This is rich. Fan fiction is what your entire party runs on.

Not sure which of the dozens of threads to post this in. Man, listening to this interview with Pelosi by the NYT is very discouraging. Completely out of touch and completely disregards the massive gains the GOP made in very blue states. The red flags are startling.

A good read about controlling the media

These conversations have usually proceeded along lines where people ask incredulously how a majority of voters could have believed this or that. Weren’t they bothered that Trump is a convicted felon? An adjudicated rapist? Didn’t his invocation of violence against Liz Cheney, or 50 other examples of his disgusting imprecations, obviously disqualify him? And couldn’t they see that Harris, whatever her shortcomings, was a fundamentally smart, honest, well-meaning person who would show basic respect for the Constitution and wouldn’t do anything weird as president?

The answer is obviously no—not enough people were able to see any of those things. At which point people throw up their hands and say, "I give up."

But this line of analysis requires that we ask one more question. And it’s the crucial one: Why didn’t a majority of voters see these things? And understanding the answer to that question is how we start to dig out of this tragic mess.

The answer is the right-wing media. Today, the right-wing media—Fox News (and the entire News Corp), Newsmax, One America News Network, the Sinclair network of radio and TV stations and newspapers, iHeartMedia (formerly Clear Channel), the Bott Radio Network (Christian radio), Elon Musk’s X, the huge podcasts like Joe Rogan’s, and much more—sets the news agenda in this country. And they fed their audiences a diet of slanted and distorted information that made it possible for Trump to win.

an excerpt of course, there’s more…

It was my understnading that real wages went up so their salary went up by say $12000? I do agree that such a thing is small and pitiful, democrats needed to pump out subsidies, but this is a poverty issue if handouts were I dunno 2000 a year it would have mitigated this centrist democrat failure.

And you think cutting taxes for the rich, further exploding the debt, driving cheap labor for agriculture out of the country, and driving down the price of oil to the point domestic production isn’t feasible is the way to fix that?

Donald Trump will have higher inflation, higher taxes on the poor, but will still not lose a vote if he starts handing out massive COVID style handouts, then the democrats will look like idiots not knowing why he teffloned it.

Democrats have a very very very long history of austerity most tragically by Joe Biden, we need to completely burn that from our platform, we are now irresponsible but being irresponsible is better than people being herded to concentration camps. If the ship is going down it is for the party of austerity (aka the lying GOP) to fix it for once in their lives.

That is how it works in the rest of the world and it works to keep nazism at bay. That is why I am bulllish about Musk holding Donny by the balls, let's hope we see him push hardcore austerity.

I know you are calling them hypocrites but let me rant:

Yes socialism we need to stop being afraid of labels, the GOP is not, they labelled a centrist corpocrat a communist this election, it did not move the needle in my opinion, it was the same mouthbreathing lunatics that bought it but they also called Bill Clinton a communist.

Democrats need to start getting off their high horse, stop trying to be responsible unless you can magically fix the extremely lunatic crazy MAGA fringe you need to become a populist 100%. At the end of the day I rather like in Kirchnerist Argengina, with a collapsing Milei presidency on occasion, over Nazi Germany.

They’ve been trending MAGA since 2016.  They went through Trump’s first term and went even more right.  Then Biden and Harris and even more right.  This isn’t something that just happened last week. Again, they don’t like the bullshit that white progressives are selling.  Do you know any of them?

I lived in the Valley for three years.  I can speak the language pretty well.  I still spend a lot of time in south Texas at the ranch.  I see the explosion of flags and bumper stickers and signs in places like Duval County that used to be 90 percent Democrat.

You guys don’t understand how fucked the border has become the last 4 years.  You don’t understand that Hispanics aren’t cool with transgender transitions for kids or tampons in boys bathrooms.  Or biological males playing against girls. They are mostly hard working people who are very patriotic and have traditional values.  They have nothing in common with the typical limo liberal/government worker/academic progressive on this board.

I’ve got money.  But I can guarantee I could sit down with and have a lot more common with a South Texas Hispanic than most of the supposed “elites” on this board. The two families that have worked at our ranch for decades are Hispanic.  We all break bread together every time we’re down there. Their politics probably are the same as they’ve always been. But they feel democrats have moved too far to the left on social issues. They love Trump because of this.

