I can’t watch Meet the Press on Sunday without throwing shit at the TV when the host refuses to confront the lies and bullshit from the GOP and insist on both siding everything.

Anybody with a stronger stomach on here watch today - and can you tell us if/how much DOGE shittery was the subject?

Not Meet the Press, but an interesting post on X about State of the Union.     Like Julia Davis, I read it so you don’t have to.

Should the congressional representation be 57-43 Republican if the state votes 59-42 Democratic?

What is an area and why should the area be defined by a predetermined partisan alignment as opposed to local interests?

If the state is 57-43 Republican, the representation in Congress should be close to that.  If it's 57-42 Democratic, it should be close to that.

Well, the only way we have of determining that is Presidential elections, which may or may not be representative of a population's more "daily" voting.

In 2024, Texas went  about 56-42 Trump, so R.

Yet, the Congressional delegation is 65-35 R.

Is that close?  Or is that fucky?

I've done that.

Then the mob on here just dumps a bunch of "dumb aggy", nazi, racist, blah blah blah on me.  Then a certain someone goes through my posting history and does a lot of neg repping to, I assume, get me sent to purgatory (it's actually a thing on this site).

It's not worth my time to engage since I know that no one here actually gives a shit what I think.

Kind of a cop out, bud. At least voice an opinion to see if board does as you say. There are dickheads who do as you describe, still I'd like to read your thoughts. You're one of the first people I had a conversation with back on West Mall on Hornfans. It was good.

I'm not following this debate, although I did look at your last couple of posts and it looks like you're not really talking about any ideas.

I find it pretty unbelievable that any real conservative is being attacked by a mod on these threads because any real conservative would be viscerally anti-Trump/Elon/Russia.

If you are a conservative the right wants to put you first in line for the firing squad.

If Bill Buckley ever came back from limbo, he'd never stop throwing up.

Excellent reference to Hannah and Her Sisters. Max VonSydow delivering a Woody Allen speech was a brilliant piece of work.

Yep. One peaceful summer morning a few years ago, I stood next to his grave and just sighed. Because his martyrdom was clearly in vain.

Fucking hell.

I would argue that it was not in vain. We as human beings have a tendency to look at the here and now as being the most important part of things. One day we'll be gone and be supplanted by the next group of people doing the same thing. Bonhoeffer, and those like him, will always have someone willing to pick up their mantle and fight back against tyranny. What is happening now makes his sacrifice no less important. He is still a guidepost to how you deal with these pricks.

The shift in labor power that covid caused basically broke the brain of every billionaire businessman. Their sole focus the last few years has been putting labor back in its place, and in their minds that requires immiserating basically every American with a net worth under like $50 million. The ability to buy up assets on the cheap and further consolidate their power is part and parcel to that. Elon is out front taking all the slings and arrows on this, but they're all aligned on the goal.

This is why, if we want a functioning American democracy, when we get through this we have to eliminate billionaires via massively confiscatory taxation (and criminal prosecution for any of them that can conceivably be charged with crimes).

This is the god's honest truth.

Anyone capable of logic and reasoning is at fault. We aren't geniuses here. We came to the conclusion all this is shit rather easily and so should they. Giving people a pass for being shitty humans is not on my agenda for 2025 AT ALL. The system didn't create Trump the Rodneys of the world did. Trump looked at Rodney, saw an opportunity, and slid right in there. Rodney isn't trying to understand anyone else's plight except his own. Rodney has zero empathy for anyone but people like him. Fuck Rodney!

Of all the shocked-face-finding-out right now, Gaza, really?

I mean, if you thought Trump was gonna lower your grocery bill, you're just an idiot who doesn't understand economics.  And you were lied to, because they definitely promised you that.

But what in the world made anyone think Trump gave half a shit about Gaza?  He didn't even have to lie to you about that.  You just assumed that anyone would be better than Biden, because you're an idealistic child.

Did you not notice all the times that Trump has expressed admiration for strongmen, like Putin, Kim, and oh by the way, Netanyahu?  Biden was the only thing keeping Netanyahu halfway in check, dipshits.

