I can appreciate that, but IMO, reverting to someone's given name as opposed to their preferred name and calling someone the N word isn't in the same ballpark.

If someone were to say that Jenner should be called the "T" word, then that would an apt comparison.

That's not what's happening in this case.  Jenner's voting and vocal support of the anti-trans movement has voided the respect required to be called by a preferred name.  Just as I might call some other fascist asshole Dick even though I know they want to by Richard.

I don't have the energy, nor the desire to cater to fascist fee-fees

This has vibes like my brother who can't come around to not calling Asians "Orientals".  Its just not a big fucking deal. It's like you are digging in for no reason.

It’s not how you intend something. It’s how others perceive it.

By all means do what you want, just realize it hurts some people

Also the post was that started all this reminded me of

The fact that you can't see the difference between the two scenarios is a "you" problem, not a me problem.

Individual vs collective.

Truth is I'm not a particularly empathic person so how other people perceive things isn't really a concern of mine.  It's a character flaw, to be sure, but it's not something I have control over.

I've actually been diagnosed with mild psychopathy ...and yes, it is measured on a spectrum.

I'm not sure any poster on Hornfans/Shaggy/Surly has ever said something about themselves that surprised me less.

And your point?  Am I supposed to be ashamed that I suffer from a mental health issue?

Stigmatizing people with mental health issues is why many are afraid to admit they have them.

I'm not ashamed of it

When Musk can get away with this .... US democracy is finished, the leopards are fully unleashed, and it will be a bloodbath

And the fascist lackeys in Surly will say it was an "enthusiastic heartfelt gesture" to the crowd.

When people are trying to help you, take the help. I have a significant amount of trans friends and trust me, dead naming is every bit as offensive as using the T word. Even more so in some cases.

At every turn in their lives someone is trying to hurt them or not acknowledge them by dead-naming them. It could be a parent or family member trying not to acknowledge their transition by refusing to call them by their new name. It also can be as bad as someone trying to out them as trans to people who may not know. Dead naming is a two hand shove in the chest out the acceptance door for a trans person. When you dead name one trans person you are showing other trans people that you are ONE disagreement from doing them harm. They will never look at you the same. Just the same as your black friend will never look at you the same if you angrily hard R someone.

And yet here you are endorsing stigmatizing another group of people and trying to make them feel ashamed. Why is it okay for you to do that to a group of people, but you don’t like it when it happens to you?

You're being told it is. You're choosing to ignore it. Just be good with the fact that you aren't better than the people you keep trying to tell us you are.

I think this conversation is a good indicator of why the left keeps losing elections.   Instead of rallying around the fuckery or laughing at the fools who opted to get fucked over by it, we are on here bickering and trying to educated one another to have our standards.

A lifelong friend changed his name legally.   We have been friends since we were little kids, and it was very difficult for me to simply switch a name, compounded by the infrequency of our visits, after 2 years he let me off the hook.  He knew I was trying, but I just struggled to get over the entrenchment.

Last post on the subject, but what the fuck are you talking about?

Jenner is an individual, not a group.

Elon has Asperger's, and likely another personality disorder, but calling him Elmo, or Nazi, or any other derogatory term is a reflection on him, not every person suffering from mental health issues.

If you called him the R word that would be different.

Clearly there is a disconnect in our ways of thinking, which is fine.  If we all agreed on everything, life would be pretty boring.

If this is widespread, this shit is going to get real fast.

I’m looking forward to the produce section of the grocery store to be empty. May need to drop a few of these around.

If I could order some of those and know they did not benefit him I would. I can think of a few places to put them.

Pleasant surprise, but color me skeptical.  I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

There's more GOP support for Ukraine than people realize - including Mike Johnson.

Also, if Russia leaves Ukraine on his watch then Trump can take credit for it.

This will be my first and last post on the topic.

Last night, you posted a bulleted list of some of your principles. One of them was having the right to do whatever you'd like in your personal space so long as it doesn't negatively impact others. An example was the discussion of German polka oompah music being played loudly at night, bothering neighbors.

PAUSE: Now, please reflect on that for a moment.

You state that when you call Caitlyn "Bruce," you're intention is only to insult her. And yet, you continue to insist on stating it publicly (i.e., loudly) in this forum in the presence of someone who has repeatedly stated that you're offending her (as have others who have been trying to help you grasp what you're doing). In other words, you're continuing to blast your German polka oompah music even though you only "intended" to disturb one of your neighbors (but not the whole neighborhood).

You defend yourself by saying, "Well, she's not the intended target of my insult," as if it absolves you from using a known and widely recognized slur against an entire group of people. It is EXACTLY the same concept (as others have pointed out) as calling one Black person with whom you're pissed an N-word in front of an audience that includes other Black people.

How would you react when being called out on that behavior?

Would you quickly apologize and say something like, "Shit, I'm sorry I blurted out the N-word. It just slipped out." Or would you continue and dig in by saying, "I'm not racist! I just really wanted to hurt his feelings because that's the quickest and cheapest shortcut that I know of to emotionally damage a person that looks like him. Sure, I'm pissing off other Black people during the process, but fuck them for being so woke and sensitive and shit."

If you're still cool with that argument and CONTINUE TO DIG IN, then you are truly and remarkably a tremendous asshole.

Look, my advice is to insult someone over their behavior and not their appearance, like how they're a fucking hypocrite and traitor to others like them. Do it with precision and not a fucking shotgun blast where a bunch of others catch strays.

Just grab the image and print them on your printer. You aren’t being graded on the quality of the medium you’re using to troll people.
