I wont wish that on anyone. It is not their fault they are stupid rubes who believe in their superiority.
Whats best is to watch them live in misery for the next 20 years. The pendulum will shift. And when it does we need to remember all these asstards.
But, in the mean time, a lot of damn good people are being hurt. Lets take the rage and focus on helping those we can. The Rodney's are fucked no matter what. Can you quietly help a good neighbor who lost their job due to this crap? Then help em. Drop off dinner one night. Just be an ear. Shit we shoudl have always done. But now it is more important.
My wife is suffering due to this. She is about as good as an ally you can find. The halt to the science and field programs is real. All the projects she is going for are stopped. We are impacted. And I want to kick rodney in his nutts. But I won't wish death on him.

Fuck that. If you alleviate their suffering, you’re saving them from their mistakes and they’ll never change.

Nothing - NOTHING - but the most horrific of consequences will change their minds. Lose everything. EVERYTHING. Know that greatest of human despair, and MAYBE they’ll realize and change.
Cults are like every other addiction: there is no possibility of change until you hit rock bottom…and rock bottom for an addict is 10x more awful than any of us can imagine. Sucking sore-infested dick in a dumpster in the freezing rain, and then passing out in that dumpster because you don’t have a home, is the kind of shit it takes for an addict to break. We have to get there as a society as a whole.
Root for pain. Unimaginable pain. Because that is our only hope.

As usual, Democrats are fucking this opportunity up.

Dems need to make sure people know that while these are dOTarD's policies, the R's in Congress are just letting this shit happen. Dems need to be hammering that message- Congressional R's are just as culpable as DOtarD.

I kind of disagree. This is the beginning of the storm, we have 3.9 more years of this shit (hopefully...).  They need these cuts to hurt those who voted for Trump, Elon, Rs and the like to feel the pain and harden them against the GOP for the future elections. This shit isn't going to be fixed in 2026/28, it will take at least a decade to rebuild what they are tearing down.

We aren't even in midterm campaign territory yet, and the Dems only hope in the immediate future is to win a few special elections in very red districts. Probably not happening. They need a lot of Rs and Independents to realize how much they and their families rely on government programs, contracts and agencies. Only then will they think twice about the "drain the swamp" slogans.

One observation I've had is that these people tend just not to think things through. It's like they're unable to do second-order (and beyond) thinking, so they're always shocked by unexpected consequences.

That ain't gonna work for me, brother. I agree there are a lot of good people who are being hurt, and good people who did the right thing and voted for Harris. I would drop everything in a second to help them.

Unfortunately, we don't have a list of who voted for whom in this country. Since I can't verify if you voted to stop this madness I can't help you. Because, when it comes down to it, my desire to see people who voted for this or didn't vote at all enjoy their consequences outweighs my desire to help people at all.

We raised our girls on volunteering for service to the community. Can't count how many roofs we've been on for habitat for humanity, how many meals we've delivered, and how many hours sorting and stacking boxes at the food bank. All of that stopped the night of the election. I will not use my time and resources to support those who voted for, or failed to vote against, having me and my family persecuted. And there's well over a hundred million of them roaming the streets of this country, and a majority of this state.

We shifted all of our efforts to animal charities. Because fuck Americans.

Mother. Fucking. This.

Check out this weekend's latest This American Life when y'all get a chance. In a rarity, they devoted the entire hour to a single story about a man going down what basically sounds like a Qanon hole and the effects that it has on the family. Basically, the conspiracy theorist dad makes a $10,000 bet with his adult son that his 10 far-out ideas will come to pass by the end of 2025, which they reveal the results of at the end of the episode. The son takes his father up on it to see if his dad can come back to normalcy after being proven all his predictions are wrong.

You can guess the results, but I think it's still worth a listen--especially for those of you who feel like you're losing (or have lost) your parents or other family members to the cult.

It looks like it'll be available to stream after 7pm this evening.

Let's not forget the acquiescent, who couldn't be moved to vote at all. A vast majority of Americans would not vote against this abortion of rational governance and plunge into tyranny.

I have limited resources of what I can do to help someone. None of those resources will go to the betrayors of the republic.

Respectfully, @InkaUtexas, it is their fault in the same sense that ignorance is no defense for breaking the law. These people need a harsh lesson in humility. They hold themselves above other citizens for the most superficial of reasons. They want pain and hardship for those other citizens or non-citizens who actually do contribute to the nation.

We may all be in the shit in a year because of Trump. Even in the shit, I will have little consideration for those who voted us there or sat passively by.

Have spent a fair amount of time in Germany the past few years.  Their cultural take on their national character in the nazi times is solid, I think.

They discuss the events leading up to, during, and after the war very matter-of-factly.  I was just in the museum on the history of the city of Frankfurt.  No whitewashing of the shit that went down, and how it went down.  Frank display and discussion of how the city got bombed to hell.  And through all of it, there's a running theme, even if it's unspoken -- "we had it coming."  There is no protest ("they didn't have to bomb us THAT much!"), no explanation or justification ("we were snookered by a really bad guy, honestly, he tricked us into being nazi shitheels!")...none of that.  Just frank "we went full nazi, and as a result, we got blown to smithereens.  The whole country.  Damn near every building in many cities.  That's what fucking happens."

That's where we are.  And that's why I say that we ALL have it coming, and NONE of us are absolved.  "I voted a different way" doesn't cut it.  If you aren't doing shit to throw sand in the gears and actively resist and fight back, then you're a willing accessory.

