I wonder if Jamie is ready to step in and offer cut-rate financing to entrepreneurial Americans who want to take a swing at getting into the business of the production/manufacturing of all the kinds of things we are going to put tariffs on so all that business comes back home?  I mean if it's a security thing that should be some losses he is willing to get over right?

The suspension of refugee status for Afghans previously approved to come here is simply ghoulish.

Reminds me of the ships we turned away escaping from Nazi Germany back in the late 1930’s

History may not repeat but it damned sure rhymes.

Briefly worked with the Afghan Asylum Project back in 2022/23 when a large number were being routed into Oklahoma. Mostly trying to reunite soldiers / interpreters with their families and get their asylum process kickstarted and as uniform as we could.  The few groups I did intake and interviews with were the ones lucky enough to get the fuck out of Kabul before we left them behind.

Heartbreaking shit. To be honest, I’m not sure how they held themselves together through any of the process. They were grateful. In their shoes, I would’ve been fucking furious.

Ghoulish is pretty spot on.

Well, sure.  But the sale of Trump branded "freedom masks" will be acceptable.

No; because Trump might smear his orange makeup.  That's the source of mask outrage. Because an Orange Reality Star didn't want to smear his makeup.  A large part  of covid infighting was over the whims of a narcissistic toddler.

If it's bad enough to scare fat boy to mask up and control cameras enough maybe; buy he can't risk smearing his makeup or being in the rain for anything

I wonder if all this (Trump 2.0 and everything that has transpired the last, let's say, 100 days) could have been avoided if we as a country took a less hardline approach to the vaccinations back in 2021. Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I do wonder if the outcomes would have been materially or statistically significantly different if the NEVER-VAXERS and Vax-Anxious didn't feel "forced" to take it. I think most people who had even small reservations were like me in that they still got or would get the jab.

It 100% would have made a difference. The right keeps talking and the left keeps thinking they know better. The left wanted to save the world and in turn lost everything. The left can't meme was a thing for a reason. It's the way so many on here talk. They are so angry that it didn't go their way they are now celebrating becoming what they hate. It's fascinating to watch in real time. I never got vaxxed. I've had covid 3 times. If given the choice between covid and the flu im picking covid every time.

It 100% would have made a difference. Disagree. The grievances were going to be had no matter the topic.

The right keeps talking...yes, yes they do. A little less would certainly suit me just fine, but if there is serious self-reflection and thinking prior to speaking, America would be better served, yes? It seems it is too great an ask to have.

...the left keeps thinking they know better. Oh? Didn't realize the right could read minds to know what others are thinking. That's the danger of placing the population in this binary way of right v left regardless. Not going to debate the 'both' sides terminology but the push for 'sides' is what leads to the attitude that is displayed in the next sentences that I'm not quoting. Guess which class of people (hint: those standing at the top of the wealth pyramid) are doing most of the pushing...cha ching.

I've had covid 3 times. Sorry for your misfortune.

Yeah, that's not actually a thing anywhere outside the conservative corners of the internet. Conservatives thinking that they're the funny ones is always adorable. Conservatives are the ones who keep shows like Two and Half Men on the air for a billion years.

Yet you're still looking around wondering how we got here and i could see it coming for miles away. I typically vote 3rd party because they all suck, but actually didn't this time. From your tone i bet you wouldn't believe who i voted for either. The left will either learn to pay a little attention to those "conservative corners" or continue ignoring them and we all can just take the giant L. But hey at least some of yall can feel vindicated in behaving like the ones you so despise.

Ghoulish is pretty spot on.

Oh, it's even better than that.  The MAGAts LOVE to shout about Trump "PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT!"

Most of the folks we're bringing over from Afghanistan in the asylum process?  They worked with/assisted our US military....at great personal risk and risk to their families.  And we PROMISED them that we'd take care of them.

Brave people who put themselves in harm's way to help our fighting men and women.  We made a promise to them.  Trump just BROKE that promise.  "PROMISES MADE, PROMISES BROKEN."

The MAGAts are too stupid to ever, ever, ever grasp that 1) Trump will break the promises you actually need him to keep, and 2) will follow through on the threats/promises that you thought he was kidding about.

"I will help you" -- he'll break that promise.

"I will royally fuck you" -- he'll keep that promise.

You fucking dumbfucks.

Remember your "they don't exist" remark? You start by believing they do and you can grow from there. Trump wasn't the only one telling people what was going to happen. Everyone wants everyone to suffer for them not listening, yet most of you weren't listening either. The mirroring is weird.

I'm fucking surrounded by conservatives with my family, friends, and co-workers. I've tried listening and "paying them a little attention" for 10 years. The propaganda is too ingrained. How do you combat alternative realities?

The best I can hope for is, that in 20 years or so, they'll come to deeply regret pointing the county in this direction. In the meantime, yeah, I'm going to enjoy some FAFO schadenfreude.

I’m at the point where I’m openly addressing MAGA family members as “idiots,” “morons,” and/or “assholes.” Fuck their feelings. They deserve to hear the truth about themselves.

