? Ignoring the fact that we've played at Alabama and at Michigan and in the CFP, the following players were on the team when we played Arkansas in 2021:

  • Barron
  • Gbenda
  • Taaffe
  • Blackwell Jr.
  • Auburn
  • Broughton
  • Majors
  • Conner
  • Juan Davis
  • Helm
  • Sorrell
  • Collins

This.

A&M will be an environment that Texas players havent seen. I expect that to be one of the craziest environments CFB has seen in a while. 11 am kickoff at Ark doesnt really rival that.

Yes, that is the narrative, but it just isn't true. Go back and look at who was on the field at the end at the end of the 3rd qtr and early 4th qtr. 0, 7, 11, 16, 25, 26, 33, 45, 90, 91, 99 were on the field on FL's 1st drive in the 4th qtr and they were all starters or rotational starters that come in about the 3rd series of the game. Mitchell was the only real sub. Even on Fl's 2nd drive of the 4th qtr only a few subs came in like Smith, Filsame and Finckley. Most of Jackson's yardage was against the Texas starters or 1st, 2nd qtr rotational starters. Maybe the safeties were backed up in a prevent defense, but yardage gained against a bunch of subs just doesn't hold water.

Florida RBs average 4.8 in the first half, the exact same they averaged against Georgia. It wasn't until the second half with the subs in that their averaged crept up past 5. Florida is a good running team. That isn't an indictment on us.

Good lord, the betting line whining is annoying

I probably like sports betting about as little as one can, but I think talking about the line in the context of aggregated public sentiment about the matchup, as well as figuring out where the smart money is going, is a useful conversation.

Yup, hearing old stories from former players....that stadium is going to be the loudest environment they'll ever play in. Hearing Colt say his linemen couldn't hear him when he was right next to them at the line is wild.

I expect them to pound the rock and see if we can handle it.

i hope we learned from the first 3 drives by klanaggy - the bend-don't-break keep-everything-in-front-of-you defense is susceptible to a rock attack

this is a PK what do you do here game

there is such a thing as calling off the dogs on defense, and while not complicit, playing very base and vanilla against a flagship state school that was one of the reasons we joined this conference, when you are up 6 touchdowns after your opening drive of the 2nd half

Sorry but now you’re minimizing what it takes to win in Tuscaloosa against a very good Alabama team. Sure the crowd will be rowdier, but the team we’re playing is also much worse. The point is this team and coach are now seasoned to stressful conditions. This isn’t comparable to Sarks first trip there in any way.

We played an entire fucking season of jihad games last year.  Every single team we played at last year wanted a final lick at us because they despise us more than they like themselves - Baylor, TCU, UH, ISU.  Like you said, playing @ Alabama last year and @ Michigan this year are big time environments.

And a lot of this team was there in 2022 when we played at Tech and at OKST.

I'm not at all worried about the environment affecting us.

So we're worried about our run defense with a 40 point lead.  Ok.  Two or fewer turnovers and we win by double digits, bitches.

That and how we will handle a loud raucous environment.  God forbid we don't have experience in front of a crowd of 111,0000 people at 11am

Those 76k hillbillies will intimidate this poor team.

Agree but's even more than that. Our kids will be walking into an environment they have never seen before.

It's one thing to play against a large crowd like at Michigan but this is different. These pigs are born hating Texas. It's genetic.

Whether you're a 5 year old kid or an 85 year old grandma, they hate us to their core. It's something that

has to be experienced to be believed.

I am not ready to just accept this as fact in 2024 as long as 1/3 of the seats in the stadium are on Seat Geek for less than $70. At this rate the place wont even be full, so miss me with all that.

You’re missing the point. It’s not that it’s a big game. It’s that it’s a jihad game for Arkansas. That’s not anything like playing an Alabama team that has seen it all. This is a team that will be keenly focused on us and a fanbase that hates us with the passion of 1,000 suns.

Honestly, you just WANT it to be that way for sake of some lame ass nostalgia. Everyone your age sounds this way.

I am sure the DC for Ark is going to go with an extreme plan vs Texas that will be all or nothing for them. I would expect blitz heavy or a drop 8 type look. Their only chance is he hits a home run schematically.

This matches opinion of one of the hawg insiders that I watched earlier this week.

He said watch how aggressive the hawgs defensive calls were against Tennessee.  Stunting, blitzing, and better disguising of coverages.   Early in this game hawgs want to hit Ewers multiple times and get their crowd going crazy.

I mean some of those Texas teams were really shitty though.  If we are going apples to oranges this team is more talented than 2008 and Arkansas is kinda bad this year.  But, that’s why they play the games.

