What is that, Aramaic?

For most New Testament stuff, mostly koine Greek (remember, the Gospels were largely WRITTEN something like 70-100 years, or longer, after-the-fact).  For OT stuff, mostly Hebrew, but some Aramaic there.

Wait, they weren’t first hand accounts written by the people who were there, near contemporaneously?  Shocking.  How is Jesus quoted with the red letters?

Exactly. Most people don’t know this, but there are subtle distinctions on the Bible’s direction on in-vitro fertilization due to language differences.

We need to start seeing Affliction and Monster stickers on the backs of trucks again. These guys will disassociate from disappointing political reality and need a new badass cool dude club to show everyone they belong to.

When the Ed Hardy shirts start coming off the shelves again that will be the tell

Now explain the writings from the Apostles that are excluded from the Bible.

Sure - per my wife, the reasoning is a stewpot of legitimate concerns about authenticity and good old-fashioned "we don't like what this says because it would threaten our personal political interests/goals, so let's exclude it."

The "Bible" is a mess.  Insisting that you're studying the full measure of Christianity by just reading the English translation of certain writings that were approved by politically motivated men is a recipe for missing the mark.....AND, because there's so much play in the steering wheel, "the mark" is always going to be impossible to hit perfectly.  So, some humility and some "but we may have this wrong" is necessary.

Yeah religions realize pretty quickly that they will fail if they keep this line.

She specifies the NY office of the FBI, which is notoriously a bunch of Republicans who've been ratfucking Dems for years. It wouldn't really make sense to target them in the purge. This feels like Bondi and some others in the administration had actually convinced themselves that a lot of Epstein files were way more damning for Democrats than Republicans, while the New York office knew the truth so hid/destroyed them, and now they're all scrambling for some explanation for why they don't have anything on any Dems.

I feel like you haven't been watching closely. It's not enough to be Republican to be safe. You have to be a certain type of Republican. In fact, not being enough of a certain type of Republican is the best way to commit political suicide right now.

This isn't about purging Democrats. This is about purging anyone who is not sufficiently loyal.

If someone tried to tell me the FBI traditionally has been a Democratic Party bastion in the federal government I'd laugh in their face. It's not a matter of if the FBI has been sufficiently progressive or conservative in their outlook. The Trump administration wants complete control of the domestic security force.

Judicial system.

Military.

Internal police force.

That's how you take over complete control of the government. After that you control other mechanisms, too, including the media. but first you need to control the judiciary, the military, and domestic security. If the Trump administration has their way, I assume we're going to see some mechanism to purge judges at some point. Could be a reconstituted FBI that does it, if they're successful.

In California, property taxes are based on original purchase price, with an annual limit increase of 1%.

My neighbor's property tax is 2x mine because I bought the house before the sharp increase the past few years.

There is no fuckery with annual assessed values, so it's predictable on how much I'll owe every year.

State income tax is progressive and tops out at 12.3%. We're in the 9.3% bracket (thought it was 10%. So yay?)

Heretical as it is, I often feel like arguments over biblical details are like listening to two Trekkies scrutinizing minutiae of an episode for meaning.

These are stories written long ago by fallible humans with their own agendas, followed by generations of informational decay as the stories are translated and passed down. If you believe the words represent inerrant directions of your God, good luck with that.

I made this argument to my college roommate, who happened to be a Baptist preachers son.  His answer?  Oh, God makes sure that doesn't happen.

Reference my comment above, "My word is The Word."  When you are just a vessel for God's word, well then, whoever challenges you must be incorrect.

I’m 100% aware Texas is a high tax state especially if you have an expensive home.

but yall all assume we are selling our house and moving 100%. We will do what we have to do to comply with residency requirements but my ex is here and my kids are 3 years out from graduating….. so we will have two houses and income tax in an income tax state and property tax in a high property tax state for the next 3-4 years. So we will be penalized until we can sell and move completely.

I am not going to be the asshole that these others are trying to be but I think you are making a huge mistake here. We keep hoping this administration will stay on the rails and be somewhat civilized but all that has jumped the shark. I personally think Trump is officially a dictator and we are very close to some marginalized community being persecuted and I don't mean verbally. They usually come for the smallest community first and you are part of that community. I would not only get away from here as fast as I could but I would also have a go bag for leaving the country at the ready. I think it will get that bad.

She should pull herself up by her garter belt, become an escort and start an onlyfans.  It not only won't cost her anything, she'll actually be paid to be fertilized.

