The first game I ever saw in person at DKR was 2003 Arkansas. Texas was #5 and a 16.5 point favorite.  Final score was 38-28 Arky, and included this memorable play in the 3rd quarter:

3rd & 30 at ARK 3

(2:50 - 3rd) Matt Jones (ARK) pass left side complete to George Wilson (ARK) for 54 yards.

Yep. Third and 30 from their own 3 and they converted. The silver lining was that VY was watching from the sidelines and taking notes for '04 and '05.

My first game ever live at DKR (then called Memorial Stadium) was in 1980 vs. Arkansas my freshman year.  We won but I forget the score.  It was in August and it was ABC's college kick off game.  It was glorious.

Tied foe 14th in Sacks in the SEC with A&M (didnt expect that) for the season

The sacks didn’t prevent these mudholings.  Look at those QBR’s.  Keep the pocket clean and this will be over by half.

Blow them away to make get this decided in the 1st half, then GET THE STARTERS OUT because piggy will start the cheapshot-intentional-injuries of star-players to cripple our ability to win a MNC, because that's the vindictive, evil fucksticks that they are.

Again, if you're driving there, get someone to quickly stand in front of your Texas plates on your car, or these hayseeds may turn the gas pump off at your pay-at-the-pump and refuse to sell you gas.

That's the lowlight memory I have of our games against the pigs. If memory serves, Mack declined a penalty on the play before and pushed them back to a 3rd and 30 instead of having them punt. What an abysmal game.

The key to this game will be the availability of Taylen Green and former Horn J. Jackson  (RB).  Those two make Ark much more dangerous.  Green is like 6'6" and  is very elusive and can make guys miss, if he's healthy.  The Ole Miss game is not a barometer, he missed the whole game pretty much and Jackson was out too. Both played well vs TN and A&M.  Yeah I know neither plays D, but if they are both back, the game has a completely different tone on that side of the ball.

Their big DE Jackson will be super motivated as his brother is a Texas commit.

Ive been hit and miss on my predictions; I figured Vandy would be a dog fight and was correct.  UF with Lagway was setting up to be tough, but i missed on that one completely.

Throw in the rivalry and this one will hinge on their star player's availability, imo.

i agree the availability of Green and Jackson have a material impact on the quality of opponent arkansas presents.

that said, no disrespect to either of them but i think every game we have remaining in the regular season hinges on our star and which version of him plays. we are better than our three opponents and win reasonably comfortably with a solid quinn. but georgia quinn makes it a far more equal playing field against them.

His very lucrative job depends on winning football games. Would you swap out Missouri or aggy for Texas on your schedule with that goal in mind?

the tweet is a trollbite carved out of larger narrative:

https://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2024/nov/11/sam-pittman-playing-a-9-game-sec-schedule-would-be-ridiculous/?sports-college-razorbacks

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman does not support the idea of playing nine SEC games each season, he said Monday.

The league is exploring expanding the conference schedule from eight games to nine, which could increase the SEC's TV revenue.

As a new era of sharing revenue directly with athletes approaches, schools are looking for ways to increase revenue and decrease spending to prepare for a significant increase in expenses.

In 2023, with the league preparing to expand to 16 teams, the SEC chose to dissolve divisions and continue with an eight-game conference schedule for the 2024 season. In March, the SEC announced that model would hold for 2025 seasons.

However, 2026 and beyond could be different.

It's an idea Pittman called "ridiculous" when speaking with media ahead of the Razorbacks' game against Texas.

"You see what's going on now: You've got two-loss teams trying to get in the playoffs," Pittman said. "It wasn't broke before. [SEC teams] were playing for the national championship...forever in our league.

"To me, eight’s plenty....We don't need nine. Everybody would be limping into postseason play."

The topic of a nine-game schedule arose in Pittman's weekly press conference with the Razorbacks preparing to face old rival Texas, a playoff contender, on Saturday. Pittman was asked whether he'd like to see Arkansas play the Longhorns more often.

One possibility for a scheduling format with nine SEC games would be each team having three permanent opponents, with the other six rotating. Texas, Ole Miss and Missouri would be Arkansas' expected three permanent opponents as part of a nine-game schedule.

The Razorbacks will play only Missouri annually as part of an eight-game format.

"Well, our rivalries, we've got Missouri, we've got a [trophy] for LSU, we've got something else for [Texas] A&M," Pittman said. "We've got plenty of rivalries. To sit here and say, 'Oh, yeah. I want to play Texas every year.' But then who are you going to trade them for?"

A possible expansion of the College Football Playoff further complicates the matter of SEC scheduling. The 12-team format is set for at least this season and next season, but some leaders around the sport want to expand to 14 teams with 10 automatic qualifiers awarded to the major conferences.

A decision on expansion is not expected until at least January, according to CBS Sports, and the SEC is unlikely to make a decision on its scheduling model until after the playoff format is determined.

In addition to the potential for more TV money, the SEC is weighing how the College Football Playoff selection committee will view teams in leagues that play nine conference games — like the Big Ten and Big 12 — versus those like the SEC and ACC, which play eight.

Under the current format, some teams with eight conference games have tried to schedule tough nonconference games to strengthen their playoff resumes. Pittman said that could change if the SEC schedule expands.

"Something about college football, you [can] go out and play somebody that you've never played before," he said. "We're going to play Notre Dame next year. There's no way in the world you're going to schedule nine SEC games and Notre Dame. We might, but we shouldn't. By that time, you're playing the playoffs is what you're doing.

"I think most guys in the league would say nine would be too many."

inre: mizzou is a pig rival....

they didn't play mizzou's first 2 years in the sec but have annually since '14

prior games:

1906 columbia

1944 st. louis

1963 little rock

2003 independence bowl

2008 cotton bowl

they played 5 times in 108 years before 2014

yup, that's a rivalry

combined with the chickenshit take on scheduling a solid P5 OOC instead of a FCS scrimmage, fuck 'em

let's just make sure we have scoreboard and it's goodbye for 12 years unless we see them in atlanta

2nd best team we’ve played this year

Ehhh third best so far (Georgia and Vandy are ahead of them in SEC standings and overall record) and will likely be the fourth best team by season's end, with aggy being the 2nd best team by record we will play.

They will finish 6-6, like Michigan, assuming they beat their November patsy (LA Tech).  Might amend them up if they beat LA Tech and Mizzou and finish 7-5

I can kind of top that as far as disappointment goes.

I've posted this story on here before, so apologies if it's repetitive.  I was living in Knoxville and one of my best friends has a wedding that day.  The wedding will cause me to miss a bit at the beginning, but I'll be at the hotel bar by the 2nd quarter.  No big deal.  IIRC, Arky jumps out to an early lead.  I'm heading to the hotel ASAP.  Get there and the GD bar is closed.  There's no TV coverage.  The reception (and drinking) begin.  I'm trying to figure something out when one of the guys at the wedding says something along the lines of, "Bummer about Texas being down 35-6 at the half".  What!?  F it, I'll just drown my sorrows in beer.  I proceed to get hammered and mostly forget about the game.

Get home late that evening and am curious about WTF happened.  Rewind the VCR.  (Yes, I was the last person in America still using one.)  Hold up.  It's not 35-6 at half.  It's 21-14!!  Holy S!  Does this mean would might have actually won?  Nope.  Proceeded to watch the 2nd half of that disaster.  Essentially, I got to experience Texas lose to arky twice in one day.

Sam Pittman is both a cunt and a pussy, and Arkansas should fire him for being a jackass regardless of what the record is.

Jeff Leiding knocked the shit out of himself and a piggie on the opening kickoff.

Classes started  next day and I missed my first opening class.  Haha.