Voting age in this country needs to be at least 35 after this, if we ever get to vote again.

All that bullshit about Gaza was a cover for sexism.

Maybe not ALL but a large percentage.

What do you do now sweetheart? Well, enjoy the benefit of the new totally free Trump “Ozempic-like” weight loss plan.   And by that I mean, you don’t get anything to eat anymore and so will lose weight.

I very much like the ‘just admit you were lied to’ tactic, as it allows them to accept a different opinion without admitting they are the dumbest, most gullible people on earth.  Sound strategy.

This. I keep calling out @Ag with kids because he’s sincere and thoughtful and presents his ideas in good faith.
Back in the 2000’s he correctly pointed out (and I agreed, FWIW) that a huge downside of Obamacare was that it would prevent people like him (ie, people using health insurance correctly) from using the kind of very affordable HDHPs that used to exist for catastrophic care, and that Obamacare further entrenched the already severe problem of people using a risk management product as a prepayment service for routine expenses, and that it would drive costs for those expenses up. He was right!

My point is, it’s good to cultivate and not drive away Republicans who are willing to talk about issues, even if only to understand what the hell they are talking about and how they look at things, as wrong-headed and baffling as it may be (like his views on gerrymandering.

Yeah but you can't have honest dialogue with anyone here if you are in the minority as the unwashed will neg you into oblivion. So if I were @Ag with kids with kids I wouldn't want to lose access to the Surl over a difference in ideology. Until we stop negging the shit out of people we disagree with honest dialogue is not possible.

️Massive Oklahoma job loss as 600 federal employees at Tinker Air Force Base will be fired tomorrow
️ Tinker is the largest single site employer in Oklahoma

Massive might be overstating it.  I think they are close to 25,000 military and civilian employees at Tinker.

That would be 2 to 3%.   More of a nothing burger I’m thinking.

Fo’ sho’!  Never said differently.  I only suggested that 2% was not a massive cut.   Now, if 600 people represent the ethnic cleansing of top management personnel, that would be something else to consider.

Instead of 600 scattered throughout that metro area, I prefer to picture a concentration of 600 empty houses, making up an entire neighborhood and falling into Detroit-style disrepair.

In fairness, one of my old man's high school buddies worked his whole career at Tinker.  We would periodically visit them at their home in Moore.

I enjoyed those visits very, very much, because dad's buddy had a daughter a year older than me who was a ridiculously attractive brunette with very large attention-getting.....things that got Brisket's attention.  Brisket had it bad for her, for many years.

Brisket has since learned that yes, she is an okie through and through, she is a single mom, lives on gov't assistance, and moved back in with her folks.  And, per my dad based on his last visit there, she looked like hell.  50 okie years is like 90 regular years, I think.

600 will have an impact. That is 600 rents/mortgages. 600 + car payments.

Thinking one for one is wrong. It is why cities fight so hard against BRACs at bases.

And it depends on who these people are. What other jobs are there for them in the area?

That's fair, which is another reason not to do it. I don't like that this forum is a progressive echo chamber for multiple reasons - one being the long time relationship with other posters, and the other being that echo chambers tend to produce ill-considered opinions and an inability to defend one's point of view, both of which are deadly for both progressives and the Republic at this moment.

This. There are increasingly fewer places in the public sphere where we can have honest dialogue. Surl is generally one if you’re in the CR, and I want to preserve that.

I would support consequences for the strange serial neggers with enough free time to pour through posting histories for neg targets. Perhaps a limit of negs per day with an automatic timeout for the rest of the day when you hit the limit.

Thanks to mods too for Ana’s recent timeout following typical disingenuous shitposting.

My rule is to only neg: 1) lies, 2) trolling, and 3) bigotry. If someone comes in here and can't avoid doing one of those three things, they're not worth talking to.

It doesn't help that like 75% of the conservative voices are actually just 2 different trolls who keep making new accounts and rightfully getting negged for troll bullshit.
