So, here we are. Back to the scene of either the worst or 2nd worst game of Sark’s tenure. I’ve only seen him get out coached twice in my opinion- Arkansas 21 and Georgia this year. This game, on September 11, 2021 was just such a humiliating data point as a program that showed how inept and far we had to go.
Hudson Card and Casey Thompson were the QB’s. Shudder. The O line couldn’t block anyone. The skill position talent was ok but nothing to write home about. The defense was horrific.
it was the kind of team and program one should expect after that chucklefuck Charlie Strong shot all over the place for 3 years. And then, we had our new guy supposed to fix it and he was crouched on his haunches on the sideline in a catatonic shock. Not good man, not good.

Fastforward 3 years and 3 months and it’s night and day different. The QB controversy didn’t ever really get going this year- but if it had we’d be fighting over 2 guys probably going to go in the first round. The offensive line is the best it’s been in 20 years here. The skill position talent will play on Sundays. The defense is really good. Sark is stealing top 5 classes. We played in the last 4 team playoffs and look poised to play in the first 12 game set.

with everything that happened around the conference we control our own destiny (as I said we would after the Georgia game). I hate losing any game. But, the goal isn’t to go undefeated (ask Saban if he wants give back any of the MANY titles of his that has a loss) but to win the conference and then the national title. Those goals are right there. Just have to win. Against a team we should. But that will be pumped to run our face in it again. We owe them. Let’s make them pay.

Game Week stuff here.

So I guess you missed the Sugar Bowl last year.

The best team we’ve beaten is Vanderbilt. Many QBs have lit up that vaunted Michigan defense since Quinn. We essentially lost two first round wideouts, a first round RB, and an NFL TE. Our current cast is still elite for a college squad, but there’s more on Quinn’s shoulders. I don’t think Quinn is the kind of guy who can mask deficiencies like our weak zone blocking run game. Although when you look around the country there’s not much elite football being played. There’s not a squad putting it all together every weekend. So it’s hard to gauge what championship football looks like in 2024. I know we have a defense that can get the job done. special teams not so much. Offense has the potential to carry but hasn’t really shown it. Still, that flawed combo is enough to beat many of the teams we’ll see early in the playoffs.

Man, the Tom Herman years just got memory-holed in there.

The Arkansas loss is easily the most deflating loss of the Sark era for me, even if it was Year One. UGA this year at least was against a fully motivated defense of actual Terminators. Sometimes Georgia will do that to you, no matter how good you are. OU last year sucked hard but we bounced back immediately. Arkansas was so mid, and we were still much, much worse at every facet of the game. I thought we were on shit coach #3.

Anyway, fuck 'em, this is a bad team and a morning start, time to get scoreboard back and shit all over the end of their season.

Well said. Granted you tend to do that - we should get a beer sometime.

I think we escape with our lives in Fayettenam and then roll UK and aggy.

Keep in mind I've never in my life ever been wrong about anything.

Feels like a game that PK will dial up some pressure.

Arkansas is really bad in pass pro and they either have a backup QB or a banged-up QB. Taylor Green will also turn the ball over if you get to him.

This is for sure a game where our horse-sized D will need to make themselves seen.

It feels like Arch is more comfortable working with what the field gives him, he can throw to players who get open.. improvise, as has been said. But does hold on to the ball a bit too long.

Quinn seems like he always throws to where the play was called. Even longer passes, he launches it to the player it was schemed to go to, which is why it seems like he often overthrows guys, vs., identifying a receiver that gets open and then tactfully throwing to them. He still hasn't mastered looking off safeties, he often only looks at who he's throwing to from jump. He's kind of robotic, which works when he is on but any disruption, he doesn't improvise well.

I'm happy we are winning games, but I can't imagine we will be very successful when playing better teams who lock on to those tendencies (Playoffs). And I'm almost certain Elko and the aggies can disrupt on defense, enough to throw Quinn off unless things change dramatically within the next three games.

sure about aggy. but how are those shitheads gonna beat us when they don't have any points.

Look, we are better than A&M, but they have talent on the D-Line and the atmosphere is going to be bonkers .

I admitted they have talent on the D-line, but said it's above average, not elite. They're not devoid of talent, just that they arent  great and don't don't have an elite player on that line.

