppose that's not Facebook official yet.

Laugh all you want, but in reference to the board makeup, it is what it is.

Also, one would think this would make this group more understanding of opposing opinions.

I can't speak to your experiences, only give my own observations. There's certainly some on the left that will be jerks, but there's some on the right too, as you can see with the dickheads that came out of the woodwork this week. But you can’t consider a handful to represent the masses, on either side. Well, you can if you want I guess, but you will never have a space for discussion if you do. You have to tune out the extreme yourself.

Typically the only people I see get piled on here are the ones that come in with half baked unsupported ideas. That's not to say you won't get push back on any given idea, but if that's what you are looking to avoid, that's a plea for a safe space, not a discussion.

At any rate, I hope you stick around and participate.

Thats great and all, but the fact is even push back on eliminating the filibuster is met with neg bombing.  I’ve repeatedly made the argument that any party that did that would regret it deeply in short order as there is no way either party is pushed into oblivion forever.  Nope thats the talk of a Nazi, Fascist, Orange God Worshiper.

Many of us are happy to discuss opinions and policy positions.  Most especially when they're not presented on the basis of factually inaccurate social media or similar sources.

Before this notion of truce, Stros101 came in and said a few things in earnest.  He was questioned about the factual basis for them, quite civilly and failed to respond once the premises of his "opinions" were laid bare.

He failed to respond to most of those pointing out the errors in his assumptions and basically began flinging poo.  Poo was flung back.

There was a long thread in CR hashing out immigration, which is a hot-button issue upon which reasonable minds may differ.  It petered out because everything that could be said had been said.

There are a few posters that bypass the debate pretty much entirely, though and start flinging personal insults immediately.

The animal_tobacco guy came in and tried to express contrary opinions, debated with people, but ultimately, most of his policy positions, when reduced to bare bones, amounted to some variation of "I've got mine, screw everyone else."

Which middle-of-the-road social issues would you like to discuss? Which ones have you attempted to talk with the board about before? How was your experience?

It's kind of tough to respond without any specifics.

I’m not looking for specifics right now. Someone should be able to step into any conversation with an opposing viewpoint without being run out of the building. It’s a discussion board. Most people in the forum don’t want to hear other people’s thoughts anymore. They want to hear support for theirs or nothing at all.

Then, by all means, take a stance. Say something more than just a vague complaint about the behavior of other posters. You claim to be a middle-of-the-road guy. If that's true, then you should fit in fine.

The OP created this thread specifically to discuss issues without the name-calling.

I sense this is probably not gonna work out, but wanted to try to start a discussion thread about our overall politics, culture, issues, and the upcoming Trump term in good faith. If others are open to it, let's avoid the hysterics, name calling, and overly judgmental rhetoric to discuss issues and news as liberals/conservatives/none of the above, Trump or anti-Trump supporters.  Maybe something good will come out of it, even if it's just in this community.

I am not a Democrat. I tend to vote very heavy towards Democrats in this landscape. I hate the two party system. I have a set of personal values, and that dictates my positions, not party lines. I admit that the result of this election saddens me, but it's a relief that it was a clear and indisputable decision. The people have spoken. I think that opens the door to clear minds and introspection.

I think we can all agree that we live in troubling times as a society and the future is very hazy. Can't depend on government and politicians to figure it out. It's on us.

No trolling. If you have a strong position, present it. We can argue. Let's be patient with each other and not run off posters. I will genuinely listen and process and be thoughtful with replies. Join me.

Go for it. What do you want to talk about?

You’re dead wrong.

Cloakroom prior to 16’ Trump was arguments and discussion.  The leftists neg bombed all dissent off the board.

The Israel thread is left on left violence just like with real life protests.  The pro-Palestine protestors don’t show up at Trump rallies, they show up at Kamala events and The Jimmy Kimmel show.

This is another instance where repeating a story does not magically transmute it into truth. What do you mean "violence" in a thread? Y'all craft these wild and rhetorically juicy narratives in your head and repeat them to each other, and then get bigmad when you get fact checked

Or maybe, I came into the CR to check the temperature, found a thread about a truce, and was caught of guard by an implication that maybe there wasn't a problem letting people speak up, and decided to quickly counter that with an outside opinion. I didn't come in here to have a discussion about social issues right now. Frankly, I'd like a break from that. My point was, if someone with a varying opinion wants to speak up, they should be able with out getting the middle finger from half the board.

This is a problem from many republicans and democrats. They cannot have civil discussions about political topics with the opposing side. Instead they believe the media, regarding why people are making their choices and put everyone in these easy to hate categories. You know, "the ones". The fact is, many people are more complicated than that.

I apologize if I didn't come to class with my report. Maybe because I was just passing by, looked in the window, and heard what I thought was an attempt to deny why more people didn't show up for class.

What does conservation or liberal have to do with anything? The hypothesis was that any differing opinion gets shouted down. Basically any thread has people with myriad opinions arguing with each other so this is clearly not the case.