Of course he didn’t. These idiots rewrite his platform in their heads to suit their own personal agenda. They convince themselves that he’s just joking about all the stuff he says that they don’t like, and that he only means the stuff that they agree with.

The problem with our politics is that too many voters live in a solipsistic fantasyland. They pay no attention to objective reality and make decisions based solely on the warped physics of their self-absorbed delusion.

You don't.

I generally host big family gatherings and I've fully become the "we don't talk politics during family gatherings" guy and I have had to have real conversations with family members about it. My fully MAGA'd sister even managed to alienate me, the last of her siblings who would even bother talking to her (her kids won't even talk to her anymore) because she somehow believes that "no politics at Christmas" is a "free speech" issue. A particularly dumbass in-law (I call him "mouthbreather") has been pulled aside a couple of times, but he's mostly able to contain himself and he generally feels embarrassed after our 1-on-1s.

Early on I asked moutbreather how many sides there were to him as a person, and we agreed there were many. It's simply a matter of putting one side to the background for the evening, and it's not hard.

And it's also a matter of showing your teeth occasionally, so the idiots don't get confused and think your motivation is fear of their bold, unassailable ideas.

We don't have long in this world.

like many others, it was a lie they told themselves to vote for Trump.

I don't think people appreciate how unpopular Biden was at the end, and by extension, Kamala. Many looked for any reason to justify a change including burying their head in the sand and just voting for the opposition. IMHO this is an example of that.

That the little conservative corners of the internet you want to ignore just whipped the ever living shit out of the machine and its going to keep happening until people admit its real. You want to judge people for hitting their breaking points before you and act special because you just hit yours. Only one of us woke up surprised to the results of the election.

Double fuck you for letting the Earth burn. Next time you proclaim how much you love your children and grandchildren remember that you love hamburgers, giant SUVs, and any ruthless way to get money much more.

So many things are spiraling down so fast, that I might actually live to see the beginning of the worst of it. For awhile, I thought I would enter and exit this world (white male suburbia) during the best time ever for common white male people from suburbia.

We don't have long in this world.

Shortly after the election, our family went to the in-laws. My son quickly joined his grandfather in the den where he was catching the very end of the Bears/Lions game (in which the Bears inexplicitly  let the time run out on the game).  One of them expressed how much that sucked for Bears fans to have to watch that, and my son remarked about how he heard that violence (meaning domestic violence) went up in NFL cities after losses.  To which my FIL replied,  "Yeah, Chicago is very, very dangerous.  It's a Democrat controlled city".  I overheard this as I was still unpacking in the kitchen and reflexively yelled "NO", as if he was a dog squatting to take a shit on the carpet.  That was the end of that, for that evening anyway.

You tell me if you're happy with the election and ill tell you if ignoring it was worse. I'm not thrilled so i'd have preferred the left had played the game a bit more than just deciding things were trending well and no way was trump going to get elected.

18 minutes ago, The Dog said:

like many others, it was a lie they told themselves to vote for Trump.

Actually, y'all are wrong, and that's what makes it worse.  Trump actually DID say, at one point:

Quote

DONALD TRUMP: In many cases, they become successful. They have great jobs. In some cases, they have small businesses, some cases they might have large businesses. And we're going to have to do something with them. And...

KRISTEN WELKER: You want them to be able to stay. That's what you're saying?

TRUMP: I do.

WELKER: OK.

TRUMP: I want to be able to work something out.

The problem is, it's standard Trump-speak, because he's ALSO said a shitload of things indicating "fuck 'em."  Trump has mastered the art of standing in front of a crowd of Sooners and saying "OU rules, fuck Texas," then an hour later, standing in front of Texas fans saying "Texas rules, OU SUCKS!"  Morons then select the part they want to believe, and say that's what Trump believes.  "See, he's a real OU fan - he said OU rules and fuck Texas!"...while ignoring his statement "OU SUCKS" an hour later.

Trump's core beliefs are: I believe in whatever is good for me, and will get me adoration from the most enthusiastic people [who are usually angry people who want to hurt others].  That's it.  That's the full list of his principles.

So, it translates to Trump will support policies that hurt people, because that's what "action" and "getting something done" look like to the people who fawn all over him.  He will not support any policy that helps another human being, because helping people is weak beta soyboy cuck libtard shit.  Don't complicate this.

For the Dreamers who thought he was on their team, they're stupid.  They're suckers.  And they deserve all the pain and suffering they'll get.

I don't know how to embed Twitter links anymore but there's an utterly classic example of a former Tx. elected official named John Basham who is a huge Trump supporter and who is pleading with Trump and Ted Cruz to help him because his wife is a nurse and was recently hired by the VA, their home is packed up, they have spent thousands of dollars to move their family from Fort Worth to Waco and now the VA has rescinded the offer to his wife.  The responses are brutal and hilarious but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here and copy/save/paste them here.  But it's pretty much the ultimate FAFO/leopards eating faces tweet.  He should have thought of this before voting for Trump.