She needs to be quick, though.  The going rate is inversely proportional to the price of eggs and other inflationary pressures.

1) She needs money.

2) She should become a whore.

3) It is the only value women have in this new society anymore (whore or baby factory)

4) And hey, look on the bright side, she can fuck all day long and not get pregnant!  The income opportunities are limitless!

She voted for that hellscape.  Now she gets to live in it.  Fuck her.

I figure they're going to come for OnlyFans at some point. You can't give women the economic freedom they get from OF! How will you keep them under your thumb when they can make millions without a man? Won't anyone think of the incels?!

And also in CA, you can move to another home and take your "old" property tax bill with you.   So, Superhero paid $500,000 for his house, which is now worth 1.5 million?  He can move to a new home and keep paying the property tax on the old $500,000 purchase*

I don't think someone is a dictator until they establish a rule for life. In Trump's case that likely wouldn't be long anyway. Often we'll see a handpicked successor, but that's always fraught with difficulty, since the first person the new ruler would want to eliminate is the former ruler.

As long as there's a realistic possibility for a transfer of power, it's not a dictatorship, in my opinion. For example, Putin is a dictator. Erdogan, as much as he makes it extremely difficult to unseat him, is not so far. That said, at this pace it's hard to believe we're going to have fair elections at the midterm. But we'll see. Part of the issue currently is that Trump and his allies have control over the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court. If any one of those was in the Democrats' hands it would be extremely helpful.

I don't think we have to speculate what community they're going after first. They're going after immigrants. It's obvious they're going to go after the Muslim community at some point through various means, although that's challenging because of the need to stay on good terms with Arab rulers. They're also going hard after transgender communities. But anyone who disagrees with any element of their policies is subject to attack, possibly vicious, including ending careers or even violence.

I read a great article that featured someone who killed over a hundred people during the Rwandan genocide. He said he did it in part because he was a known ally of many Tutsi people and so he had to prove his bonafides or him and his family would have been killed. Then he got carried away. It was not written as an apologia. It was written to show how easy it is for people to be complicit, especially when they're ruled by fear. That's a lot of how genocides happen. They're written into our DNA. Someone seeks dominion by stoking fears, suspicion, and superiority over some other group. When they take power it's either a with us or against us mentality. The people perpetrating the violence are either believers, opportunists who want to be on the winning side, or people who don't want to be considered disloyal for fear of reprisal.

I honestly don't think we're that far off from establishing a surveillance state. I don't think it will happen tomorrow or the next day, but it's obvious there's no limit to what the Trump administration and its allies will consider in terms of taking control over the government. The technology is available. Maybe I get a door knock at some point because of posts I've made on message boards. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility, that's for sure.

It's being reported today that SecDef as ordered that any cyber Intel units targeting russia stand down.  Do you suppose THAT could have anything to do with upcoming elections?

Posted (edited)

@Thatguy the go no go is in the hands of the Texas legislature and to a lesser extent Congress. There are two laws in Texas one IDs and two prohibition on gender affirming care for all persons that we are watching. Laws passed in the session go into effect September. So we have a little time.  But yes, interaction with law enforcement can cascade very quickly to incarcerated on a pretext and next thing you know I’m fighting not to get raped. And if the prohibition on care is passed there is an affirmative requirement to stop care and wean off any hormones. So I could be be arrested or fined for being trans. We are acutely aware how slippery the slope can be. If it’s just Texas we go out of state but if it’s the feds we flee. There’s a reason why we are spending a month in Mexico this summer.

I don't know. I just know it's going to be extremely important for those in power to hold all the key sources of power. Especially having a majority in the House and Senate. It's going to be extremely challenging for the Democrats to go after any initiatives that work in the Trump administration's favor. The courts are our only real hope.

Even if the Democrats win the House or Senate - or both - it won't mean the threat is over. But it sure would at least force the administration to show their cards and force a confrontation. I hate to say this, but we need a constitutional crisis. An action so bold by the Trumpists that everyone can see we've crossed the Rubicon. Honestly, I thought that's what January 6th was. Our democracy is on the precipice of ending. Where do you stand on that? (the general you).

Congress can at least investigate and block legislation, force a shut down, etc etc. dems will take the house in the midterms, that’s enough to at least so these things. Take the senate and you block all judicial appointments. I’d just shut it the fuck down.

Republicans are in charge on oversight for the time being. If and when Democrats do take the House, they'll still have the problem of forcing witnesses to testify so long as Donald Trump controls the Justice Department.
