Sad but true. I'm sure all the signs were there during his recruitment, so the fact he was still offered and suited up speaks volumes about all the talent he just squandered. Tragic.

Sad to see.

Had an athlete -- now former athlete -- from my school send me a scathing, profane email yesterday because I didn't do the things he wanted me to do for him regarding the educational part of his career. It seemed clear from the outset that he needed to start doing things on his own that he hadn't at this previous two schools, and I told him as much, although a little more indirectly. I told him how I'd help him after he took care of some basics that he wanted me to do. He didn't like that.

Heard from his head coach recently that "things didn't work out" with the team.

The young man tried to register but apparently had some other registration blocks and couldn't get into classes. Never contacted me except after the fact. Now he's on his fourth school and is probably out of his sport, too. Guessing he's at a local tech college, which would be good. Maybe he can learn a trade, but I wouldn't be surprised if his tendency to avoid responsibility continues to bite him.

Obviously not quite the same boat as Johntay, but it's always a downer to watch people sink themselves like this.

He's got all the physical talent in the world, and apparently serious mental deficiencies.

I don't know if there's anything that can help him... not sure where the line is drawn between unbelievably stupid and full-on crazy.

Like y'all, I hope something works for him, I really do... it's just that it doesn't seem likely.

I hope he turns it around, gets the help he needs and all that, but there are some people who can't be helped. They don't want to be helped. Not everybody wants to get better.

Thats probably because Antonio Brown is outside his house running laps naked while smoking a crack pipe, strangling a puppy, while denying the holocaust.

Ryan Leaf doesn't even threaten Johnny Foosball's ranking.

Not to get off topic, but Ryan Leaf is the poster child for bouncing back after hitting rock bottom.  He's 14 years sober, works for facilities that counsel former players on addiction issues, has a radio show, and is an advocate for former players.  Pretty good interview I read a while back.  Always like to see a good comeback story, I dunked on Ryan Leaf as much as anybody.

Amen.  I don't believe anyone is beyond redemptions or comebacks

Here are the charges

Honest question. How do you end up in jail for theft between $100 and $750? Isn't that a misdemeanor? Is it because of the "Interfere w Public Duties" charge? Does that mean, fleeing, destroying evidence, resisting arrest?

I honestly hope he gets some help.

I wonder if all of his friends, who are pictured in all of his Insta posts partying with him, (while he, no doubt, picked up the tab) are now? Are they helping him? Or did they dump him when the money stopped flowing?

There are also jealous 'friends' who enjoy bringing you down, just so they can feel better about being failures.

If you see him with a machete at White Rock Lake make sure to run the other direction

Did you know the wife of Thomas Johnson’s victim committed suicide 2 weeks after his murder?

So he really caused the death of two people.

it’s a class B misdemeanor for which you typically get arrested.

IWPD is just interfering with the cop doing their job, but less than resisting, evading, tampering with evidence. Kind of a catch all.

Johntay has been mainly repping a threads brand, possibly his, on Insta. I am guessing, without any evidence, that his arrest was for shoplifting apparel.

Most of us would be better off trying to throw a rock at him to take him out than getting stabbed in the back a few seconds after we try to run.

Did Thomas Johnson get in this much trouble before he killed that dude? I know he had a lot of mental health calls and was a known schizophrenic before that all happened. Worried Cook is headed that way. Or maybe he’s just a pure fuck up.

Yeah that's my guess as well. $100-$750 - guessing it was clothes or shoes. And then he got a charge tacked on for being a dickhead.

Really dumb thing to go to jail for.

A great 30 for 30 would be college and NFL dudes that flamed out. Similar to the Greatest That Never Was episode. I'd like for it to be more focused on perspective and why they did what they did at that time. Some cool self reflection and one of the questions asked to them should be: "Would you do it all again?". I'd love to hear Jamarcus Russell, Tony Mandarich, and Leaf answer that.

Cook needs some court ordered help or the kid is gonna end up dead or facing a lengthy prison sentence and its horrible not only because he wore the uniform but he's still a person.

Unlike all the balls thrown his way, these charges might not be dropped.
