Seen a guy in the comments of a Johntay Report post on IG. He claimed to be connected to an agent of draft eligible player on the team. He said Johntay failed multiple drug tests at Texas. He also missed a week of practice and attempted to fight Torre Becton when he confronted him. That was the incident that allegedly got him cut. He must be on gnarly shit to to try to fight Becton.

I have no idea why the University of Washington didn't work out for him. I mean, Sark and Pete Kwiatkowski have absolutely NO connections to U Dub, so there is no way any issues he had at Texas could have been communicated to the Washington coaches!

Very strange.

I've seen this happen in real time, and it is absolutely heartbreaking.  We had a 19 year old midshipman from the Naval Academy experience a complete break while on a summer training cruise on our ship.  Poor kid was absolutely convinced that there were "dark" people on the ship who would kill him if he went to sleep.  One day he was a motivated USNA mid with unlimited potential, and the next day he was cowering under a table in the crew's mess.

At this point, as heartbreaking as it is, I hope this is what is going on with Johntay, because it can be treated and managed.  Being a general fuck-up is much harder to diagnose and fix.

Don't throw @USNALonghorn under the bus like that.  He recovered and has done well for himself.

I hope he turns it around, gets the help he needs and all that, but there are some people who can't be helped. They don't want to be helped. Not everybody wants to get better.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

A great 30 for 30 would be college and NFL dudes that flamed out. Similar to the Greatest That Never Was episode. I'd like for it to be more focused on perspective and why they did what they did at that time. Some cool self reflection and one of the questions asked to them should be: "Would you do it all again?". I'd love to hear Jamarcus Russell, Tony Mandarich, and Leaf answer that.

Cook needs some court ordered help or the kid is gonna end up dead or facing a lengthy prison sentence and its horrible not only because he wore the uniform but he's still a person.

Unlike all the balls thrown his way, these charges might not be dropped.

I mean mandarich was a bust, but was it because he was a fuck up or because he was not longer able to mainline more horse steroids than his opponents?  I don't remember that guy being a total flameout due to drugs/idiocy.

I'd throw in Todd marinovic on my flameout Rushmore.

It's definitely reading too much into just one photograph, but it's yet another data point towards that condition.

Interesting comments from two different posters on the Reddit article:

'The rumor was that the ‘altercations’ were due to some stealy-esque behavior in the locker room.'

'Stealing from lockers at Washington got him in fights. He has a habit and needs help bad asap. Prob blew lol all his$ on certain drugs no doubt .'

Well, if that were to have happened, it would have been before they took him in a sort of "full-disclosure" thing, if asked.  But I suspect absent reliance from current UW coaching, Sarkisian would not undermine a player trying to make a fresh start somewhere.

You're probably right that officially, Sark would not have undermined Cook, but it is interesting to imagine that the coaching community values their relationships with each other more than with many of the players, so perhaps there were some back-channel warnings. How else could Cook have had such a short leash of 48 hours?

Of course, coaches are very conceited and always think they are the one who can 'fix' a certain player.
