Would you rather us just say, "man, it's sure tough luck that these people are going to get exactly what they voted for?"

I would rather us not lump divergent groups together. Muslim Americans were placed in a unique moral quandary, far different than, say, Latinos for Trump or pro-life women or just random selfish MAGA assholes who are just now learning that they are the welfare queens they always complained about. Those latter groups are selfish idiots eager to fall for Trump’s lies and willing to see others suffer. Nothing the Dems could say would have swayed those assholes and they deserve whatever pain they get.

But the Dems could have taken fairly small, harmless steps to at least show some good faith to Muslims and earn their votes. And it would have been the right fucking thing to do, you know, to at least show a modicum of sympathy and concern for innocent victims of industrialized slaughter: The party chose not to.

From where I sit as a heartbroken Democrat, the party fucked around and we all found out. We have no one to blame but ourselves. And I won’t take any solace whatsoever that desperate people who saw no good option end up suffering.

They are idiots to believe the bullshit that Trump said. Trump was pro-Israel in his last term, and his pick of Elise Stefanik to be his UN ambassador will mean she'll support Israel even more.

I feel for the Palestinians in Gaza, but if the electorate in the US were fucking stupid if they thought Trump would do anything to help the situation in Gaza.

Thing is. You can just switch literally any name in place of Trump and the story is the same. Actually not true. Press me and I take the under in terms of dead bodies stacked high under Trump moving forward compared to the reality under Biden.

I'm still waiting for anyone to tell me what else Harris was supposed to do for Gaza.  She called for a ceasefire and said she did not support what is happening there right now. She can't do shit as VP.

But she WAS the party’s candidate for President. And the party declined a request by Palestinian advocates to speak at the DNC, but allowed pro-Israel speakers (which, by the way, leaders of the Uncommitted movement supported).

From my conversations with Muslim friends, merely allowing a Palestinian voice to speak briefly at the convention would have gone a looooong way. It was about showing a path forward and hope. The party fucked that up as badly as it possibly could have, which is a high bar for our lovable blue losers.

The people who voted because inflation was too high are in for a rude fucking awakening.

20% tariffs on all imports will make things more expensive for American consumers. Things will cost 20% more. Yay!

Lower business tax and fewer regulations means companies will look to borrow borrow borrow for capital investment. More demand for borrowing means... yep, higher interest rates. Gen Zers waiting on lower interest rates so they can buy a house are fucked.

Lower business taxes also means bigger budget shortfalls and the Federal government would need to issue more bills and bonds to pay for shit, at higher interest rates, so the budget to service debt payments will go up, meaning fuck you social security and medicare.

Independent financial groups said Harris's economic proposals would have added $3.5 trillion to the national debt. They say Trump's proposal would added $7 trillion. Yep, the Republicans are better at the economy. Bullshit.

I voted on character and also economic issues, especially national debt. Wife and I never planned on social security and medicare in our retirement planning.

Many (maybe most?) of them think the country that the tariff is imposed upon pays the tariff.  They have no idea that consumers ultimately pay tariffs.  Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Democrats gonna democrat.

They let fear guide their decisions on this, per usual.  Can't give a Palestine sympathizer any speaking time for fear that they'll say fuck the prompter and go off-script.  That might hurt the goals of raising $1B to run ads pandering to Liz Cheney's friends.

The issue was a loser for the Dems regardless. We can Monday morning QB this to death, but they were going to lose some Muslim votes or some moderate votes once the Israelis pressed their atrocities.  The Dems made a reasonable bet, which was that Muslims would realize that Trump was going to be far worse for their cause than Harris.  For chrissakes, EVERYONE (including Muslim leaders) told them so, and most realized that Harris just couldn't be vocal about it.  At some point, voters need to realize the political games going on under the surface, but here they didn't. FAFO.

It's really funny because Trump really fucked the farmers last time around and get they still,  somehow,  voted for him.

Well,  maybe just the ones that had faces still...

Going to have the small percentage of farms  that are run by families get taken in by large corporate farming operations. Who could have seen it coming that their orange god king would be cool with this? I do not feel one bit bad for any farmer that voted for him getting their comeuppance in the form of being broke and destitute.

I agree with that. In the case of my friends, they just didn’t vote or voted third party. They were well aware of the danger. They just couldn’t bring themselves to affirmatively support a candidate who, in their estimation, had blood on her hands.

It was a fucked up trolley problem, for sure.

Interestingly, I got a “What’s in store from Trump 2.0” from JPM today and it was less than  optimistic. Said that as big of a disaster as tariffs will be, mass deportations will damage the economy more.  Interesting that Berkshire has moved to a majority cash position.

The new talking point is that the tariffs aren't real and just a fear tactic and that the mass deportations will open up housing options. I guess a lot of undocumented immigrants were spending $700k on housing.

I mean....the pure fucking genius here.

Let's take a country that is operating at functionally zero unemployment.....and just eliminate millions and millions of workers.  There's no way to cut that so it doesn't end up inflationary as hell.  Either wages have to go WAY up to get people to process chickens in Arkansas (leading to inflation of prices) or plants are just gonna have to shut down (leading to reduced supply....leading to inflation).  And that's just looking at food processing.  Construction is similar, with the added bonus of throttling the supply of new housing coming to market (reduced supply.....yep, inflation of prices).

Austin's housing supply isn't tight because some sheetrockers from Guatemala live here.  Shit, most of the ones working in Austin DON'T live here -- they live in the hinterlands and distant burbs, in shitty housing.

Every part of this is fucking dumb.

Just now, Chewbacca said:

Yeah, the combo of tariffs on imports and a labor shortage are going to hit construction particularly hard.

I mean, voters made it clear that they weren't buying any of the warnings about the dangers of a vote for Trump.  Its all hypothetical fear mongering to win an election... until it isn't.  The shit being warned about is going to have to be made manifest before it moves the needle with a critical mass of people.

That doesn't mean those fears are guaranteed to happen or that anyone should take joy from it if they do, but it is the reality of where we are at.  Its all up to Trump and his party now.  Are you who you say you are, or who the democrats said you are?  I don't need anyone's expectant opinion on that.  We are all going to know pretty quickly.

But in Trumpland....what is the answer to why our housing supply is fucked?   OBVIOUSLY, the problem is housepainters and roofers named Jorge taking up all of our housing supply.

Going to be deporting a lot of doctors, lawyers, bankers and tech magnates among the hordes of illegals it sounds like.

What a time to be alive to witness all this stupidity. Can’t wait to see some dumbfounded looks from maga cult members when their favorite restaurants close down because there is no one to cook their food or clean their dishes.