And that's the thing Frank. The Ds haven't moved further left socially, it's the right that has moved further right. The only thing that's been introduced socially is the Trans community. Everything else is the same. The right is just fear mongering with the biggest megaphone this country has ever seen. They have people believing that transwomen are everywhere and invading everything when in fact they are .5 of the population. For example, my daughter plays 14 tournaments a year. Each one in an arena with 100 or more courts, with 4 teams per court. We have been doing this since she was 12 and have never seen nor heard of one single trans vball player. Not one. But one plays for San Jose State so the sky is falling.

But like I said before those nice people at the border are about to find out that this isn't really about immigration. It's about the ruling class' fear that they are soon to become the minority in this country and their attempts to prevent it. They are saying immigration only because they cannot say what they want to say. However, they are letting slip the true agenda. When Trump and Vance are saying even though the Haitians in Springfield are here legally, we still have to get them out. They are also talking about no protection for anchor babies, and rescinding laws that are protecting some migrants. People who got here the right way or at least got legal after getting here are going to get caught up in the sweep too. The "good folks in the Rio Grande Valley" are going to feel this both emotionally when their buddy Juan and his family are gone overnight, and financially when they can't find people willing to work for their usual rate.

By the way, whatever happened to Democrats being for reducing the military budget? Did 9/11 basically kill that entire notion? I don't think there was any effort under Biden to reduce military spending, in fact it went up under him. Not sure Kamala has even addressed it, other than saying we would continue to have the greatest military in the world at the DNC.

That is one thing that frustrates me with both parties, neither one of them actually wants to reduce government spending in any meaningful way. Conservatives were supposed to be about smaller government, less spending, etc, but all you get out of them is huge tax cuts for the wealthy and insane amounts of debt in return. They always do the the easy part without balancing the budget on the other side.

Dems have been more modest with that stuff and trying to raise or create taxes that cover their spending, but that always comes back to bite them in the ass. We will never get debt under control if the two competing philosophies are fighting over where money is spent without balancing it against costs. I have zero hope that changes under Trump, I expect debt to balloon under him and his dumb tariffs to screw up the economic progress we have made since 2021.

He's right that Kim Ogg was the presiding DA when Limmer was murdered.  And Ogg took money indirectly from a Soros donation to a PAC.  But that was in 2016.

HOWEVER, by the time Limmer was murdered she had about-faced on that, actually at the time of the 2019 O'Donnell consent decree, which mandated cash bail reform at the misdemeanor level, meaning it did not affect felony cases. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/District-Attorney-Kim-Ogg-summons-police-chiefs-14517578.php

But, you know, bail reform is contagious.  Even when the DA presiding over the office is publicly opposed to it.  And she took Soros money years ago, so she must be secretly training line prosecutors not to ask for big bail or to consent to bail reductions.

And, while the murderer was out on bail, it was 10k, which is not grotesquely out of line with domestic agg assault.  https://nypost.com/2024/05/10/us-news/houston-gunman-anthony-landry-charged-with-murder-of-attorney-jeffrey-limmer-at-mcdonalds/

Note that this isn't an endorsement of NYP, but if they're shading it would be favoring the Soros-prosecutor narrative as opposed to what really happened.

@Balcones

You mean Congressman Moulton?

"Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face," he said. "I have two little girls. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that."

"I stand firmly in my belief for the need for competitive women's sports to put limits on the participation of those with the unfair physical advantages that come with being born male," his statement said.

"I will fight, as I always have, for the rights and safety of all citizens. These two ideas are not mutually exclusive, and we can even disagree on them. Yet there are many who, shouting from the extreme left corners of social media, believe I have failed the unspoken Democratic Party purity test

"We did not lose the 2024 election because of any trans person or issue. We lost, in part, because we shame and belittle too many opinions held by too many voters and that needs to stop. Let’s have these debates now, determine a new strategy for our party since our existing one failed, and then unite to oppose the Trump agenda wherever it imperils American values."
