This thread has been an interesting look into what happens when the folks who whine about the CR, jump in a thread and they post without endless negging.  I see some, but very little.  Wish there was more of that.  There also has been very little name calling.

I feel like zjetas is just really uninformed on Ukraine (probably from someone like Tim Poole).  He’s clearly getting upset about hearing his ideas challenged, but if he’s truly interested in learning more and hearing opposing viewpoints, we will see if he hangs around.

In general, he's a pretty bright dude and insightful.  But also probably pretty naive.

There are already tariffs on a broad range of items that Trump implemented and Biden left on.

Quite simply things will cost more as more Tariffs are added.  Tariffs are paid by the purchaser.  It will get added to the cost and roll up to the retail price.

There is also the fact that purchasers of tariffed products will seek substitute products.  Essentially this is the theory that they can make domestic products more competitive.

I’d take any doomcast or promise of nirvana with a huge grain of salt.  The devil will be in the details.

I will be serious for a minute and say I think tariffs are our best chance to arrest climate change before total collapse. It’s a way to capture the cost of what is essentially slave labor and environmental destruction. But I don’t think Trump will go about them with that in mind; and even if he did I don’t think our citizenry is willing to accept the additional cost of goods. Basically we are fucked

No I actually think it's more like Vietnam.

Just FYI, Vietnam today is an ally if China wants to pop off on Taiwan

There aren't innocent Russian kids that have died because of this?

Wow… I mean… effectively no? Russia stormed across most of Ukraine and kidnapped thousands of children, raped many of them, raped, tortured, murdered their parents in front of them, then shipped them into Russia to help populate various shitholes that don’t even gave running toilets. The torture method Russians became infamous for during this time was dubbed “21 roses.” If you’re aware of this and don’t want antique western arms supporting Ukrainians, who love American culture and fucking hate soviets… did I mention the precision missiles Russia fired into ukraines largest children hospital? Modern Russia is the worst example of modern humanity.

Where do we report this interesting information to our new overlords?

Hell, if I’m entertaining the idea of reporting my in-laws’ illegal housekeeper, I wouldn’t even think twice about turning Icono in to ICE.

You realize we agreed to assist Ukraine against Russian aggression in 1992 when they agreed to give up their nukes after the fall of the Soviet Union. They were and still are too young of a democracy for NATO membership.

Let's agree to say fuck the jews and fuck Ukraine. Bring all that money home.

Universal Healthcare? Republicans vote No

Child care for all the forced births? Republicans vote No

Support veterans after they get limbs blown off? Republicans vote No

Get the fuck out of here. Republicans would never spend those billions on our citizens. At least it's being spent on killing some commies. Yes those are our enemies Tucker.

We’ve invested $200B over 3 years into our own country for Ukraine but even If we pretend it was purely in Ukraine to kill Russians… even if we round down, our deficits in ‘22, ‘23, ‘24 were $1.3, 1.6, 1.8 TRILLION… 1.566T avg deficit dawg. $70B average saving Europe from our generations hitler. That’s 4.5% dude. Not of our total budget, but of our annual deficit. This is a drop of piss into the bucket of shit and THIS is where you mother fuckers decide to clutch the purse strings.

I wish that piece of shit Bob Perry was still alive so we could report his illegals.   Honestly goading on the right wing moronsphere into creating a hotline for reporting companies hiring illegals could lead to actual immigration reform and ridiculous levels of schadenfreude

Go to ADS-b exchange tomorrow and sort by mlat. Scroll out so you see the entire world. Do that again for a week and think about the money we are burning in the air compared to the rest of the world. And those are just the military planes they are showing us.

Nah, white dude. Balding. Hehe, a bit earlier. Taught Mexican revolution when I was there. Good class, but saw the entire hemisphere through that lens. Only one who fits that description was De La Madrid. But I only took 1 seminar with him and we did not see eye to eye on a few issues.

His TA was hot but she sucked.

Are you saying it's stupid for Ukraine to defend itself?

Russia is only raping, filling mass graves, looting, and kidnapping children because Ukraine wore a short skirt.

Like most low information voters, he doesn’t realize we didn’t airlift billions to Ukraine in as much as we stimulated our own job/manufacturing and gave them old shit we would likely scrap.

I mean, that's not the only evidence that Cuban is just another shitty oligarch.  There's plenty of past evidence of that.

He has seemed to mellow some over the years.

Mortgage rates are rising and will likely get higher in Trump's economy.

Quote

U.S. mortgage rates increased to a four-month high this week and could rise further amid fears that President-elect Donald Trump's proposed economic policies could stoke inflation.

The average rate on the popular 30-year fixed-rate mortgage climbed to 6.79%, the highest level since July, from 6.72% last week, mortgage finance agency Freddie Mac said on Thursday.

*****

"Buyers who were waiting until after the election to get into the market may not see rates as low as they had hoped," said Lisa Sturtevant, chief economist at Bright MLS.

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate tracks the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, whose yield jumped to a four-month high in the aftermath of Republican Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential race. Trump campaigned on a platform of tax cuts, which economists say would juice the economy, widen budget deficits and increase government borrowing.

He also promised to impose a 60% tariff on Chinese goods and at least a 10% levy on all other imports, which economists expect to re-ignite inflation and reduce the Federal Reserve's scope to cut interest rates.

Mark Cuban?  Why in the world would anyone believe a single word that oozes out of his mouth?  He has pants himself completely over the last 18 months, its absurd.

You do understand that we are not part of a cult like MAGA? whatever he says will be vetted and it will be no more or no less factual than if some hobo down the street said it. We don't accept lies, much less lies coming from the top as "don't worry he does not mean it!".

Agree with the first two sentences completely. The infatuation with him on this board never ceases to confound me.  As for mellowing over the years, I’m not sure I fully agree given the fact that he voluntarily chose the Adelsons to become his boss.

Will you? Donny is going senile, it will be his team running the country, you don't care of course, just pointing out your hypocrisy.

Also for the record I don't fall for stupid propaganda, a great team is infinitely better than a golden boy (which Trump never was)

I haven't said anything about Trump.

I criticized Cuban, who shat all over himself for the last year or so, apparently in direct response to a petty dig from Trump about a failed television program.

Then you dropped in with the holier than thou barf about critical thinking and scrutiny the left applies in ALL cases  !!!!11!!1!1!

Which is completely absurd given the catastrophic embarrassment left wing media and Democratic establishment just took Tuesday night.

Take a look at this chart, it breaks down economic perceptions over time along party lines.  A couple things:

1. Clearly D and GOP voters view the economy partially through the prism of who is in the White House and believe it is better when their guy is in charge.

2.  The effect is extreme among Republicans; absent a black swan event like Covid the economy can only be good when their guy is in charge and bad when the other one is.

I think it’s accurate to say this election was about the economy ONLY for non-Republicans.
