Test Fail GIF by P!NK

It was amazing. This was 2016 during the campaign.

Kid was legally blind, on financial aid, mom real sick, etc. At one point he asked me for something quickly and said he wanted it because "i have to work with these government offices to get my benefits and they take forever." I asked him if he thought electing Trump, who had promised to cut staffing and funding at all these offices, would make the government quicker or get him better benefits. "It can't be worse than it is now" was his response.

Oh buddy you have no fucking idea...

I tried very hard to keep it all positive as I knew I was the only person in his life who he respected that would also gently push back on all this bullshit. He was a decent guy. Just sort of dumb.

Ended up going to Liberty U for a Masters. I'm sure they enjoyed taking his money and I'm sure he's still in debt to those great "Christians."

This shows one of the ways that we're worse off than Idiocracy and that we'd kill to have President Camacho right now. Instead of the smartest man, Trump gets the richest man to solve all our problems. Then there are no consequences for Elon's failure. If Not Sure failed, he was to be killed by Beef Supreme with a flamethrower.

100%. And this is where Democrats lose imo. It's all about the narrative/story you're telling and whether voters believe it. It doesn't matter if that story is true or not.

Trump says dumb shit like "there's fires in California because they turned off the water. We just need to turn the faucet on and the fires will stop." and people believe it. Of course it's fucking idiotic and incorrect, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is people believe it.

Also Trump has an entire propaganda machine behind him repeating his bullshit again and again and again until it becomes "truth." Just like at January 6th. A day of love where, ok sure there was some violence, but it was all Nancy Pelosi's fault!

This.  The only currency of any value to the "persuadable" voters is lies.  Tell them lies, big lies, on repeat, hammering them with a firehose of lies.

"Democrats will double your social security without raising taxes.  Republicans want to take away your social security and are installing spy cameras on your computers right now, through Elon's Starlink, so China can see everything you do."

If Joe Biden or Kamala Harris said anything half as stupid as that, the NYT/CNN/WaPO wouldve spent weeks hammering them.

Then just call those sources fake news, use the power of the government to go after publishers' other businesses, threaten the owners and their family members personally.

Those are the rules of the game now.  Play by them, or get crushed.

I'd say it's how democracy loses. We know Trumpers will never believe whatever the Democrats say. It literally doesn't matter. There is no public square anymore. These people have chosen stupidity and the only thing that could wake them up is the tangible personal damage they will feel due to Trump/Musk's actions.

You're right. Those outlets bend over fucking backwards to be "fair," which means going harder on Dems and easier on Republicans so they won't be accused of liberal bias.

Our news media is completely and totally broken. And Trump plays them like a fiddle. Meanwhile Faux News is about the best non-violent weapon anyone has ever developed for use against the United States of America.

When they a MAGA man's parents die of what could have been a treatable cancer, when his wife dies during an ectopic pregnancy, his brother lives on the streets after getting dumped out a VA hospital with PTSD, when his company president dies in a plane crash, when his kids suffer the effects of measles, and food is skyrocketing and interest rates on his variable mortgage make his home unaffordable, maybe he'll wonder if maybe he's been duped.

Nope. He'll blame it on Biden and her emails. Indubitably. And that most divisive president ever, Obummer.

Weirdly, there is an actual chance that they will blame it on their elected GOP candidates and officials not named Trump.  Why? Because when things start sliding into the giant shit abyss we are headed for, the only sure thing besides death and taxes is that Trump will be blaming it on everyone but himself - and if the Democrats are no longer in charge of the house, the Senate or the oval office, it will be a harder sell to blame it on Biden.    Sure, there will always be mouth breathers to carry his water and blame it on the dems.   But as we have seen, they will turn on anyone in the GOP that Trump tells him is an enemy. And we know who Trump has no problem turning on anyone in the GOP if it gives him the slightest advantage.

That is what so stupid about going all-in on their shitty policies from day one.  As dumb as America is, they can figure out that last month under Biden I had $6 dollar insulin and today under Trump it’s $80.    The much smarter play would have been to slow roll the dismantling of the government and preserve their ability to blame bad things on Democrats.    But Trump had to replace everyone in government with toadies and Myrmidons within two years to be able to more successfully engineer his real goal-  to end elections.

Many major media outlets are actually doing a solid job right now of doing real, actual reporting on the insane actions of the current administration.

Personally, I don't want Occupy Democrats, etc. in my news feed - their framing is just as bad as Fox News in many ways but on the opposite side.  And really, any attempts to launch a mainstream left-leaning network of opinion programs for a mass audience that is the exact inverse of Fox News (like Air America, and to some degree, MSNBC) have not been able to build a large, consistent audience - because most Democrats ACTUALLY WANT TO READ REAL FACT-BASED NEWS.

But I do not disagree that (1) fast-shrinking local and regional media coverage due to the decline of newspapers and magazines has had a terrible effect on our country's understanding of current events, and (2) Fox News (and the right-wing ecosystem it has helped foster) has done potentially-irreparable harm to our country.

they have also chosen cruelty - so long as it is cruelty to others.  That is why I hope the pain is astronomical. To them. And their loved ones.  And their neighbors.   Because that will be the only thing that might keep us away from the dark vision of our country that the GOP is trying to create into reality.

I’m old, and my parents were depression era kids.  People who suffered in the depression and we’re not able to afford food and clothes and shelter knew in the most personal way the value of progressive policies. They knew we should have some form of healthcare for free, they knew we should have some sort of minimum poverty, preventing retirement plan like Social Security.    They knew labor unions were important to make sure people had a living wage.

100 years later, people have forgotten all of those hard lessons learned.  So apparently we have to learn them again.

Yeah why did we need the FDIC again or some limited checks on capitalism, or unions, or child labor laws.

I agree with the first part.  The second, I don't know.

But this figures to be a huge turning point.  Military leaders have to respect the chain of command, but they also cannot obey an illegal order.  So, what's it gonna be when the illegal orders are coming from the top of the chain of command?

I really don't know how this one will break.

Not illegal if I'm the official act of POTUS. Done.

Corporal, minus leadership role. It's a rank you slide into after a year or two if you don't punch the captain. When I was part of the Spec 4 Mafia, I thought of it as "High Private."
