Again, what does any of this have to do with the deficit? No one is holding rallies to support fraud on the government (actually, arguably Trump is), which, by the way, isn't the same thing as "government fraud". Government fraud is telling people you'll pay them and then not doing it. Fraud on the government is getting the government to pay for something it shouldn't, like when a bunch of the small government conservatives made claims for Covid relief for their businesses, but didn't actually have any employees or business harmed by Covid and didn't use the relief money to pay anyone but themselves.

Also,  just so we are on the same page, $200-$500 billion, while a lot of money, is only 3%-7% of the yearly budget.

So your argument seems to be "I'd rather move forward with an idea everyone knows is shitty, than plan out a good idea instead." Which, without further elaboration, is just moronic. If you think Trump/ Elon's current methods of slashing essential government workers in order to shave pennies off the budget while trimming the federal tax income by trillions are a "good idea," feel free to explain.

Now we just wave away 500 billion of annual waste like its a few fucking pennies lying on the ground.

Let's run an experiment and decrease @Incredulity income by $100,000 per year and decrease his costs by $500 per year and see how it works out for him. Maybe then he'll be able to explain it.

Again, I don't think you understand what that report means when it says the government is losing money to fraud. You don't fix that problem by reducing the size of payroll of the government. You fix it by not letting people like Elon promise to provide services in exchange for payment from the government and then not actually provide those services.

I understand it perfectly.

No one in the federal government can identify what the fuck they are paying for with billions of payments.  If DOGE gets that fixed I will gladly sacrifice several hundred thousand bureaucrats jobs.

Aww it's so cute when they just repeat whatever Dear Leader is saying. I wonder what other things they're going to copy from great fascists of the past.

I'm all for prosecuting and locking up all the Republican small-business owners who defrauded the government out of billions of dollars of pandemic relief funds.  Something tells me you're not. Maybe it's your support for Elon and his little band of nazis firing all of the people who could actually do that.

And, again, reducing payroll doesn't help reduce fraud. It increases it because you're literally firing the people whose job it is to identify it and prosecute it.

"we can't get rid of the people who have allowed rampant fraud on their watch" is a hell of a take.

Roll with it, the Democrats generally are, and see how it works out.

So, you’re happy to “sacrifice several hundred thousand bureaucratic jobs” in FDA, EPA, USDA, the National Park Service, etc. (as Elmo is doing now), because the huge military budget lacks sufficient accountability?

Interdasting

Really enjoying the new MAGA post office discourse and the complete lack of awareness that Amazon, FedEx, and UPS don’t function without USPS.

But I honestly hope this happens.  Between once a week mail delivery, cutting government jobs, slashing Medicaid and Social Security, and tariffs it’s almost impossible to imagine a program designed to inflict more pain on MAGA’s voter base.  Enjoy it, rural old America.  It’s even funnier because you’re all too dumb to realize you did it to yourselves. LOL.

Prove the fraud! “Fraud” is just now code for “spending I don’t like”. The actual inspector generals had offices and budgets and their jobs were- get this- to root out waste, fraud and abuse. And they all got fired without new replacements. Those people had to hold actual investigations and then make public findings. Now Elon posts lies and then impounds funds appropriated by Congress. What a great system that is definitely about fraud and not just showy bullshit to distract from firing all the regulators trying to hold his companies accountable

No, see, the fraud is "rampant."

Anecdotal discussions of "fraud, waste, and abuse" are fucking meaningless.  Sure, any one of us can find a dozen stories of someone defrauding the government -- a dentist who bills medicaid for procedures he didn't perform, shit like that.  In a country of 350 million people, there will be lots of examples.

But the STATISTICS on it are what matter.  What percentage of the total medicaid budget is lost on fraudulent claims?  THAT'S the number that matters.  Just like stories of kids stealing packs of chewing gum from 7-11 are bad....but if 7-11's shrink rate is under 2% (which from what I see, it is).....sure, theft sucks, but it's a pretty minimal hit on the bottom line.

The Medicaid fraud rate, estimated by the most aggressive group out there (the lawyers who would bring qui tam claims that get them PAID) is 6.4%.  And yes, 6.4%of the Medicaid budget is a large dollar amount to you and me....but it remains 6.4% of the budget.  AND....if you want to eliminate the 6.4% of fraud from the budget, slashing the budget INDISCRIMINATELY by 6.4% is as dumb a fucking approach as you could take.  Seriously, any business school analysis (not even graduates) would tell you that's pretty much the LAST thing you should do to solve that problem.

Dumbest.  Fucking.  Timeline.

Pretty much me too.  Though in addition to anger of their individual situations, I would add straight up bigotry, xenophobia, ignorance and hate.  Immigration and the trans issue might well have been the two largest issues driving the results of the last election.  (Well, those and inflation, which is not a policy issue but an economic condition over which the president had not control.) What legitimate grievance could there be against those two groups?
