Perpetual I-35 construction hell for SA/Austin/Round Rock/Georgetown

I wasn't sure where to post this but this seemed as good a place as any.

Yesterday afternoon I needed to travel to/from North Austin (near Parmer)  to Round Rock (620 west of 35) for a medical thing. It took me 45 minutes to make the trip, and an hour to get back. The actual distance covered was only 10 miles each way. This was at 2-3 in the afternoon, so not even rush hour.

As I-35 is getting torn up I'm also noticing adverse effects on surface roads like N. Lamar and Dessau as people desperately look for other ways to go north or south.

Daily traffic on E. Parmer and East 290 is a nightmare as people commute to/from Manor and Elgin, which are exploding with homes and apartments. Not to mention how Howard and Parmer are being densified by packing in big apartment complexes. All of these people are going to be driving on Parmer, 290, I-35 etc.

This is all adding up to making driving intolerable, even now. I don't know of any real plans to bring large scale public transit to outer burbs and bedroom communities like Pflugerville, Manor, etc. If it's already like this now, what's it going to be like 5 years from now? It's going to be full on bumper to bumper stop n go hell on every surface road from 6 AM to 10 PM. I don't have any solutions** but I just had to vent.

** Massive congestion fees on traffic entering the Austin area, especially for non-residents

** Ration driving--based on license plate number, cars assigned to specific driving days (MWF, Tues Th Sat, with Sunday being an open day)

** Hope for another pandemic?

** Deport everyone who moved into the Austin are after 2000?

your entire post may have been posted verbatim five years ago here or on another site.  and then even five years before that.  and will surely be posted again five years from now.

I-35 was a mess when I started school at UT in the Fall of 1984. Been that way ever since. I was always coming in from the North. Back then there were gaps between Georgetown, Round Rock, and Phlugerville so you could always find a work around. Parmer was way out of town back then.

My daughter was a student there from 2010 to 2014 and I hated the drive in every time.

Have been traveling weekly to Katy for the last 2 years.  During that time I-10 had lanes added between Brookshire and Sealy, and now they are working more or less Sealy to Columbus to add lanes.  That one started in the spring and they are roughly 50% completed.  So it will be done next year.  And yet in Austin it takes 4-5 years to do anything on roads.