Uh yeah our 2 most recent losses featured Shawn Watson offense and then Hudson Card. Outside of 2008, the rest are 2 decades old

2004 just barely won miraculously when their QB inexplicably fumbled the ball. 2000 and 2003 were not shitty teams.

Sure 2014 and 2021 were shitty but even by those teams shitty standards those Arky games were bad beat downs. And 2014 Arkansas weren't exactly world beaters.

Yeah well, that is what I heard two decades ago: 1991 was a long time ago! This isn't really a rivalry anymore!

We'll see.

Odd. Tenn game Ark gave them the running game. Tenn starter had like 150 yards rushing (too lazy to look up) and Nico had probably the same passing. They ran a lot of dime if my memory serves me well. Destroyed the Tenn passing game. That is not a bad plan vs Texas. If you play Texas there are 2 things to try. Either you hit Ewers and try to rattle him or dare Sark to win the game running the football.

Nah, he was hit from behind by a trailing DT after evading the rush, scrambling back through the middle and that's when he was tackled.  From memory he had the ball in his hand and not against his body but he forced that fumble.  This wasn't a Matt Nordgren deal.

Well fair enough. It was 20 years ago, but it seemed like he didn't have the ball secured at all and the DT didn't strip him. He just dropped it when he was hit.

In any case the 2004 team was very fortunate to win that game.

I attended the 1991 Texas Arkansas game, four years after the 1987 Tony Jones win.

At pregame, the announcer said "There are some kids in the end zone that have a message for everyone in Arkansas, so please pay attention."
Each end zone had a line of kids and there was a teacher passing out letters to each kid.

The announcer said "OK kids, on the count of three, show us your message!".

The kids turned around and held up their letters, which read:

  ! D U O R P D N A E E R F G U R D

The announcer said "That's right!  These kids are drug free and proud".  The woman behind me said "I'm sure about the kids, not so sure about the teachers"

I am thinking something like 28/31 Texas to 14-17 Arkansas in that range.

I just think it is funny that every time we have played Arkansas since 1991 us old timers try to explain how Arkansas is nuts and they hate our guts and their team is going to be ready to destroy us...and then we are told "oh it will be fine." And then this shit happens:

...

Be ready, Arkansas hates our guts. This is just like the OU game. We better not come out hoping to survive the surge or whatever Mack said.

I would rep this 100 times, if I could.

I'm guessing summa y'all have never in your sweet life had some motherfucker six inches shorter and fifty pounds lighter than you launch himself at you, land half a dozen punches before you could even react, and found yourself on your ass in the dirt with blood running down your face and half your bottom lip hanging on your chin.

It's happened to me, and I ain't ashamed. I learned. That message from Valmy makes me think it mighta happened to him, and he learned.

I'm just sayin', it might not happen this time, but if it does, don't be surprised, and be ready to get back up and kick that little fucker's ass.

Well, 2000 we got buttfucked by OU.

2003 was a good team, but Arkansas was also a good team that year.

2004 Arkansas still had Matt Jones too and it was early in the season.

I am not saying it won't be loud but it is ~76k people and an 11am start.

Alabama (at night) ~101k

Michigan (11am start) ~107k

A&M in all likelihood a night game (~102k) will be much louder

Arky will be louder than Ok State & Tech due to being larger, but I will be shocked if louder than Bama night game last year.

I am not worried about Texas being able to handle crowd noise etc for this game. I think the game time here broke in Texas' favor. For me the real test of being able to take a crowd out of a game will be aggy.

Unless I'm mistaken or there was a one off, they've also never had to play that game in Fayetteville. They always played in sterile ass Jerryworld. Let's see what their record against Arkansas looks like going forward when they have to travel into that snake pit every other year. Almost every one of those Jerryworld games came down to the fourth quarter, too. A&M has owned the scoreboard, but they have been far from dominant on the field against them.

But I want the game every year regardless. OU, A&M and Arkansas every year plus 6 other SEC games is the way. Aside from the great big gobs of cash, it was the main reason jumping to the SEC made sense. Texas is the only school I can think of that actually gained its historical rivals in realignment. Rivalries are what makes college football great.

Ou.  aggy and pig every year is the way. I give two shits about anyone else in the secsecsec and they can all rot in their incest ridden south.  I really detest being in the SEc sec sec but if it gives us aggy and pig with ou I’m ok with it I suppose.

Two things... we played Arkansas on 1/1/2000 and that season we blew OU out the reason we lost was Opie's knee got shredded and we didn't have a viable backup.

2003 DID get buttfucked by OU but the biggest reason we lost and was a harbinger of the day overall was giving up 3rd and 33.
