To that end, Social Security benefits ending sooner is something that a huge number of older voters will care about.    I have a little doubt that politically something will be done to support Social Security under any party’s administration.  That issue transcends party politics and will galvanize old people not able to meet their bills if Elon and the GOP go full-on stupid ideology and misplaced traitorous loyalty over politics.

My initial reaction is always to assume no one could be that stupid, and then I remember it is Donald Trump.

The other thing to remember is that MAGA voters honestly never believe something bad will happen to themselves. That is problematic.   That is why innOhio they can focus on transgender junior high  student athletes in bum fuck Oklahoma.  That mindset is derived in part because they have no inkling that their lives could take a disastrous downturn from Trump’s policies.    In other words, if you have a straight issue showdown between getting Social Security and transgender issues, old people would knit and gift transgender people sweaters if it meant keeping their Medicare and Social Security.

Selfish self interest and an absence of empathy is what got us here, and that same selfish self-interest might work to help the Democrats with older voters - and fired voters - and losing your house because you can’t make a house note voters - and pissing off all of those relatives who have to take in various generations of family members who can’t make it now.

Hating on gay and trans people is a luxury these people have enjoyed - that is, so long as their far, far, far more important self-interests are not being negatively impacted.

TL;DR This crap just might get some traction from older Trump voters.

What are they gonna do about it now? The time to vote may just be over and they can barely wobble, much less run and take cover in their dream war scenarios. They willingly took us to the edge of the cliff and are frightened we may go over? That democracy experiment they played chicken with, how’s it working out?

You obviously don't actually care about my views or opinions.

This time I think I actually represented your view on gerrymandering accurately.  I remember the discussion on that issue, and my concern was that it led to members of congress not representing their district’s interests, by creating districts that aren’t actually places or real communities of interest. Your view at that time was that the congressional delegation should more or less map to the way the state votes in presidential elections. Is that not your view? Has you view changed?

As you know I don’t consider you a conservative in any real philosophical sense, but I would love for more Republicans to post here.

You're not a conservative. There is zero hope for you until you can be honest with yourself.

“The CRAZIES”. are so loud!
 thoughts & prayers traylay!

I can confirm this to be true. My daughter is a high level athlete as many of you know but still a type 1 diabetic. Wife told me that her 504 plan is now on the chopping block. No big issue for us since she is just a diabetic but for those special needs kids this is going to get ugly.

Related--in many states the reps/senators are not actually required to live in their district/state or only spend a nominal amount of time there or have used means and influence to circumvent the requirement. IIRC, the senator from Alabama lives in Florida, although that didn't stop him from being re-elected. As of 2017*, around 5% of reps didn't live in the district they represent and while the ones that do often have even worse gerrymandering in order to remain in office, having both scenarios exist simultaneously is, IMO, not a positive trend. The do-your-own-research crowd never really takes into account the downside of carpetbaggers. SEE: State of Texas>Politicians>Dan Patrick

*From a WaPo study. Would love to know if this has increased or if candidates are simply buying property and then nominally residing there. If representation is not one's goal as a candidate but latching on to the tether of power is then citizen's apathy, ignorance, and disregard for the nuance of policy plays quite nicely into this.

We around here have always said he hates his own voters and would MUCH rather hang around the Dem elites that his base despises.  Actions speak louder than words.

I always let the few trumptards in my orbit hear this.  Lately they have nothing to say.  Pretty amazing.  Total silence.

I love those are all old white people.

But I'm sure Trump will soon issue an executive order banning town halls.

GOP voters won't admit they were wrong until after the country is completely decimated, and maybe even not then.  Many of them know deep down they were duped.  Hardest thing in the world is to get someone to admit they were gullible and were had.
They will justify their vote, and keep supporting turnip, finding new and disturbing ways to justify everything.

George W Bush’s 2nd term saw the War in Iraq go to shit, disastrous Katrina response, and the subprime mortgage crisis that threatened to descend us into a global depression. Almost a third of America, was like, “W is great”.

Then, in 2010, the conservatives co-opted the tea party movement started by bailing out huge corporations and buyouts for CEOs. It was a movement that could have been a leftist movement in the past, but solidly carved more blue collar workers to their side.

FOX News can shift blame to whoever they want when Musk commits errors and exercises malfeasance.

I guess this goes here.

This is a bit disingenuous. One republican legislator submitted a bill to abolish the state Dept of Mental Health and Substance Abuse to the DOC. He said he did it to start a conversation about the problems within the dept.

He had previously submitted a bill to rename Dept of Corrections to Dept of Corruption.

He’s a troll but I guess some of the nuts in the house could take this one seriously

That is encouraging, I suppose. Will this revolt change the reasons they actually voted for Trump?

As I said earlier (everybody cares about that!), they feel betrayed because Trump isn't focusing on what they hate. They'll find someone better at doing that.
