Jake Burger was at a Nashville hospital until 11 p.m. with his daughter after her open heart surgery. He flew out at 5 a.m., returned to camp at 7:45 a.m. and hit his first homer in the afternoon.

How do you function much less be dialed in enough to go yard when your kid has open heart surgery.

This is funny, from Kennedi's mailbag yesterday.

Nathan [Eovaldi] or [Jacob] deGrom opening day starter?

It’s Jacob deGrom.

I’m willing to listen to the reasoning for Eovaldi, and would likely agree with most of those points because of what he’s meant to the Rangers over the last two seasons and during the World Series run.

But deGrom is still deGrom. The Rangers signed him to a five-year, $185 million deal. He’s the ace. When he’s healthy, he’s the best pitcher in the world. If he’s healthy, he’ll take the mound on Opening Day.

And her tweets today.

Bruce Bochy said this morning that the Rangers will slot Jacob deGrom into the back end of the rotation at the start of the regular season

A quick glance at the first month's schedule shows Texas has enough off days to act as a semi six-man rotation if he slots in at 4th or 5th

----

Basically (if i counted correctly) he'll get an extra day of rest between each of his first five starts of the season if this plan stands

I'm not against that approach to be honest....for the time being.

Mild strain and should be back by opening day. But twice in 18 months isn't good.

Interesting seeing the predictions that are coming in. All bullish. Recent mlb.com had Rangers in the top 5 WS contenders, and the top AL team.

It is a Bochy team one year removed from the WS, so he's due.

Any games yet scheduled on the cable/satellite channel? I still haven't found a 677 on Directv. At least a test pattern would be nice so I can add it to my favorites.

My provider isn't listed on the Rangers sight as having the channel.  I'm going to wait and see if it pops up in a few weeks when it goes live.  But I've already found the Victory+ on my TV in our den, so if I have to, I'll fork over the $100 to watch them.  Sucks, but better than no baseball at all.

I hate that these fuckers just take a handful of games and make them fucking unwatchable randomly on Friday night. Dicks.

Hohokam Stadium was cool but man it was cold and rainy today. The forecast didn't say it would continue to rain but it's still coming down at my airbnb in Scottsdale. Sucks to not see DeGrom but maybe he'll pitch tomorrow? We'll be in Surprise for the game.

Very cool of you to show up.

I think this is going to be a fun season.

Fuck the Astros.

Can I rant for just a bit? The Rangers gift shop at Surprise Stadium was terrible! No spring training pins, balls, bats, etc. They only had the basic spring training shirts and hats. Contrast that with the Oakland A's stadium in Hohokam that had everything you could imagine. They even had a really cool hat in the green and gold color scheme but it was a cactus instead of the traditional logo. Even the jersey offerings were limited, only selling the home white replicas.

Anyway, I had a great weekend overall. The team looks really good and I haven't had this feeling during spring training since 2023.
