"Something about college football, you [can] go out and play somebody that you've never played before," he said. "We're going to play Notre Dame next year. There's no way in the world you're going to schedule nine SEC games and Notre Dame. We might, but we shouldn't. By that time, you're playing the playoffs is what you're doing.

Well, that's exactly what we're planning for '28/'29.

"“This rivalry’s been going on for a long, long time,” Sarkisian said. Reflecting on the longstanding animosity Arkansas holds for Texas, he quipped, “I was joking with the team this morning; I don’t know what Darrell Royal did to Arkansas back in the day, but they absolutely hate our guts. I think we learned that the first time around when we went there.”

1 permanent annual game + 8 makes so much sense but uga bama tenn lsu have at least 2 they say are immovable objects

if we have 2 perms we end up with aggy which sucks

the only way out of biannual pyle hellhole trips is 1 perm

No matter how much some fans of either school like to pretend it's not the case, A&M is an actual rival (like OU).  We absolutely should play both every year.

Personally I am glad to have them back. Fuck them we owe them a message in blood for the next decade to offset the 2000-2021 idiocy.

Yeah and he left Hudson Card in to bleed out until the game was too far out of reach to save. I wasn't real happy about that at the time.

I still want revenge for 3rd and 33.......those motherfuckers.  I felt my soul leave my body on that play.

I also want revenge for the 10am kickoff at the Cotton Bowl.  Cold.  Hungover.  Opie got his knees shredded.

Son of bitch.  I was at both of those games.

But the last Arkansas game I attend live was the 2008 home game, when we destroyed Petino's team 52-10.  That was enjoyable.

There is a fucking 78K post thread about them constantly on the first page of this board.  2 biggest schools in the state separated by 90 miles.  They are absolutely our biggest recruiting rival.  They are the definition of a college rival and have been for 100+ years including during this 'cold war' period where, despite not playing, everything was still constantly measured against each other.  Any other take is just stupid.  It is really fucking dumb for fans on both sides to pretend otherwise.

They are Michigan State.  Only a problem when they try and flex out of their lane.

Yep.  In several ways, my best memories are against the Aggies.

You used to not even have to check the schedule as to when you played them.  That only happens in rivalries.

Maybe they change my mind this weekend, but all year I've been hearing this and that about Àrkansas away, old rivals, throw out the spread..... I'm maybe in the minority but I don't really care about them. They were my dad's rivals and had a lot of 90s history in a conference I never knew. The first big game I remember watching was James Brown beating Nebraska. To me Arkansas is all stories and someone else's memories.

Can't imagine any of the undergrads or players give any more of a shit about hating us than any other school. They'll throw the horns down because that's what everybody does. Stomp their shit and move on. I don't want to rekindle a rivalry from 30+ years ago unless they're going to be contenders again. We already have a little brother that hates our ass.

It's wild someone can have this opinion after we all saw the 2021 game with our own eyes. It's one thing to have this opinion 3 years ago before it proved to be dead wrong. Maintaining this take now is truly impressive. Bravo, sir. You belong here.

Unless I'm mistaken or there was a one off, they've also never had to play that game in Fayetteville. They always played in sterile ass Jerryworld. Let's see what their record against Arkansas looks like going forward when they have to travel into that snake pit every other year. Almost every one of those Jerryworld games came down to the fourth quarter, too. A&M has owned the scoreboard, but they have been far from dominant on the field against them.

But I want the game every year regardless. OU, A&M and Arkansas every year plus 6 other SEC games is the way. Aside from the great big gobs of cash, it was the main reason jumping to the SEC made sense. Texas is the only school I can think of that actually gained its historical rivals in realignment. Rivalries are what makes college football great.

For some strange reason, I decided to look at the box score from that game.

Hudson Card's statline in that game resembles many of his Purdue stat lines this year.

Arkansas rushed for 333 yards.  The top 6 rushers (QB included) all transferred from Arkansas at some point:
Trelon Smith - UTSA
KJ Jefferson - UCF
AJ Green - Okie State
Raheim Sanders - South Carolina
Dominique Johnson - TCU
Malik Hornsby - ArkSt

That's an epic level of turnover.

Yeah because that's a good analogy. A team that Arkansas doesn't hate that they've played at a neutral site - in Texas - every single year outside of three - two of which were in College Station.

We're talking about a home-and-home and playing them every season.

They were printing up Horns Down T shirts and caps before ou and aggy did.  And they never stopped making them even after we parted ways.  They hate us.  Go to a game in Fayetteville and tell me it isn't a rivalry game for them.  They will be more fired up than we will be and we better be ready for it.

