I guess feel free to point out an example via quote.

We can go around the whole country tagging bills in state houses that are absolutely batshit.

All around the country? Can we? Seems like Texas is leading the charge on "batshit bills" these days.

Telling someone else to "touch grass" at 2 in the morning then you're back here at 5am. Way to live it up and take full advantage of your oh so cherished freedom while calling out others about wasting their lives on the internet.

Do you have a hard time reading a clock, or is it subtraction that you struggle with.

Because leaving a state where you're anchored by career, kids, etc. is the same as leaving one forum on an anonymous internet site.  Jesus, man, keep doubling down on your heartlessness.

Sorry Caleb.  Not really, though.  You chose....poorly

Caleb Ragland, a soybean farmer in Magnolia, Ky., voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Now, however, he has to navigate a tariff minefield at a time when the sector is already facing major headwinds.

Ragland works with his wife and three sons and has deep roots in the community. His family has been farming on the land for more than two centuries. But in recent years, he has seen a double-digit percentage decline in crop prices while production costs rise, with soybean futures having gone down more than 40% over the past three years along with corn futures.

As pressures mount in the industry as a result of tariffs imposed by the second Trump administration — as well as retaliatory levies from other countries — he’s worried about the longevity of his business.

“My sons potentially could be the 10th generation if they’re able to farm,” Ragland, who is also the president of the American Soybean Association, told CNBC. “And when you have policies that are completely out of our control – that they manipulate our prices 20%, 30%, and on the flip side, our costs go up – we won’t be able to stay in business.”

“We’re already at the point that we’re unprofitable,” Ragland said. “Why on earth are we trying to add insult to injury for the ag sector by basically adding a tax?”

Ragland pointed out that he “appreciates the president’s ability to negotiate” and wants Trump to be successful for the sake of the country. However, he emphasized that those in the industry, especially soybean producers, don’t have any “elasticity in our ability to weather a trade war that takes away from our bottom line.”

“Folks are upset,” Ragland said about sentiment from other farmers, stressing that they all need relief through deals that reduce barriers to trade and a new five-year comprehensive farm bill – legislation that provides producers with key commodity support programs, among others. “You’re talking about people’s livelihoods,” he remarked.

Yes, troph used hyperbole when she said Texas has become "unlivable."  I saw her recently, and can confirm that she's in fact quite alive, and not by means of a ventilator or other medical assistance.  She used the term to express her feelings toward an elected official -- hardly a lone ranger unless you're completely obtuse -- introducing a bill to criminalize her very existence.  Rather than a "gosh, that really sucks," or just fucking letting it go, you use it to express heartlessness toward her legitimate feelings, like you're taking amusement at her reaction to a political environment that directs hatred toward her and others like her.  What the fuck?

That was GenXer, not troph.  But good talk.

When legislation is being introduced that makes it a felony for identifying your gender to your employer, that’s unlivable. Next up, it’s a felony for being a diabetic.

Also, the CR analogy is lousy. There’s no felony legislation being introduced in the state of texas for posting in the CR if your avatar is jimi hendrix.

Also by dismissing this bill, you want us to ignore that this state is actually run by 2 Christian Nationalist oil billionaires who support this type of legislation. Originally, it was only about protecting kids and now when they begin to show it’s about more than the kids - let’s just ignore it.

This shit is wrong and anyone who actually supports individual liberty should be calling this shit out.

No debating the merits here, but the bill snip that was posted was related to identifying your biological sex, not gender. FTR, in our current society, I am not sure that we should have to tell the government nor our employer either.

This is not a defense of ana at all, and he needs to quit being a piece of shit or he's gonna get another time out.

There is a problem that I've alluded to emerging all over the board and it's hysteria and mass hyperbole for things that are serious, should be taken serious, should be discussed, but are not in effect, the effect is being overblown and/or the reasoning behind what is and isn't going to survive the courts is being ignored.

This bill is extremely serious and an indictment of how outrageous and harmful hateful rhetoric has gotten and turned into straight hateful policy. Does it get passed procedurally or not? There's a chance, but not a good one. That's besides the point for the discussion though.

The focus should be on the discussion, not saying completely hyperbolic nonsense like "Texas is unlivable" in a non ironic, non funny way. Much like the focus of the discussion shouldn't be dismissive of such invasive, and frankly unamerican, untexan policy being introduced by shitheads who are elected.

Everyone needs to do better, but Anastasis is a different problem entirely. Quit fucking with people and keep the discussion going without the hysterics and being shitty to eachother.

Oh, and of course, let's not ignore that our AG and leadership has openly stated that they are looking to take a case to SCOTUS to overturn Lawrence v. Texas, which if accomplished (and under this SCOTUS, chances are high), will immediately criminalize same sex couples from engaging in oral or anal sex.  Not later, not after debate, IMMEDIATELY, because the law is still on the books.

Quote

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) said last week he would back a law banning the act of sodomy if the U.S. Supreme Court were to overrule a case deeming it unconstitutional.

But, you know.....touch grass.  Just make sure you don't touch ass of someone of the same sex, or you could face decades in Huntsville.

"And they'll know, we are Christians by our love, by our love.

And they'll know -oh we are Cristians by our love."

There are so many reasons why passivity is cowardice (and I'm as guilty as anyone) but for the last decades one could at least accept an argument that the business of government wasn't charity or love or care, no matter how silly that argument was.  People will try to fill in the gap if their neighbors are wanting, sure, I get the argument, even though human nature kind of proves otherwise.

But when the laws are clearly only about engendering and acting on hate -- most of the US wasn't enacting those laws since LBJ and the Civil Rights Era.

(Okay, I'm a bit hair-trigger these days.  Just because this probably won't pass doesn't mean that I should be mad at myself for remaining so passive.)

Well, the inputs (purposeful cruelty of the ignorant masses) ARE predictable....so my response certainly should be.

That's the point.  We are running time-honored plays.  They are proven to turn out the exact same, predictable way.  And the only way to turn away from those plays is the way that it's happened before, thus making THAT path predictable.  That's my whole fucking point.  Nothing new is happening here.  We're walking down a well-worn path, with well-worn pathways.  We KNOW where we're going, and we KNOW how this ends.  Yet....we're doing it anyway.   Which is so, so, so fucking stupid and self-destructive.

Talk about muting the truth here.

Firstly..um..he's considered maybe the best CEO in modern banking history. I don't think there is much debate. He's tenure at Chase is best illustrated with the analogy that Dimon joining and taking Chase on the historic run is like Saban when he came to Bama. Love him, hate him, he's the GOAT.

Also regarding your comment on his political soundbytes: he's a blueberry in the tomato soup in the high finance world in that he's way more liberal than most in his position would be, both publicly and privately. The derogratory nickname for him from his bankers at JPMC is "Jaime Biden".

I will suggest that as a member of the bar, I do work that I will never discuss on a public message board, consistent with my ethical duties and restrictions.  Thus, if you think that the only thing I am doing with respect to the future of our society and government is posts on a message board, you are incorrect.  And for the stated reasons, I will leave it at that.

I will suggest that most people, in their professional or personal lives, have things they can do to resist, put sand in the gears, take a counter-offensive, etc.  Many of those measures can be quite effective, especially as part of a concentrated and coordinated effort.  Take advantage of your position and the opportunities it presents.  And know that it is likely that the rest of the world won't see what you do in the light of day because you are not doing it performatively for cameras or TikTok or shit like that.
