And prisons. That $11 is bullshit and a way for them to justify needing the kids and prisoners because no one will work for $11 an hour.

This. They'll pay Wackenhut Secure Solutions $11/hr per prisoner. Wackenhut will put $2/hr on the prisoner's commissary. See, we don't need illegals, we just need to start policing the blacks and browns like in's 1960 again. Get caught with half a joint in your ash tray? Congrats on your new job picking blueberries for $2/hr! MAGA!

I see reports Sec Def Pete having confidential/classified discussion on signal in a group that included his family.

I think I need to get on signal, and maybe I can get the early word & some inside skinny.

I saw that too. I wonder how this was leaked because I think it was just his family on the chat. On second thought, his family probably hates him too so they probably leaked it.

The only thing that would make this better is if some FEMA spokesperson, or maybe Trump himself would come out and say something to the effect that "Arkansas state revenues are showing a surplus this year, so we are going to defer to the state for any emergency relief".

Best part is I know this guy. His family owned US Express and they sold out a few years ago and now he owns Freightwaves. He came really close to being appointed a position with Trump but obviously didn’t donate enough.

So my wife and I had our long-awaited sit-down with my parents this weekend. It went... not bad?

My mother actually apologized for her vote. My dad admitted he should have at least left president blank if nothing else, and has finally realized Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton are clowns who he has vowed not to support.

There was some defensiveness from my dad about immigration that remains pretty nonsensical, but they agreed with things like deportation being out of control, January 6th and pardons being a really bad thing (still don't see how they overlooked this in November), healtchare and education gutting being scary, foreign policy being absurd. It doesn't absolve them of their votes, but I have hope that they have been nursing the kool-aid slow enough that they may be salvagable.

Somehow we didnt even really touch on the economy, which would usually be a place they'd want to direct the conversation, so I'm guessing they're none too thrilled about that.

How much of this was them capitulating so they can see their grandkids more? Perhaps a little. But they didn't roll over entirely or immediately, and my mother is not able to mask or manipulate her emotions, so I think there was real sincerity with much of what they said.

Congratulations. I hope it's sincere reflection.

My father is in the bargaining stage. He was planning to retire any year now but now I don't know. Considering he is a doctor my main alarm was he gave RFK Jr. and his autism claims too much oxygen. Not vaccinations necessarily but some external force causing a rise in non-functional autistics recently. I imagine I have the opinion of most on here but I would like to find some robust and durable research either debunking or confirming his fears. He cited two California studies but I have not been able to find anything credible.

We were also binging 'The Last of Us' and I was surprised he was annoyed at the mention of Global Warming. Dude, this hasn't been debatable for a long time now.

I kept my mouth shut and enjoyed our family time.  He has contributed far more positive to society than not.

I’ve worked with physicians for my entire career. I’ve been privileged to work with a lot brilliant minds who work to advance the field of medicine and achieve miraculous outcomes on a regular basis. I’ve also had the extreme frustration of working with and having to fire some of the absolute dumbest and most gullible human beings that think they’re geniuses that you can imagine. Your dad may fall into the latter and not the former group.

Does doctoring not involve reading, understanding, and interpreting medical opinions and studies, and being able to discern a good study from a poor one from propaganda?

Look, it is human nature to look for shortcuts to save mental calories.   Some post-docs I knew basically lived their subject matter, read it all, then read it again, but in their down time watched stupid shit like survivor because their primary passions were taxing.   I do not socialize with physicians, but I imagine some choose to go that route, while others just give you a z-pack and a b12/steroid shot and send you on your way.

The only contrition that satisfies me is attending a minimum of five protests carrying a sign that says “I voted for Trump. I was wrong.”

A public display of contrition is the only path to forgiveness.

Get your ass on the street, Dad. Document it. Because I want to show you that video when you fall for the bullshit fake crisis that gets manufactured every Oct in even numbered years.

My dad has meekly said “I should’ve paid more attention”. He’s at the end of the road and in failing health. Otherwise, I’d make him do this. He’s leaving his family with a shitshow.

The rise in autism really isn't a "rise." It's just a more accurate representation of how many people are classified as such given increased detection and a broader definition of the spectrum.

It would be like blaming the 300% increase in breast cancer cases to some environmental factor when it's not due to that at all. It's due to better early screening methods and routine mammograms that just weren't a thing a generation ago.