This is correct.  I lived in Little Rock for a year.  It's not that the University of Arkansas hates Texas.  Ark is like a giant city/state.  The entire State hates Texas.  They have no other major schools/no professional teams.  They wear Razorback hats and gear to work the entire week,  they call the pigs in the middle of professional environments, they paint windows at most stores in town with anti-Horns graphics,  they throw major watching parties and close businesses early so people can travel to the game.  This is all in Little Rock which is 190 miles away from Fayetteville.   Let that sink in...They may suck, they may not,  but their players have gotten an earful about this game from the moment they stepped on campus.

LOL we are 16-4 in Fayetteville all time and that includes Sark's epic fucking faceplant there.

Sark's 2nd game total faceplant
Charlie Strong's only bowl at 6-6 he posted back to back 5-7 seasons after
2003 was a Mack Brown special (3rd & 33)
2000 was Applewhite's knee
1991 & 1988 were the dark ages we sucked back then no doubt

The game used to be played a bunch in Little Rock. We won like the first 15 meetings of the series until the 1930s.

Since WW2 ended Texas is 16-8 in Arkansas and 16-8 in Austin. There's a handful of neutral-site games in there as well. They are actually relatively better - if anything - at kicking our ass in Austin. You can compare it to Tech who in that same span won 11 in Lubbock and 7 in Austin (but took 51 combined Ls).

I'm not afraid of playing them every year but I don't think it's a particularly beneficial arrangement for Texas to reengage in.

Titboss' (arky coach) pre-game presser came up on my YT feed today so I watched it earlier..

He actually had the team watch '64, '69 and '91 games in an effort to get the team to give a shit about this "rivalry". It's not a question we have fans on both sides who cherish the memories, but to the players on both sides this is pretty much just a conference game.

The OU game isn't like that, and most of our players were old enough to remember aggy on T-day, and even if they don't there is the natural rivalry because the players know each other and many were recruited by both schools.

Here's my thought exercise to the olds of which I am quickly becoming myself:

aggy, pig, sooner...you can only choose two of those to play yearly, what are your choices?

D: All of them!

Some flukey 81-yard punt return TD by Ken Hatfield in '64 ain't going to make them give a shit.

'64 loss in Austin was as big a heartbreaker as the '62 win was an explosion of joy. It was a typically tight, tight game. We basically dominated, but just couldn't score. Arky hit that 80-yard punt return before halftime, 3rd was scoreless. We tied it at 7 early in 4th, they took the lead back about halfway, and we went on the same sort of long drive as we had in '62, like around 15 plays, and  scored with about a minute left.

Darrell never went for a tie at end-game, but the offense was confused about what to do, whether to kick or go for two, so was just standing around like they were waiting for the kicker. The TD had been scored by our super stud running back, Ernie Koy - at 6'3" and 235, he was bigger than some of the linemen. With the play clock running down, Darrell sent the backup RB, Hix Green, running onto the field to call timeout. I think coaches didn't get to call t-o back then, or maybe it was too far for coach to run down the sideline. We huddled up on the sideline and called the play for the two-pointer and the win: a pass over the middle to Ernie. Back to the field, but the ref stopped play and said, nope, the backup had subbed in by running out onto the field. Koy had to come out, and Hix - not a big guy - had to stay in. The pass was short, and Hix couldn't get back to it. Final score, 14-13.

I think that was also the year the fucking Arkies sold their band seats to boosters, and we allowed their band to stand on the sidelines on the west side near our bench. Annoying s hell.

By the way, if you haven't endured two or three hours of super high-volume literal screeching "WOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo PIG! Sooey!", then you probably don't get the extent of the hate. It's not a joke.

All that said, I expect us to win. I see it likely that we kick their ass... but I also won't be surprised if it turns into a brawl and a close one. How to characterize it? Here you go: if Vandy had this kind of hate for us, we would have lost that game by three touchdowns.

I would argue that Tech is a poor man's Arky...

A) Fayetteville is way more fun to visit than Lubbock
B) image.thumb.png.e17b9e0ef5fc4f531a0490647f031298.png

C) At no point did any games vs Tech, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Houston, Rice, etc get dubbed the game of the century and moved around by a POTUS.

My favorite arky game, was in LHB at the time, literally had whiskey bottles raining down on us after this play.  Was fun back then, Vic the Brick Jacobs came to one of our rehearsals and some band mates presented him with a roast pig on a platter, which he took back to the studio and had sitting next to him on his sportscast.  Fuck pig sooey phooey.

Your talking 1969 and I watched that game.  We went to the airport in Austin to celebrate the team's return!!! 🤘

Meh to Arky = Tech

Let's play other SEC teams instead. I would enjoy blOU every year and alternate aggy and arky every year.

1+8 rotation

My Dad did that once (went to the airport after a big win to cheer the team), and was so drunk he doesn't even remember how he got to the airport, nor did he even remember being there, but one day when I showed him a picture from a Cactus yearbook that had him front and center in the picture, behind a rope line, grinning ear-to-ear, did it all come back to him that he went there to cheer some more for the team.  Lulz.

Plus, a quarter of their students are Texas residents who hate us because they couldn't get into UT.
