I didn’t watch a ton of their game today but they’ve seemed very unimpressive at times this season. Yet they took us to the wood shed in DKR. I can’t make heads or tails of it.

Hard to say it was just an off night for us because the main problem in that game was their front 7 dominating our offense. It sure looked like a talent mismatch at the time, not the ball not bouncing our way.

Would/should we be favored in a hypothetical rematch with them?

Quinn was off. Our OL had their heads up their asses. Kirby totally out coached Swrk, who is fantastic. It wouldn’t happen again. We won’t play them again because they’ve blown it but I’d predict a 10-14 win. This ain’t UGA from the last 3 years. Something is seriously wrong with their O.

Meh.  They outplayed us early and we got into a hole.  Then we outscored them in the second half.  We got beat fair and square and they were better than us that day but there’s no reason to think it would go down that way in a rematch.

their QB has been very consistent in the fact that he throws 2 ints per game.   He did that for us.  If we had an offense with a flip that night we would have won, I think.

Carson Beck is wrong with their O.  Etienne is solid as hell, but when you're that one dimensional, it's a problem.

Highly likely it won’t be in SEC title game.

UGA is pretty much eliminated based on their SEC SOS

Bobo has something to say about it too. So does their OL. Not all on Beck at all.

There was some early cracks that Texas didn’t take advantage of. And when miscues happen, sometimes players overcompensate and tighten up. Texas also started off with some early penalties that set them back. I thought the defense really kept Texas in that game, just needed help. Shit happens but it’s hard to beat the same team twice. All things are correctible vs not having the skill sets to compete.

What are those tiebreaker rules exactly? Their SEC SOS is tough as hell, shouldn’t that put them in a good position for a tiebreaker?

Not as good as Bama’s.

here. Have fun.

Assuming chalk (if other UT beats UGA/wins out, it will of course be them):

Quinn didn’t show up, AT ALL. It was literally just him playing like complete shit that lost us that game.

People keep bitching about the OL getting beat but it’s impossible to protect a QB that doesn’t step up into the pocket or get rid of the ball.

They didn't take us to the woodshed when you realize how shitty Quinn played and how a couple of missed plays would have had us close to tied up at various points in the game.

We did get manhandled up front but our O-line and Quinn really shit the bed. We only lost by 2 scores.

I think we'd beat them if we played again. Especially with that trash QB beck.

Welcome to the new CFB world. Top talent will be concentrated in the super conferences but then spread out within them thanks to NIL. So CFB seasons will look more like the NFL and in a long season sometimes another team with great talent plays great on a day when you play like shit.

The 1985 Chicago Bears got the shit beat out of them in a highly hyped regular season game against Miami. Now I'm obviously not saying this year's Texas team is the equivalent of that Bears team but that kind of shit happens.

Poor QB and Special Teams play. Ole Miss punter was pinning Georgia deep, they couldn’t sustain long drives. Georgia was also getting after Ole Miss too with edge pressure and stunts, you just wouldn’t know it because of how smooth Dart was moving in the pocket.

For one, between how other results on the schedule have broken and the SEC championship/CFP formats, it doesn't really matter. Just keep winning from here and everything's there for the taking.

Beyond that, sometimes it just isn't your day on the field or on the headsets, and when that happens against a good team - and Georgia, while not the borderline unstoppable juggernaut they have been in recent years, is a good team - you can get rocked like that.

We repeatedly gave them a short field. It wasn’t like they were dominating us and driving at will. Our offense was not attacking and made tons of mistakes. They capitalized.

A combination of our OL being overrated with Ewers not being 100% game them the key to shutting us down and getting short fields early. Also, Baxter’s size and abilities in pass protection were greatly missed.

On top of everything else pointed out, sometimes it's just intangible stuff. Like Desmond Howard wearing a cowboy hat, putting a toothpick in his mouth, and proclaiming, "there's a new sheriff in town!" That stupid shit encapsulates the underdog/nobody believes in us/GA vs. everybody motivation Kirby got to drill into his team all week.  We were ranked #1. We were the favorite. They had a loss. The whole "welcome to the SEC" new kid in town played a role as well. There was no message Sark could send our players to make them angrier and more desperate than Georgia. Had Georgia beat Alabama and stayed ranked ahead of us, I bet the game plays out differently.

There's also the schedule aspect we can't control. We spent the previous week preparing for and playing in an intense, emotional rivalry game. Georgia got  to play the worst team in the SEC and spend two weeks on Texas. Just how it's gonna go sometimes. We had a scheduling advantage vs. Florida this week.

Georgia still has a very good defense and Vandy is the second best team we have played.

Manageable schedules are a significant factor in the CFP.  Indiana and Penn State also have zero quality wins and both will probably host a playoff game at 11-1 with losses to Ohio State.

Great post Huck. I made a similar post a little earlier last night saying "sometimes you play like shit and a team just has your number". Also referenced Rhule talking about this and I guess I'll go ahead and post the clip because I think he nails it:
