Let's play other SEC teams instead. I would enjoy blOU every year and alternate aggy and arky every year.

1+8 rotation

That's not an option though. It's 1+7 (which is what we currently have and sucks) or 3+6.

Obviously OU is the primary rival, but to join this conference and NOT play A&M or Arkansas every year would be a fucking travesty.

They'll need to tweak some things in '26 so that we alternate A&M/Arkansas at home each year, but to not play you're top three historical rivals every season when you're in the same conference as all three for the first time since 1919 would be lunacy.

So if they go to 9 it's been reported/confirmed they would do a 3 + 6 model?

In that case - yes I'll take playing Arky every year if it gets us to the right # of conference games.

Meh, by joining we would have

1. ditched the B12, its officials, and its officers;

2. resumed more frequent games against the aforementioned teams;

3. begun to schedule games against Bama, Georgia, Florida, etc on the (semi-)regular;

4. secured a spot in a much more financially rewarding conference;

5. removed a massive recruiting disadvantage;

6. avoided ever having to play at Tech or Cougar High again

among other benefits. If the schedule collectively only had only one or the other of Arkansas or A&M, I think travesty might be a bit of a strong word. I like re-opening the rivalries in a general sense, but the Aggies are piss-poor rivals. They and hopeful future ones run their yaps incessantly with boasting when they win and pissing on Texas when A&M loses. They whine, cry, and generally spread their obnoxious idiocy much more loudly since we are back in conference with them. Winning doesn't shut them up the way it does fans I know of other schools we play. They're too aggy consciously to process their status.

My Dad did that once (went to the airport after a big win to cheer the team), and was so drunk he doesn't even remember how he got to the airport, nor did he even remember being there, but one day when I showed him a picture from a Cactus yearbook that had him front and center in the picture, behind a rope line, grinning ear-to-ear, did it all come back to him that he went there to cheer some more for the team.  Lulz.

For me,  Arky = Tech
I really don't want Texas scheduled to fuckin' play Arky every year.

Same. Every 4 years or (or however it would work out) is plenty.

Feels like if we get stuck with the same schedule we have this year and next we'll never get to play Ole Miss, SCar, Bama, LSU etc unless we meet them in the CCG, but that isn't the same as visiting their place or having them come to DKR.

3 + 6 means you'll get plenty of churn in the six other games

Isn't this set up so you play everyone in conference every 4 years, home and away?  Except OU of course, always neutral.

If the conference goes to 3+6 in 2026, we will have a rotation where we miss somebody twice because of the two years of playing 8 conference games.  But that's easily done for us, just don't bother worrying about Bama until 2028 and beyond since we did just play them home/away in 2022 and 2023.

Suppose we go to Pods. Your schedule is 3-2-2-2, 9 games as most of us desire. The seasons alternate the 2-2-2 in other pods, and the home-and-home is every other year. Don't have to call it Pods, just a template for scheduling. I only looked at us, maybe the view for all 16 teams gets nasty, but what we see here looks pretty good. Home-and-home is just alternating. In the example, NORTH looks pretty anemic - I was just trying to set up geographically.

Example:

WEST: Texas, aggy, OU, LSU

NORTH: Arky, Mizzou, Kentucky, USCe

SOUTH: Ole Miss, MissSt, Bama, Auburn

EAST: Fla, UGa, Tenn, Vandy

Season 1 we play aggy, OU, LSU, arky, mizzou, Ole Miss, Auburn, Tenn, Fla

Season 2 we play aggy, OU, LSU, Kentucky, USCe, Bama, MissSt, UGa, Vandy

Every two years, you play every other conference member.

Some Arkansas statistical rankings in the FBS (lower is worse)

#118 opponent yards per passing attempt

#110 in penalty yards per game

#107 opponent completion percentage

#98 in field position

#97 red zone scoring percentage

#93 turnover margin per game

This team loses at the margins and at defending the pass

**

What are they good at?

#39 on offensive 3rd down conversion rates, #7 in offensive rushing success rate, #13 in passing offensive success rate, and #38 in defensive yards per rushing attempt. So they move the ball really well on offense, and are solid against the run on defense, although they struggle to score once they get into the red zone

The Arkansas offense has quietly been really good this year at moving the ball, they just turn it over every other play and make self-inflicted mistakes. Dumb turnovers is what has kept Arkansas from being 7-2 right now and most likely in the top 25. They beat Tennessee because they actually took care of the ball and didn't turn it over a single time.

The secondary has gotten exposed against Dart and Nussmeier, really the only two decent QBs they've faced this year (with Nico being inconsistent as a freshman). Getting Jaylon Braxton back should help (who is Arkansas' best CB but has been out since week two) but there just aren't enough dudes who can cover 1:1 against SEC receivers and Travis Williams doesn't play much zone to help mitigate that since he likes to blitz so much.

Maybe they change my mind this weekend, but all year I've been hearing this and that about Àrkansas away, old rivals, throw out the spread..... I'm maybe in the minority but I don't really care about them. They were my dad's rivals and had a lot of 90s history in a conference I never knew. The first big game I remember watching was James Brown beating Nebraska. To me Arkansas is all stories and someone else's memories.