They look good against meh teams, but when we, Georgia, and Bama come knocking, they're folding. Not a single player on our team hasn't been in a rowdy atmosphere. You think Kyle Field is the god tier of rowdy? Arkansas will be much, much more insane than anything aggy does. Sark has seen it first hand, and said they hate us more than they love themselves. He'll be ready, we'll be ready.

I doubt this. Aggys have something to play for in forever on top of playing their most hated rival. We are going to need Quinn ( and OL) to be his best to win at Kyle field.

I dunno, man, Arkansas, regardless of record, wants to murder us and hang our corpses in front of the TV for the Taliban to wince.

honestly who gives a shit who we have beaten. Texas doesn't get the love from any national or even regional media anyways. it's always doom and gloom and Texas hasn't beaten anybody. I was watching sec show the other day and in the same breath in back to back comments, the chic said our best win is vandy so we don't belong in playoff rankings but since Missouri beat them in overtime they should get more love. Enragingly perplexed I tell you. honestly NCAA is nfl lite. just get in tournament, reset and get hot.

I feel like those shitheads better play better than they have ever played in their life and we play the worst we ever played in our life and they'll still lose a close one.

This is just silly.  Arkie is going to be hostile because their fans hate us.  But even though that is the case, it's an Arkie team hoping to make a Bowl and an 11AM kick.   A&M game will almost certainly be at night with the SEC Championship game and/or CFP slot on the line.   That is on top of breaking out of a 13 year cold war.  Cheapest seats @ A&M are like $900.  The atmospheres won't be remotely comparable.

Can we just admit that both teams play at a higher level when ol tu is coming to town? They both inject that cheap GNC protein powder intravenously with some Toradol to come out swinging.

However, I am more worried about Arky than Aggy. I think it's because the last time we played a shitty Arky team they raised our houses and fucked our cousins because we had Hudson Card. I want to see another week of super Quinn to make sure he can still go out and fuck them up.

Bottom Line:

Quinn with no pressure:  All American

Quinn with pressure:  Scourge of Surly

That Arkansas team wasn't actually that shitty. They went 9-4 (best season since 2011 for them) and played Alabama and Ole Miss tight. Not amazing but respectable, and our team actually was shitty.

With Card and Thompson, we had absolutely zero chance. That's the day I knew Sark realized he needed to get his shit together and stock up on elite talent so the ants meet the boot.

IMHO with Bond back and Gibson, I think the offense looked good enough.  Good enough to win an SEC or national championship?  No clue.  But it looked much improved.  Some of it was great play calling.  Some of it was Ewers and the OL playing better.  Did he play perfectly?  No.  But the improved threat from the running game, the creativity of Sark's play calling early and the quality of the defense and the team rolled.

I have no clue what will happen v. Arky or against Aggy, but as Manning said after the game when he was asked whether he wanted to be interviewed post-game - This is Quinn's team.  It ain't changing barring an injury.  Even a Georgia style egg laying will only get him benched for a series or two like it did v. GA.  There ain't any changing it based on what we type in this message board.

I saw this

Texas skill players turned in their best yards-after-catch number of the year with 277, accounting for 83.2 percent of Ewers’ yardage total on the day.

I think it is fair to say Bond makes a difference. That number seems a bit high, but guessing that factors in yards on catches behind the LOS. I thought I heard Babers say Bond has 5 TDs where he got the ball behind the LOS on 11 touches (screens and reverses).

I think the best thing for him will be to go to a team with an established starter where he can watch and learn for a couple of years. The game needs to slow down for him.

Sadly that’s rare these days. I think if he stays healthy he’s definitely good enough to take this team to the playoff final. I’m most worried about Auburn’s apparent yips

Unless something strange happens in the last few games and in the playoffs, like Quinn is constantly under pressure and he still completes over 70% of his passes, Quinn is going to be a Day 2 pick.

Day 2 picks get a season or two to sit and learn.

Yup exactly. We still need to be taking deep shots to draw potential PIs and to keep defense honest.

You know, PIs don't come when you hit the open receiver in stride.

21 hours ago, BurntOrange&White said:

No the 1st pass Moore dropped was 100% a bad throw

An underthrow would be far more likely to draw a PI and I still catchable. An overthrow... neither. It's better for Quinn to underthrow than overthrow.

The sec network people are total idiots, that have a bit of a homer attitude to the teams before we got there…. Watching those idiots talk is annoying as hell even when not talking about us.  The national media not so much, read the recent projections, most have us winning the SEC championship now.
