Can you provide a link to the details of that policy proposal? I would certainly favor tax credits for family caregivers, and allowing family members to claim deductions for family members that they are providing caregiving to in their household.

So I was mistaken it was Harris alone who proposed it. I thought I remembered hearing about it earlier in the year but this is what I found. Looks like it would be means tested to some extent

Had a fun run in today. Well not really fun. Sad. The interpreter I mentioned I was excited was going to vote called me. He voted Trump. Was rubbing my face in it. How he only supports winners, etc. So I let him go off until he says he is going to sponsor his Afghan parents to come to live with him. Um... I asked if he saw the statement about birthright citizenship. Nope. He says well at least they can come and visit. I asked what he thinks about a new Muslim ban. I am pretty sure Afghans will be added to any new list. Nope. He tells me he has to get a lot of work done on his truck (long haul trucker). I ask if he heard about tariffs and if he knew what components on his truck we made overseas. Nope. He says well at least the killing of Palestinians created by Biden will stop. I said if he knew it was Trump that moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem. Nope.

He asked me to go to a gun show and help him pick something out since he is nervous in his neighborhood now (NE San Antonio, not Watts). I said nope.

I hope he enjoys living under the Christian Taliban.

I hope his parents are never allowed in the country

Let me preface what I am about to say with the fact that I am a veteran.

I highly doubt that a Trump administration could conduct an effective and well-thought out reform to the VA disability system, but it badly needs it.

The ridiculous range of "conditions" that qualify for disability benefits is embarrassing.  For exapmle, if you use a CPAP for sleep apnea, that's an automatic 50% VA disability rating.  The standard for something qualifying as "service-connected" is a joke.  If you stumble off the sidewalk one night while drunk on liberty and sprain your ankle, that's "service-connected."

The percentage of people who spend their last six months of active duty going to multiple doctor appointments so that every possible condition is documented is straight up fraud, waste, and abuse.  A huge percentage of these conditions are are a result of age and poor health choices, not the rigors of military service.

It is a system that is easily gamed and costs the taxpayers A LOT of money.  That sucks, because there are plenty of disabled veterans who need the support.  The average military retiree has a disability rating of 56%.  This just sucks resources away from those who really need them and it makes the system more difficult to navigate for those with legitimate disabilities.

95% of the people who do this justify it by telling themselves "hey, it's not me, it's the system."

It needs reform, but Trump's political appointees aren't the ones to get it done.  A lot of folks deserve to have their face eaten on this one because they gamed the system as much as possible, and others are going to have their faces eaten because any "reforms" will be ham-fisted and poorly considered before being rushed into implementation.

1. isn’t the plan to go private ? if the funding isn’t there, pay outs will have to be reduced

per project2025

2. new rules for all disability claims going forward

3. all past cases are subject to review

trunp has said in interviews that having headaches isn’t a va disability

im sure the med companies would like charge more for meds

Do y’all realize how paternalistic you sound when you spout off shit like this. Using the language of your party, it reeks of white privilege and what a British colonial officer would say at a garden party talking about the natives 100 years ago. We are stupid, like children in your eyes, because we don’t choose the candidates that YOU want us to choose. It’s telling that the fear porn nightmare stories are emanating from white liberals - the ones that most have to lose in your fan fiction AREN’T BUYING IT. You fuckers will NEVER HAVE my support, I’d rather be purged by a future MAGA revolutionary council than live under a Kamala Harris Presidency. I’ll gladly take the unknown future with death by firing squad by MAGA than have the continuation of the past 4 years. Get it now. FIN.

I can’t figure out why he doesn’t just head back to Iran rather than try to recreate it here under the umbrella of Christianity.  It’s already happened over there.

I’m a Christian dumbass. If I want to build a Christian nationalist government I’m not going to do it in Iran. Think a little bit. Please.

I don’t see anything in there about paying family members to provide caregiving.

@texashorne I know nothing about your posting history, but are you aware that the poster you're repping has stated his emphatic political wish that we had a king to rule this country? I'm not joking, either. He desires a monarchy in America, and he votes accordingly. This is part of the bundle of beliefs that he's professing his willingness to die for.

It’s very common for family members to be trained to provide skilled home health  care and then become the home health aid for their elderly or disabled relative. Presumably the same practice would extend to newly covered unskilled care

Ok. But that’s very different than what you said. It’s ok. I thought maybe there was a policy proposal on the issue that I missed. No worries.

I see that as definitely a policy proposal. Paying for help with activities of daily living is huge, especially if it can be done by a family member

Edit I guess would have been a policy proposal. Clearly won’t be now

Lol if I’m ever radical enough to say I’d rather die by firing squad than vote for another party just kill me.

Weird that he wasn't brave/bold enough to say that he'd rather die than live under Kamala on Monday.

I know two veterans on disability pay.  One lives with his parents again because he has to and deserves every bit of what he gets.

The other deserves something but milks the system as hard as possible, lies to increase his disability, actively tries to lose jobs that he complains about being forced to get.

You’re denigrating your friend the interpreter’s choice for President and your attitude is paternalistic and you’re shitting on him because of his Afghan background and not believing in the fear porn you’re spouting. Why are the reasons he has in selecting Trump any less valid than your reasons for voting for whoever you did.

There is nothing in there about paying family members to be caregivers. That seems to a connection being made that is not explicitly part of what Kamala proposed. It doesn’t matter. It’s not a big deal. I just thought I missed something.

ETA: WRT to family caregivers, here is Trump's proposal to provide a tax credit to family caregivers:

Not at all. I spent a lot of time helping get him here. I believe in him. My point is what he voted for and what he wants are not compatible. On January 21 there is a damn good chance he won't be able to apply for his parents to migrate to the US. It is very possible the cost of spare parts imported will go up. When I had the chance to tell him what I thougth about the election I did not do that. At all.

But the best two are thinking Biden caused the withdraw from Afghanistan and Trump will halt Israel in Gaza.