Can't imagine any of the undergrads or players give any more of a shit about hating us than any other school. They'll throw the horns down because that's what everybody does. Stomp their shit and move on. I don't want to rekindle a rivalry from 30+ years ago unless they're going to be contenders again. We already have a little brother that hates our ass.

You, like Steve Sarkisian, don't get it. The rivalry is (in)bred into kids born in Arkansas. They are taught to hate Texas from birth. It goes beyond a game on a field, so it is timeless to them.

Of course you don't get it because Texans don't look at the state of Arkansas as our rich superiors.

For sure.

I have told this story before, but it was probably on one of the old sites.

CHIEF Jr. was five, and we had our pit set up across the street from where the tennis courts were, in back of the General Services Commission. There was plenty of shit talking with the Arkies walking the sidewalks. After the game a couple of smokin' hot arkie coeds come walking by pretty late after everything had died down. Out of nowhere, CHIEF Jr. asks them if he could put a fork in their family trees. Our entire tailgate erupts with laughter, and he got a couple of "fuck you, little boy" from both of them. Apparently it really pissed them off, and they stewed all the way to their car. It was late enough that 17th was back open. All of a sudden an arkie colored BMW Z3, with the top down comes around the corner onto Trinity, sideways, and it was those two coeds. One of the girls pulls up her top and flashes two perfect breasts one painted white, and the other one red. She shouted, "how do you like that you little fuck?" He told her they were spectacular, and would she mind showing them to him again. They sped off and he got all kinda "high fives" from all of the guys that got to watch the show.

It was also the game where someone bought a whole suckling pig to put on the pit, complete with an apple. They left that fucker on the pit for probably 8-10 hours. When they cut it open, it was just like Clark carving the turkey  on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, I shit you not.

CHIEF

CHIEF Jr. is a Longhorn Legend if this story is real.

Is there going to be some surly or similar tailgate  for Texas fans?

I'm in the middle of an extended solo road trip and since I'm reasonably close to Fayetteville, I'm considering snagging a single and going.  But I'm not sure I want to be walking around there all alone in orange based on the stories I've heard.

They were printing up Horns Down T shirts and caps before ou and aggy did.  And they never stopped making them even after we parted ways.  They hate us.  Go to a game in Fayetteville and tell me it isn't a rivalry game for them.  They will be more fired up than we will be and we better be ready for it.

We bank millions off of the hatred of these poor souls buying Texas merch just so they can deface it.  Lulz.

I live and work in Virginia. I always pass this truck in the parking lot with a big Arky logo in the rear window and 3 little upside down Longhorn emblems underneath it. Not even the various aggy there have our flair on their vehicles.

I remember after my retirement ceremony last year driving from VA back to CA to start career 2. Going across 40 through Ark.  I had a couple folks flipping me off on the highway. I’m like wtf is wrong with these cock suckers.   Until I got gas and forgot I had a Longhorn sticker and Longhorn emblem on my truck.  I laughed.

cool story bro

I can tell I have trauma because of the events of the last dozen years, because I have an (irrational?) fear of the Arkie QB really hurting us with his legs. If this game doesn't go as planned, could one of you guys making the trip please get me an oversized bag of meth so I can cope with life next week? Thanks in advance. I'll be hanging around the Crown & Anchor Sunday, so you can drop it off to me there if you don't mind. I really appreciate this. Even if we do win, bring the meth. Tie? Meth.

Had to be after the 1969 team beat Arky in Fayettenam.

Mrs. Brat & I were probablythe only sober ones in that mob of 10,000 drunks thatswarmed all over old Mueller Airport to the bewilderment of the travelers in the waiting room.
Drunks filled the flight concourse and were on its roof, then swarmed out on the parking apron to surround the team plane when it arrived.
A few drunks supposedly had to be chased off the runway so the plane could land.
It was an epic evening to say the least.

Ark offense is strange. They are actually pretty good, outside of the fact they love to fire a few rounds into their foot a game. Only OU and Aubirn have turned the ball over more than Ark in the SEC. Texas has created the 2nd most turnovers in the SEC.

Ark defense pass defense is a mess.  8.3 yards per attempt (only UK is worse). 266.2 passign yards/ game worst in the SEC.

Not helped by the fact they struggle to get pressures.

When we were up there in 2021, I don’t remember talking to a single student that wasn’t from Texas.

the 412 turnpike started the DFW diaspora, then i-540 accelerated the accessibility of fayettenam

from 121/75 on the northeast corner of the metroplex (risking tickets) you can make pig stadium in 5 hours with 1 quick stop

Ticket prices are down to $55.00 out the door in some of the Texas sections. To damn far to drive for an 11:00 a.m. game. The market like Michigan's is telling us that everyone thinks we are winning this one easy.

Having been to the 2004 game in Fayetteville, I highly recommend making the trip if you can. To me, away games always feel like Texas versus the world, which makes for a great time. That experience is greatly amplified at Arkansas because they hate us so much. But it's a beautiful setting, and their stadium is nice. A win there and their redneck trash leaving dejected make for a perfect fall afternoon.

As crazy as it sounds, spending the night in Oklahoma is probably not a bad idea.
