I’ve seriously never seen a white guy lay concrete. Is that even a skill Americans have?

All the people I poured with in Oklahoma were White. I can still frame and smooth (not white though so okay to pay me less).

I lived in Wyoming. I’ve seen white people lay concrete, pour asphalt, and clean hotel rooms.

and, horrifically, make the food at the “Mexican” restaurants.

I don't think so. My money is that the Gaetz report doesn't get released, and MTG's threats (help) keep it quiet.

It’s getting released.  The whole “hackers might have gotten it” is cover for someone on the ethics committee to leak it.  Probably a Republican, in fact.

The French and Italians know how to eat.  The rest of Europe.....they have their moments, but as far as their general population, not so much.

I wasn’t spending a lot of time hanging out in small town Spain, but in Madrid there’s tons of dining out with great food.  I don’t think they are keeping slender by forgoing protein or because their meals are costlier for the locals and that it requires portion or quality compromise.  They do have 100 Montaditos 1 Euro Wednesday’s, after all.

At some point, being one of the "poors" became bad.

I think that’s connected to education level.  As college has gotten more attainable, it’s easier to disregard those who can’t go as intellectually inferior.  Some of that has merged into a cultural criticism (the whole Hillbilly Elegy “they do this to themselves and therefore deserve it).  Hell, that’s almost the thesis for the thread.

Every week, I grill a tri-tip and bake a large pan of chicken thighs for our two high school aged kids to eat for dinner or a snack (after school or late-night). Costs basically nothing and feeds two active teens. Throw in pasta and taco nights and we’re good to go.

COMPLETELY agree with first part of this and will add that, when I was growing up in the 1970, it was OK to admit you were poor.

At some point, being one of the "poors" became bad.

Now all the upper-class people brag about how they were raised poor. (scroll up for several examples)

The place for paella in Madrid

La Barraca

So if anyone is in Miami, there is a place called El Carajo that has unquestionably the most legit paella I've ever seen outside of Spain. Seriously over the top good. But that is only half the story. It's changed a lot since I first learned of it, but originally it was wild as hell.

I found this place during a sailing event on Biscayne back about 15 years ago. I drove down from Virginia, and a girl who was sailing another class asked if I could tow her boat down for her. So when my crew and I got down there, she took us out to dinner as a thanks with some other sailors. One of the local hosts picked a place that did real large pan paella, you call in advance, tell them your party size and roll in.  She text us the address and we head out. When we get to the place on the map, all I see is a gas station, so I'm like shit, we are in the wrong place. As soon as I start to drive off, I see her come out if the gas station quicky mart. I think to myself, wtf. So we park and go in, and literally through a gas station store, past the motor oil and the pork rinds, is a doorway to the most majestic wood paneled room with hundreds of bottles of wine. It's absolutely mind bending. Turns out the best Spanish restaurant in the states was in the back room a Miller Mart.

These days they actually took over damn near the whole building so it's not as wild. Still phenomenal food though.

Go east to the Balkans. They know their food and every valley is different. Don't hurt that each empire has kicked there ass at some point leaving a legacy in the food, especially the soups and bread.

And they walk everywhere so the fuckers stay in shape. Plus in the rural areas you want to be warm better chop wood.

Serbian women are off the chart.  Many of them are 6ft tall, green eyes, long dark hair and hot as shit.

Until they hit 40 and the ugly bomb kicks in. it is real. Warts emerge, hips get wider than their Yugo's, etc.... But that is when they know how to make sogandolma and shit. So get a young woman, eat her mom's food, then when she is about 35 tell her you side with a different ethnic group and if her uncles don't detesticle you, home free. head to next valley and rinse and repeat.

Right - they turn into round Babushkas with purple hair.  Good plan!

Don't see many replacing roofs, doing yard work or picking vegetables either.

Our recent roof replacement was manned by people with absolutely zero sense of safety. Not one company name on any of the 90's Silverados and vans.

I yelled out cuidado every time I walked out my door.
