That's what I'm scared of. It doesn't have to be 90% GOP. 55% is enough. The filibuster in the Senate is on its last legs, so won't need the 60 votes there. Weaponize the FBI to investigate any Democratic candidates that win close elections.

Yeah we are assuming it’s over. We are assuming it starts in earnest sept when Texas laws go into effect. We will change residency to a blue state first and if Mexico this summer goes well we may hire counsel to start that process for residency. Lots to consider, lots of variables, do my kids need to flee, can I still work, will they pass laws to take away my right to work in a regulated profession, other countries possible too just not really sure what we will do. But we are preparing.

I’m in deep red East Texas. As expected, the Leopards are gonna feast out here. Recent post on FB:

I read this and despite the warning in BOLD LARGE FONT, I'm going to comment: no need to use bold large font. We get it, you are affected directly because you voted without using your brain which isn't surprising because the one you have is rather insignificant.

And also in CA, you can move to another home and take your "old" property tax bill with you.   So, Superhero paid $500,000 for his house, which is now worth 1.5 million?  He can move to a new home and keep paying the property tax on the old $500,000 purchase*

I love yall to death but I don't understand yall at all. First of all, a dictator is a dictator when they break democracy and funnel all power to their desk. Whether that is two years or twenty it holds true. He has installed loyalists everywhere except the military and that is coming since he fired everyone that wouldn't bend the knee already. He is currently steamrolling our democratic processes with barely any opposition at all. Give it a month or two and the few judges who stand in the way will have been put down. Why you guys are holding out hope that some person with a cape is going to come in and save us is beyond me. Especially after everything you've seen to this point. It's over.

About going after immigrants. They will ship off enough to balance their numbers but they are smart enough to know they need them for manual labor. It's all about appearances. However, they are quietly passing legislation about the Trans community very quickly. They are basically making their existence illegal all together. At this pace they will have gotten it done in a year.

Who are y'all? I'm one person.

Name a dictator who has been voted out. A dictator who holds power for two years and then is voted out of power is not a dictator. We still have the voting system until that's completely superseded. Not saying it won't be, but it hasn't been, yet. Not to mention his mortality. The dude is 78.

And he still has to make his play with the judicial system. He either has to use some kind of mechanism to purge the federal judges who are appointed for life or he has to ignore their rulings. We'll see how that goes.

Mrs. Wood (no pics) just got home from her sister's. Told me a story about how my BIL tried to get her sister to vote for Trump, because he'd make more money at work if Trump won. I'm sure you can see where this is going. He was already making $250-500K a year. Maybe more. Anyway, she told him she was gonna vote for whomever she wanted. Got the news this week that he's been laid off because of one of Trump's policies. Not sure which. Sister is ... unimpressed. Leopard's eatin' good tonight.

They're fucking morons and think their agenda is popular.

The point is that they don't have to give a shit.  Popularity and votes are no longer irrelevant.  Authoritarian regimes don't care about those things, because they no longer need them.

@Thatguy the go no go is in the hands of the Texas legislature and to a lesser extent Congress. There are two laws in Texas one IDs and two prohibition on gender affirming care for all persons that we are watching. Laws passed in the session go into effect September. So we have a little time.  But yes, interaction with law enforcement can cascade very quickly to incarcerated on a pretext and next thing you know I’m fighting not to get raped. And if the prohibition on care is passed there is an affirmative requirement to stop care and wean off any hormones. So I could be be arrested or fined for being trans. We are acutely aware how slippery the slope can be. If it’s just Texas we go out of state but if it’s the feds we flee. There’s a reason why we are spending a month in Mexico this summer.

The worst will come from the neighbors that you trusted.

Anybody that voted MAGA is for sale, because of the pain they're experiencing.  If it'll curry favors, it's a foregone conclusion.  They were in it for others pain, not their own.  So anything that will relieve their self inflicted burn will suffice.

Not being told "thank you" enough.  The psychos want Zelenskyy to end every sentence with those words and it still would not be enough.

I think Biff has mentioned he lives in Hyde Park

Douche bros moved in last summer. Only house in the neighborhood with a dotard sign.  Have seen the Bevo trailer parked there a couple of times.  One also has an F150 Raptor with a custom plate that reads 1776A.

They are super cool.

And that asshole had to add that he “supports government cuts”.   So yet another example of ‘please bring pain to everyone else but not me daddy Donnie’ selfishness.  He even still has a job but because he has to work harder in the future, he is annoyed.

Fuck that guy. I hope he loses his job eventually, and then house.

Holly Whitebread. Go for that name change. You know you want to.

How long until trump outsources running the national park hotels to the highest bidder? May of this year?

FWIW, they’re already outsourced to a third party concessionaire with Xanterra being the most prominent one.

Outsource the hotels?    He's going to sell the entire park system for commercialization.  Whose ready for the Buc-ees Yellowstone Conference Center and National Park?   The Vail Resorts Grand Teton National Park and Ski Area?  It's coming.

Weird.  My dad lying to me about how the Ninth Armored and the Big Red One liberated camps in the Flossenburg system near the Czechoslovakia border with Germany.   He seemed so affected by seeing all of those dying women prisoners.

And now Carly tells me it was all a lie and Nazis were the good guys.

She needs to have cherished Nazi symbols tattooed over her body and be parachuted nude into the Russian lines.  The tattoos will start the conversation and she can educate them as well.

The whole problem with your premise is, we do not vote for parties in this country. We vote for candidates. When you are hopelessly gerrymandered, you get de facto voting for parties.

Sure.  I agree 100%.

But...

The odds are generally that the candidate that you support is a member of a specific party that you also tend to support (or that the other candidates that you support belong to).

Most Democratic candidates espouse policies consistent with the Democratic Party political platform.  Most Republican candidates espouse policies consistent with the Republican Party political platform.

Most people lean one way or the other...very few people are truly in the center (the true center, not the "mainstream" center).

You have to apportion the seats in Congress, state legislatures, and local areas SOMEHOW.

Please explain how you would do it so that the largest amount of people get representation from representatives that share their policy beliefs that does not use any kind of political party as a proxy.

They literally have algorithms that will draw districts that are representative of the local communities and are nonpartisan. I would use those

also did you miss my other questions or are you unable to answer them?

Oh hey you’re back. The bolded section above is all bullshit, but let’s imagine for a moment that it was true. Since local interests usually transcend all that bullshit, maybe you can answer the question I’ve been putting to you for twenty years.
