how much lumber do we import from Canada?  Hello, housing costs!

maybe a tree or two.

I live near a few railroads. See the trains daily coming from the south. Full of truck and car chassis. yeah, cars might go up a bit.

I'm gonna load up on little green nerf footballs from amazon. This time next year I'll haul 'em to my old hometown in east Texas and sell them as avocados. The guacamole at Ta'Molly's won't taste that much different for them anyways. Meanwhile I'll slip into Trump's favorite tax bracket.

We're a long way from Marcus Aurelius. If you go by descriptions in the historical records Trump is an almost carbon copy of Nero. Right down to the insane narcissist delusions.

Canada is our largest trading partner, Mexico is second. We did about 910 billion in trade with Canada in 2023 and 800 billion in trade from Mexico, so 6.4 percent of our GDP comes directly from trade with those nations. We import 90% of our avocados from Mexico and 12.7 billion board feet of Canadian lumber yearly. Our vegetables in the wintertime mostly come from Mexico. If we slap a 25% tariff on Mexican goods, folks are going to start paying a shit ton more for their vegetables. Not to mention the people who get laid off because Mexico starts slapping tariffs on our goods going to their country and Mexicans respond by not buying it or not buying as much of it. Not to mention creating more poor people in Mexico because our shoppers will quit buying as much of their produce.