And yes, the time is coming, sooner than you think, where some of those decision points will include "am I willing to die to stop this?"  Y'all think I'm over-the-top, speaking in hyperbole, all that shit.  That's what people thought in Germany in 1933, too.

This time I think I actually represented your view on gerrymandering accurately.  I remember the discussion on that issue, and my concern was that it led to members of congress not representing their district’s interests, by creating districts that aren’t actually places or real communities of interest. Your view at that time was that the congressional delegation should more or less map to the way the state votes in presidential elections. Is that not your view? Has you view changed?

As you know I don’t consider you a conservative in any real philosophical sense, but I would love for more Republicans to post here.

I think, and thought back then, that areas that are majority Republican should have representation that is Republican and areas that are majority Democratic should have representation that is Democratic.

I will agree that the congressional delegation should "map" to the way a state votes...

If the state is 57-43 Republican, the representation in Congress should be close to that.  If it's 57-42 Democratic, it should be close to that.

That shouldn't be too controversial.

It’s extremely controversial. What defines an “area”, and why should the party of the presidential candidate it supports have anything to do with the party of its congressional representative?

No offense Ag, but I have never heard your defense of why gerrymandering districts so that politicians can absolutely and in total safety ignore any good ideas of the other side - and also be safe to refuse to seek  bipartisan compromise (to avoid being primaried by MAGA or a pissed off Trump) is  a good thing.

That sounds to me as valid as building our next generation battlefield tank out of grass.  I mean, I’ve never been in the military, and I’m not an engineer, but there is also a basic common sense/human experience thing that whispers in my ear - even on subjects of which I am not well-versed.

If you don’t wanna give it a go in public feel free to private message me. I promise not to share our discussion and to engage in a polite and respectful way.   But I admit to not being able to conjure one good thing that would come of that system of fully gerrymandered districts - at least not without seeing your input.

The offer is genuine.

Nm.   I should’ve read to the bottom of the thread again.  I thank you for saying that you like that idea, but you failed to say how it avoids the problems I specifically mentioned.

It’s kind of like me asking why you think all muscle cars should have four-cylinder engines, and you reply more cars should be cheaper and painted red.   Well, those two things are absolutely legitimate standalone propositions, they don’t address the obvious problem with putting a four-cylinder engine in a muscle car.

You can also look at the Senate races.  They'll generally be close to the same representation as the presidential candidate.  In addition, you can look at state legislature representation - just use statewide offices to get the percentages.

Should the congressional representation be 57-43 Republican if the state votes 59-42 Democratic?

I think the person called you out to discuss how the gerrymandering to extreme has allowed some politicians to no longer be tied to the region in which the represent and he brought this up as a continuation of a former discussion, when there was evidence that some politicians couldn't bother to show up or opted to no longer represent their constituents when forced to choose between the people that elected them or the self-proclaimed king.

The mob is kind of egging you on but it isn't really that bad, if you wanted to engage or change your opinion you could have.

But I agree that you are not a conservative.   Just like I think most christians ain't christian.   It is just a social identity label, not actually a principled position.   Here is a link and some comments about why I am correct.

  • Conservatives believe in Individual Freedom, which should mean to allow people to providence over their marriage and bodies.   Republicans do not believe in this.
  • Conservatives believe in Limited Government, that government has a separation of powers, checks and balances, and that the government is supposed to serve the will of the people not the interest of government official.   Do I really need to provide examples as to why Republicans do not believe in this?
  • Conservatives believe in the Rule of Law:  I don't really need to expand on this either.  The SCOTUS ruling that the POTUS is above the law, EOs that violate amendments, etc.  The pardoning and refusing to impeach the instigator of an insurrection.
  • Conservatives believe in Peace through Strength: especially the part about moral leadership: Tell that to Ukrainians and Kurds and a whole list of others fucked over.
  • Conservatives believe in Fiscal Responsibility:  Uh nope.  Republicans always keep blowing up the debt when in power working towards a singular goal of enriching the elites while simultaneously piling on regressive taxes.
  • Conservatives believe in Free Markets:  You republicans put in a person in power whose entire business model largely revolves around government contracts and sues public companies for not advertising.  Once again, republicans fail this one.
  • Conservatives believe in Human Dignity: except for these people, those people, Republicans value public education so much they seek to underfund it and destroy it at the local and federal level.  And of course the human dignity of having school shooter drills, also entirely the responsibility of Republicans.

And how did the people of Yucca Valley vote?

I’ll tell you this, the american people voted for leopards in november, and leopards is what we’re getting.

Yep.  Fuck the people of Yucca Valley.  Every.  Last.  Fucking.  One of them.

They fucking voted for this.  There was no secret, no hiding -- this is the agenda, this is what Trump and Elon TOLD THEM they were going to do.  "I'm going to ram a nail-studded baseball bat up your asses, with no lube!"  You vote for that.  You don't get to come crying to me or anyone else when your fucking colon is being ripped to shreds by a grinning, bat-shoving Elon.  You fucking wanted this.  Fucking smile, you won, and are getting everything you dreamed of.

No.  Fucking.  Sympathy.  Lose your jobs, lose it all, end up on the streets.  You wanted that to happen to OTHER people.  So, you indicated you are fine with it.  ENJOY!!!
