Oh.  You think we live in a world where there are consequences for open evil by Republicans.  Consequences for failing to be perfect only apply to Democrats.  But you, oh you....

Yeah.  It's truly like none of y'all have been paying attention.  The Republicans can burn a building down, on live TV, then stand out front of the ashes and lament how the Democrats did this.

This meme is ironclad law now:

My wife’s favorite thing to do on vacation is to order coffee at a local place that professes to have good coffee, take one sip, and tell me how bad it is.

I’m not a coffee drinker but I know that good coffee is costa rican, light/medium roast, pour over.

Any issue with getting top quality coffee beans portends badly for me.

You guys think the add-on price for guacamole is ridiculous now, wait until we can’t import Mexican avocados.

but the real shit hits the fan when they decide to add tariffs to “commiefornia” grown farm goods.

By the way - and this is really important: those of you who contribute to charities, help people out, and do things to insure that people in society aren't hurt as badly.....STOP DOING THAT.

I'm dead serious, and I'll tell you why.  We have to let the pain happen, unabated, with no interference.  We have decided to touch the hot stove.  If we keep putting something between society's hand and the scorching burner, we will never, ever learn that hot stoves are dangerous and should never be touched again.  The American people will not understand the impact of their choice here until they feel....the full, accurate, and unmitigated impact of their choice.

It is going to suck to watch people suffer.  It's going to be heartbreaking.  But think of it as a parent would; sometimes, you have to let your kid fall and bleed for them to learn the lesson.  You tried and tried, and told them not to do risky thing X, but they made it clear that they are going to do it anyway.  So, the only way for them to learn that risky thing X is indeed a terrible idea is for them to feel the full bore of the pain that comes from doing risky thing X.  It kills you to watch them fall and hurt themselves.  But in the end, it's the right thing to do.  It's the only way.  It's stupid, it's painful, it's maddening....but it is the way.

The American people will not learn about the face-eating nature of leopards unless and until they actually feel the agony of the leopards chewing on their face.  So, stand back.  Take care of you and yours.  And let the leopards feast.

Completely agree. It's why I'm cheering on the cabinet selections! The worse, the better.

Yep.  Republicans will claim things are going to hell because they weren't able to get every single thing they wanted done due to Democrat obstruction in Congress and at the state level.  We half assed it, thus the problems.  The only logical conclusion would be to vote in a super majority for the Republicans.  Then everything will be great again!

Someone's got to do something about that pesky Emmanuel Goldstein.

I can agree with some of the concept here but think there needs to be a little bit of focus here. I live in California - it didn't vote as blue as I would have liked but it is still clearly blue. My city was largely blue. What would stopping my contribution to local food bank do? For one it's hurting the people that, at least in my community, are not responsible for our national government. In addition, their suffering is essentially invisible to those with money and power. They wouldn't care if there was starvation due to tariffs / inflation.

Women's health - I am more conflicted there. I don't think I'd be able to persuade my wife to stop PP donation if I tried. I get that white women need to experience some of the real impact that loss of reproductive freedom would have but again, white women aren't really why we have the national government we do.

Local help is still necessary and good. Voting for things like rural broadband (or shit, anything rural)? Fuck 'em. Lobbying for Gaza / supporting student encampments? Fuck 'em. Not sure what else withdrawing support would do to actually impact those who are responsible.

And remember, with respect to such ventures, the BrisketCanecutter philosophy is oddly akin to Russian military strategy: quantity has a quality all its own.

Nope.  Everyone.  The people who vote MAGA or don't vote need to feel more pain.  The people who voted blue need to feel more pain, so they are even more motivated to make a change and lobby the people they know to do so.

We all need to feel the pain.  Including those of us on this board.  I mean, I'm going to try not to -- I'm going to try to profit from the chaos, because being that we've all been forcibly converted into joining the church of "I got mine, fuck you," I'm gonna pick up that hymnal and sing with gusto.  Praise the lord and pass me a chunk of your SS disability check so I can help Make America Great Again!

It's good to know that taxes on things makes things more expensive. Everyone is learning.

So you oppose the plan for across the board tariffs?

Or you support them because you believe that the resulting pain will be worth it to show the libs that taxes are bad?

Wasnt The UAW leader a vocal Harris supporter?

You are correct - I was thinking of Sean O'Brien the Teamsters president, not Shawn Fain the UAW president. Although in my defense as an Irish-American, I can only keep track of so many of these shanty micks at once.

They've done a great job of blaming the federal government when a Democrat is in the White House and the Democratic party's brand hasn't exactly been stellar here.

There's also a luck component - when a Republican has been president it's been either Dubya (popular former governor) or Trump's first term when the economy was good pre-COVID. So not much of a motive to change.

There's a pretty good chance we'll be in a recession next time around with the GOP in full control of the federal government. If the Democrats want to take advantage of the opportunity then that will be it.

That’s not doomsday - that’s exactly what happened to the slaves right after slavery was “ended.” They couldn’t afford homes, loitering laws were passed, people arrested and then prison labor replaced slave labor for a while.

Also created a roaming criminal class. You're free! You're without options to live! Don't let us catch you on the street!

And then blame them for the results. The racism used to rationalize enslaving people is tranferable to persecution.

Ain't no problem with the white man.
