Johntay Cook dismissed from the football team.

Guessing partly "why should I bust my ass in practice, when I don't see the field on Saturday"  versus "you don't get in the game because you don't run your routes and catch and block in practice" resulting in "you should take your talents elsewhere and quit wasting practice reps here".

Think it is an old familiar story. Highly ranked kid comes in. Gets beat out by a kid in his class (Moore) and a younger player (Wingo). He has been the man all his life and doesnt handle it well. I doubt the coaches wanted him to leave (Bond, Golden, and Bolden likely gone), if Cook was going to compete and have the proper attitude. I have a strong feeling that wasnt the case, but 0 direct knowledge of that.

disappointed that he didn't work out. had high hopes for him.

silver lining is that it does convey some serious accountability standards within the program. the drop against msu was particularly awful and he's not really seen the field since.

Yep. Had some right-in-the-hands drops coupled with "wtf, you don't have to knock the CB on his ass, but at least get in his way...".

It took about 2 seconds of seeing Ryan Wingo on the field to understand why he was so highly ranked and coveted. Never felt that way to me watching Cook, though obviously he can still have success somewhere.

When it comes to WR there were just too many cooks in the kitchen. Johntay was arguably about the sixth best WR this year on the team this season, and next year he was clearly going to be behind Wingo and Moore. Then you have the likelihood of a top-shelf transfer WR or two, and then the prodigious incoming freshman talent. He probably would not start in 2025. So this not a loss, really, and just the way of things in college football. If he had attitude issues as well behind the scenes, it makes perfect sense to accelerate the process in his case.

This sucks, especially with Bond out. But not unexpected.

The transfers coming in kind of put these young guns in a tough spot, they had to actually get out and truly earn the playing time.

Truth is Golden, Bolden, Moore were all better and same type of receiver. Wingo is a star too and needs more touches.

there was never going to be enough touches to go around.

Bond is probable for Saturday

Bond, Golden, Bolden, Moore, Wingo is the rotation for the stretch run to December

Mix in the 2025 recruits, too.

Handwriting was kinda on the wall when Sark brought in 3 WRs in the portal last spring.

With more depth of talent on the roster, folks not getting reps will continue to portal -- it's just way CFB is nowadays.
